But

AIBU to think Boris Johnson is bloody excellent! I find him hilarious and think every city needs a Boris?

Vagaceratops · 10/09/2012 16:52

I think people voted for him as the lesser of two ills.

Those who say that they dont care what his politics are - you should. He is much more to the left than DC and if at some point he doesnt run for leader of the Tory party I will eat my own arm. (Thank goodness he has committed himself to London for the whole term of mayorship).

Vagaceratops · 10/09/2012 16:53

Much more to the right

I need sleep :(

corlan · 10/09/2012 16:53

The title tells you a lot about how Boris is seen by many people - almost more of an entertainer than a politician..........

and that's what makes him so dangerous.

sinpan · 10/09/2012 16:53

IMO Boris Johnson is not a fool but a very astute political operator who has realised how far the power of personal branding can take him. The fact that people can say they love him and at the same time say it's not about politics - at a time when respect for politicians has never been lower - is an indication on the success of Brand Boris.

Personally I'm not impressed with the buffoonery or the misogynistic comments but I recognise he's very good at Being Boris. I wouldn't vote for him in a million years but I can see why people like him.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 10/09/2012 16:56

SUCH an astute opinion, sinpan, totally agree. i love him but absolutely detest everything he stands for. that's quite an achievement on his part.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 10/09/2012 16:56

The bumbling bollocks is all deliberate and utterly disingenuous.

He's not terribly nice by all acounts; I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

squoosh · 10/09/2012 16:57

The only thing I like about him is that he makes David Cameron very nervous.

MrsReiver · 10/09/2012 16:59

I despair at how easily Boris has sucked the public into believing his lovable buffoon act.

The prospect that he may one day be our PM is, quite frankly, terrifying.

Nancy66 · 10/09/2012 17:01

I don't think the bumbling buffoon thing is an act. He's always been like that. His dad is like that and so is his sister.

SamuelWestsMistress · 10/09/2012 17:01

Sigh

I don't care about his political standing. Really I couldn't give a fuck. I find him as an individual in the media entertaining. Please understand I'm not interested in the politics.

His sister is the editor of The Lady magazine. I rolled my eyes big style at her contribution to this article

Bossybritches22 · 10/09/2012 17:04

It takes a very clever man to look that stupid & still be where he is today.

Forgetting his politics for a moment he gave a rousing speech that lightened the proceedings & rounded it all off. He also took time to talk to some of the athletes & pose for pictures so good for him

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 10/09/2012 17:06

but his proffession is not in "media entertainment" and to like someone surely you should be considering all aspects of that person and what they stand for.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 10/09/2012 17:06

But he's a politician! Confused

LadyBeagleEyes · 10/09/2012 17:06

Well, I'm just grateful he's only Mayor of London, so nothing he does affects me.
It would if he was PM.
If the Scottish Independence referendum came while he was PM, I think there would be a resounding yes for going it alone.

MrsKeithRichards · 10/09/2012 17:06

He's an embarrassment!

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 10/09/2012 17:07

I find franky boyle quite funny sometimes and can see likable aspects of his persona. But I could never truely like the guy due to what he stands for and what he does.

sinpan · 10/09/2012 17:07

SamuelWestsMistress, would you/have you voted for him because you find him entertaining? I'm really interested to know.

WhatYouLookingAt · 10/09/2012 17:09

I'm not interested in a politicians politics.....thats pretty inane.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 10/09/2012 17:11

YABU.

LadyBeagleEyes · 10/09/2012 17:12

All the people who say they like him because he's entertaining, not because of his politics, would you vote for him for that reason?
Because that would be seriously worrying.

CelticParalympian · 10/09/2012 17:13

He's a cock. I hate his politics and he sounds like a complete arsehole, cheating on his wife, treating his staff like crap etc. I hate the way people go 'haha Boris! LOLZ!' and then vote for himbecause they think he's funny. It's idiotic.

SamuelWestsMistress · 10/09/2012 17:15

Well apart from the fact I don't live in London then no! I don't know who else was running against him.

Anyway I'm not saying I love Nazis, or boiling kittens in chip pans, or punching old ladies in the face, I'm just saying as a human on earth which the good Lord hath created by the hands of love for us all in the memory of the little baby Jesus that he is an entertaining individual and I think he's rather funny!

OP posts:
ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 10/09/2012 17:16

He's not a buffoon at all. He is extraordinarily clever. He presents himself as an eccentric buffoon and does it extremely well.

Meanwhile he could take the food out of babies' mouths, and people would still be laughing at his harmless buffoonery.

Growlithe · 10/09/2012 17:17

Just having stupid hair and an ability to act like a bumbling idiot does not make a person 'charming'.
