To think that no-one in their right minds would pay £2.56 for a pack of wipes?

Ok, so I knew I needed some baby wipes and popped into my local supermarket on the way home. I don't usually use this shop for these types of essentials as they are over-priced. But, I needed wipes and thought that I would just get the cheapest ones I could find. However, they had a buy one get two free on huggies wipes, which worked out nicely.

What I am asking is does anyone really buy a single pack of 64 wipes for £2.56?

Or 1.99 for a tube of Pringles...

JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 12/09/2012 21:33

no, they price them up for offers - you think you are getting a deal

SizzleSazz · 12/09/2012 21:34

Nope. 51p in Sainsbo's.

MySpanielHell · 12/09/2012 21:35

I am convinced wipes are cheaper than they were 15 years ago.

CoolaSchmoola · 12/09/2012 21:36

I have when I've been desperate!

Mind you I live in British Forces Germany - and our NAAFI charges over £3 for a pack of 64 Pampers wipes. Needless to say I don't buy them unless it's Sunday (tis the only shop open) and my stockpile has run out before my online order has come in. So, perhaps twice in a year!

MamaGeekChic · 12/09/2012 21:36

I wouldn't, we use the morrisons value ones at 40-odd pence

ExcitedElectrons · 12/09/2012 21:39

Was it the co-op?

skylarsmammy · 12/09/2012 21:40

I buy the 12 pack box of Huggies for 9 quid from Amazon and have it set up so it gets sent automatically every 8 weeks. Great deal. Nearly 3 quid for a pack of wipes! No chance.

FredFredGeorge · 12/09/2012 21:40

skylarsmammy 2.49 for pringles these days...

And no, no-one -well only the mad- really pays those prices for wipes, or pringles or any of the other products which are sold this way. The supermarkets know it, but the brand owners just don't want their product to be seen as low value, so you get the silly deals instead - so the perception is different.

Only if I am desperate. We paid a FIVER on holiday at the hotel shop once - I nearly had a melt down when I found the spare pack in the back of the suitcase, after DH said there were none left and he'd looked there

onebigwish · 12/09/2012 21:45

Those huggies wipes have been on offer since at least the summer of 2010 when my DD2 was born.

They're bloody good wipes though, really stiff and thick so you can avoid that accidentally-wiping-your-fingers-in-poo thing you get with thinner wipes.

Sirzy · 12/09/2012 21:45

Nope, I only use huggies wipes with DS but refuse to pay more than £1 a pack and normally manage to get them a fair bit cheaper (I love costco when they have offers on wipes!)

He is potty trained now but they are so useful I still buy them!

AmberLeaf · 12/09/2012 21:46

MySpanielHell yes they were!

Im still amazed at the current price of wipes [even the johnsons pink ones!]

When mine were babies nice wipes were around £3 a pack.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 12/09/2012 21:47

Nope, wait for the Asda baby event. Got boxes of 12 Pampers for £7 and right at the end they knocked them down to £3 a box. Stocked up last year in prep for DD2's arrival and greeted her with 98 packets of wipes. She's 8 months and I've not bought another pack yet and loads left.

skylarsmammy · 12/09/2012 21:48

I haven't had a baby in nappies for over 5 years and I still can't imagine a life without baby wipes in the house. I use them for everything. The teen dds use more now than I needed for them as babies!

5madthings · 12/09/2012 21:48

nope we only ever use the tesco sensitive wipes and buy them in a multi pack or else when they are on offer. never pay more than a £1ish for a pack of wipes!

boredandrestless · 12/09/2012 21:49

I only use huggies too, but I buy the boxes of 12 packs, usually £8 or £9 a box. I do like huggies over the other brands but wouldn't pay full price for them.

thepeoplesprincess · 12/09/2012 21:50

Your OP could apply to most toiletries tho. Can't remember the last time I paid full price for shampoo/shower gel/toothpaste/yadda yadda.

McHappyPants2012 · 12/09/2012 21:51

i will only use huggies wipes, so yes i would pay it.

CreepyWeeBrackets · 12/09/2012 21:53

I'm always amazed how cheap they are these days. £2.99 for a packet of Johnsons from the local shops when DD (12) was a baby Shock and I couldn't get to a supermarket to receive any BOGOF or multi-buy offers. There were slightly cheaper ones but they were awful.

WelshMaenad · 12/09/2012 21:54

I wouldn't pay a quid for them, they're crap, and make my baby's bum sore.

99p for a clip lid Tupperware box, old towel chopped into squares and overlocked - free. Solution of olive oil, chamomile tea and honey - pence. Soft non rashy baby bum - priceless.

jamboncru · 12/09/2012 21:57

Well I only used the Johnson's ones (aloe vera and all that nonsense) on my wee girl's bum for months as I had loads and loads that I'd bought on offer before she was born. When they ran out I switched to the cheapo supermarket ones (well if they were good enough for her brother's bum....). She promptly got horrendous nappy rash. Baaaaad mummy.
Cue me trying every other wipe that was on special offer....only to have to go back to the posho ones and hey presto the nappy rash was cured! I have tried many times to switch wipes but they are the only ones she seems to tolerate. She must have a vey snobby bottom.

So yes I would (and do) pay £2.56 for a pack of wipes Blush

ThoughtsPlease · 12/09/2012 22:00

Welsh.....but then you wash them?!

CoolaSchmoola · 12/09/2012 22:14

jambobcru check Amazon for offers, and also Boots online. I only use Johnsons unless I run out and German shops are shut so have to buy obscene prices for Pampers ones that I don't like and they are regularly on offer at less than half price Smile.
