To think that no-one in their right minds would pay £2.56 for a pack of wipes?

Ok, so I knew I needed some baby wipes and popped into my local supermarket on the way home. I don't usually use this shop for these types of essentials as they are over-priced. But, I needed wipes and thought that I would just get the cheapest ones I could find. However, they had a buy one get two free on huggies wipes, which worked out nicely.

What I am asking is does anyone really buy a single pack of 64 wipes for £2.56?

thoughts can't speak for welsh but I use reuseable wipes too, yeah I wash then with the nappies. They are so much better for getting them clean IMO.

WelshMaenad · 12/09/2012 22:18

well, obviously. It would be a bit gross to just let them dry and reuse them, wouldn't it? I chuck them in with the nappies so no additional washing costs.

Welsh my DS has NEVER had a nappy rash This year is his 14th year in nappies.SN child.

Huggies are weak. Pampets are 8 packs for £8 in Boots atm

My rule is, never pay more than a quid for a pack of wipes and I never have. I usually buy in bulk from tesco or boots when they are on special offer

finduspancakes · 12/09/2012 22:27

I use cotton wool and water and only use wipes when we're out.

jamboncru · 12/09/2012 22:29

Thanks coola I will check it out! Horrified at her snobby bum, it only has to sniff an Asda's own brand wipe and it erupts in a rashy mess

NameGotLostInCyberspace · 12/09/2012 22:32

Best bargain I ever had was on wipes at ASDA. 2.50 for 6 packs of Pampers Sensitive wipes. I bought 20 pounds worth. Would only pay FULL price in an emergency.

MrsKeithRichards · 12/09/2012 22:56

3 quid fleece blanket cut into squares jobs a good un!

TraineeBabyCatcher · 12/09/2012 23:06

When DS was first born i paid that price, but then not long after asda opened near us and they had a baby show and since then i vowed i would never buy wipes for more than £1 a pack, or (pampers) nappies for more than 10p a nappy. You do have to be savvy sometimes though and have room to stock up.

2MumsAreBetterThan1 · 12/09/2012 23:15

I use cut up old towels in a tub of water, baby wash and baby lotion. Lovely soft clean bum, no cost and no running out and having to do emergency shop run.

CaliforniaLeaving · 13/09/2012 03:45

I'm with Welsh, I had a plastic tub and filled it with clean cloths and added my own mixture, then threw them in the wash with the reusable nappies.
Dd had horrible nappy rash frequently until we went to reusable nappies and wipes.
Its such as waste of resources all this disposable stuff anyway, wipes for every occasions, disinfecting, bathroom, kitchen, pledge already on a throw away cloth.
I bought two dozen washable cloths in the car section of the supermarket that were on clearance and use them for all the household cleaning, and throw in the wash.

Normal price for a branded single pack here in the Netherlands. It's cheaper for me to get amazon to send them over.

Pitmountainpony · 13/09/2012 05:53

Yep make my own wipes here with bay flannels and just use the other wipes for the daily poo but love using and washing them.....started to feel bad about all the waste noise produce so mixing disposables with cloth now and strangely finding it satisfying....not the poo ones so much but soaking up pee with cloth...feels right and yes we get less rash with cloth.

jamboncru · 13/09/2012 11:07

That's really interesting about making up your own solution- cant believe i never thought of it before- will try it this weekend! Thanks

EverlongYouAreGoldAndOrange · 13/09/2012 11:17

Yes I suppose I would if I had too. Not that I need wipes that often now as dc are older but I do have a packet in the car for emergencies.

Fakebook · 13/09/2012 12:00

£5 for 6 pampers wipes in ASDA. Or £4.98 from Tesco. I bulk buy.

Mrsjay · 13/09/2012 12:06

I am convinced wipes are cheaper than they were 15 years ago.

me too wipes seem so throwaway these days I know your meant to throw them away Grin but when my DDs were small i used to just use wipes for outside and wouldn't use half a dozen to wipe a dirty face like I see some mums doing, I am sure they used to be more expensive back then in the dark ages

MissBetseyTrotwood · 13/09/2012 12:11

I think I used less of the pricier ones. Some of the more expensive ones were thicker and you could fold them over to do more wiping whereas the cheaper ones were drier and thinner and I could only get one wipe out of them. Still expensive at over 2 quid tho.

SIL uses these ones that are just water - I never get that. Surely just soaking some kitchen roll or cotton wool and putting it in a plastic bag would do the trick? Just convenience I spose.

hazchem · 13/09/2012 12:13

I think wipes (and disposable nappies) are cheaper then they used to be.

We use washable wipes (old towels/PJ's/Tshirts) with plain water at home. Just have a pack of wipes for out and about. I still try to bulk buy them when on offer.

Mrsjay · 13/09/2012 12:14

I used to buy them when they were on offer and hide them so I wouldn't be tempted to use them all up , maybe i was just stingy

Pitmountainpony · 14/09/2012 01:56

Add tea tree oil and lavender to some water and just let tiny flannel pieces soak it up then transfer to other plastic container.

JeanHarlot · 14/09/2012 04:28

Here in Aus, a tub of 80 Huggies wipes are about $7 (about 4 and a half quid). The Coles supermarket brand is about $3 for 80. I'm glad mine are out of nappies now :D
