WIBU to mark them up in red and ask the teacher to see me after school?

I thought that cathy - surely we say Maths not Math, so is it not just 'Maths sheets' in the same way we would say 'Literacy sheets' or 'Science sheets'?

I wonder if mikeyjohn has seen the irony of their multiple exclaimation marks?

ScramblyEgg · 14/09/2012 22:08

One of our local primary schools has a notice on their website about open days for 'perspective parents'. Smile

Cathycomehome · 14/09/2012 22:11

The math's sheets what? Grin

I wouldn't usually pick up mistakes on a website, as it's not a formal written thing, but if you're criticising others' terrible grammar....

Dawndonna · 14/09/2012 22:15

Badgercub Yes, the welfare of the children is important. So is spelling and grammar. Sorry, but it doesn't take two minutes to proofread a document and in many cases I'm sure a willing member of the governing body would help.

saltnpepashere · 14/09/2012 22:17

Yes cathy there is no need for the apostrophe at all! Hilarious given the utter self righteousness of that post!

Boney - mikeyjohn is probably far too busy posting other people's mistakes on facebook and taking the piss with all the other perfect parents to notice the utterly shit punctuation in her own post.

am finding myself checking my grammar even more carefully than usual

Badgercub · 14/09/2012 22:20

"Sorry, but it doesn't take two minutes to proofread a document "

Sorry but our documents take longer to proofread than that and I physically don't have the time in my 5 minute break before my deadline to proofread the document, email it to the office, sort out autistic child having a meltdown and prepare the lesson that will take place in five minutes' time...

Something's got to go. In that circumstance it will always be the proofreading.

apostropheuse · 14/09/2012 22:24

The wrong use of apostrophes drives me insane - to the point of shouting at the TV when I spot them. It's just so irritating. (You could probably guess that because of my username here).

I also hate it when I see sentences beginning with "and" or "but". I was taught in primary school that was a big no no!

Don't even start me on should of or would of!

alcofrolic · 14/09/2012 22:26

An e-mail to the HT to point out that there were errors - maybe.

But marking the Parent Information Sheet with a red pen? That's taking the piss.

NellyJob · 14/09/2012 22:30

It would be funny though.

alcofrolic · 14/09/2012 22:31

To whom?

NellyJob · 14/09/2012 22:38

well not you of course...bit sensitive alkifrolic?

alcofrolic · 14/09/2012 22:40

Not at all. Just think it's a bit childish and trying to get one over the teacher.

NellyJob · 14/09/2012 22:43

yes well nothing gets me in touch with my inner teenager like a patronising senco Grin

Helpyourself · 14/09/2012 23:03

Strictly speaking you could argue that math's is correct as the apostrophe is representing the missing letters as in we'll where the ' shows there were letters there.
Our local buses urge parents to practice their child's new school route with them. Advert from the education authority. Hmm

Cathycomehome · 14/09/2012 23:20

Strictly speaking, surely it should be 'buses...

Grin
NellyJob · 14/09/2012 23:21

and 'fridge's

Cathycomehome · 14/09/2012 23:22

And 'phones...

Cathycomehome · 14/09/2012 23:24

But not 'fridge's! Shock unless it's the 'fridge's friend, for example...

NellyJob · 14/09/2012 23:27

ah but if the apostrophe indicates missing letters then you would need one at each end for 'fridge', wouldn't you?? Grin

zipzap · 14/09/2012 23:29

Argghhh Blush

and I knew it should be maths not math's - no idea what came over me there, other than I was thinking 'I must not make a mistake in this post' which was probably dooming me to do just that! Next time I must remember to read it through before posting, especially having been interrupted by ds and dh a couple of times.

And in my defence, I did say that the odd mistake or typo would creep in - it was just to make sure that you were all reading my post carefully Grin

Cathycomehome · 14/09/2012 23:29

Mais oui.

But hen it should be 'frigs' really, which just looks rudeGrin

Cathycomehome · 14/09/2012 23:30

Then. Then. Not hen.

NellyJob · 14/09/2012 23:30

Grin it certainly does hen (real LOL)

Cathycomehome · 14/09/2012 23:33
