To be annoyed that taxi ranks don't let families in first.

More like a rant really, sorry if it was covered before.

When we came back from holiday with the Eurostar, we went to the taxi rank. I had DC3 on the sling on my front (4 months), a backpack on my back and the babybag on the side, while holding the hands of DC1 and 2 (aged 2 and 4). DH had 2 large suitcases, a backpack and bag. I told DH we will go to the front immediately because priority is given to families and seriously with all our baggage you could tell we were not taking the piss.

When we got there, there were the paralympic guides helping people get into the taxis, when she turned to us and asked : 'Oh sorry, who came first'. There were these Carrie Bradshaw-like fashionistas to go in front of us. I told the guide that we just came in, but usually families with babies usually go first. She told me she never heard of that, and that unless we were disabled or something..........
Then one of the fashionistas took a look at all our baggage and said it's fine we can go, at which her friend said : 'Oh no, are you sure?'. Eventually we were let in, but I could not help but say to my husband, one of the fashionistas look great on the outside, but just cold on the inside. What kind of inconsiderate society have we become?

In France, there are signs all over main taxi ranks, that you let the pregnant, disabled, families with babies and tots, etc. go in before. We even naturally get called to the front by the usher as we arrive.
I realised that people in london are less keen, one day we did that, and some guy rushed to the taxi to go in front of us, and the taxi driver turned him away and told him : 'don't you see those people need more help?'.

Even before I was pregnant and had kids, I always left the lift, seats etc. to the mums and elders, so all this behaviour surprises me.

Totally legal Sirzy. And very enterprising.

Dog in a buggy = 5 points for comedy value.

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 10/09/2012 14:04

I am considering the dog thing, but wouldn't a dog in a handbag score more than a dog in a buggy as it's another thing hanging out of you?

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 10/09/2012 14:04

Bugger no points for me.....waah waah!!!

How about having the period from hell?? I need to jump the queue, get home quick and empty my mooncup?? Got to be worth 50 points surely Hmm

LadyBeagleEyes · 10/09/2012 14:05

I love Op's first sentence.
"More like a rant really, sorry if it's been covered before".
Um...nope, I've never seen that sort of entitlement covered before here.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 10/09/2012 14:05

Oh! I've thought of something. I have a slight curvature of the spine. Do I get to push in? Also, when I take the cat to the vet's in her travel basket, do I get to push in as well?

coolerking · 10/09/2012 14:05

Betty, no points for that, but you can queue jump for the toilets if that is any help?

Sirzy · 10/09/2012 14:06

The one who finds it hard to wait is you it seems little turtle!

Chubfuddler · 10/09/2012 14:06

What do I do about disability seats? Well I don't sit in them. And I mind my own bloody business other than that.

What do you do? Police them?

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 10/09/2012 14:06

"But tell me, when has it ever been so many that needed help that it's just hard for you to wait for? "

WHAT HELP?

I give seats in moving vehicles to people less able to stand, I let desperate for a wee people ahead of me in toilets (even if not pregnant/2 years old/old) but I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW ABLE BODIED PEOPLE NEED HELP TO NOT STAND FOR A FEW MINS AT A TAXI RANK?????

MadBusLady · 10/09/2012 14:06

OP, if we're not engaging with you it's because you're not listening to a bloody word we're saying, are you? Someone's already pointed out that the bus is totally different.

Chubfuddler · 10/09/2012 14:07

What is a rock bank wanabee??

DolomitesDonkey · 10/09/2012 14:07

Ariel I don't know what you're complaining about, you'd be in the disability queue due to your red hair.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 10/09/2012 14:07

Spoilsport :)

Oh well, nil points for me then.....I'll just do what everyone else does and wait in the queue for my turn!

Sirzy · 10/09/2012 14:07

Betty I dread to think how you would prove that one!

missymoomoomee · 10/09/2012 14:07

Woop woop I get 41 points in summer and 36 in the winter now, thats got to get me pretty far. (Thank goodness I didn't go on that diet, points for being overweight = genius idea)

maillotjaune · 10/09/2012 14:07

I've spent plenty of time in France, sometimes while pregnant with 2 children, and haven't noticed any special rules treating my family with special care. DH is French so it's not like we haven't noticed due to not understanding people / signs.

Most people are polite and helpful but not to the ridiculous extent of no one else getting to the front of queues because they are constantly stepping aside for families. Much the same as I find at home in London.

TwinkleReturns · 10/09/2012 14:08

How many points would frozen shopping get? I think 2 tubs of ice-cream and some fish fingers calls for a bit of queue jumping surely? what if Ive left the washing machine on and need to get home to empty it?

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 10/09/2012 14:08

OP there's lots of people I would let ahead of me in a taxi que, someone obviously upset whose just got bad news and may be on the way to A&E to be with their loved one

people who are alone at night particularly if there are rougher looking groups about

but why me? why should I go first? you still havent answered what help I need and how I am less able to stand on solid ground for a few mins?

LadyBeagleEyes · 10/09/2012 14:08

But you didn't need help Op.
You were two adults with three children.
Why can't you see that this is not an excuse to queue jump?

Lolwhut · 10/09/2012 14:09

YAB very U
Ok if you were disabled, pregnant or very old but not just because you had DC with you. I have travelled a lot with my DC's and have never seen this happen.
I could imagine the fashionistas feet would be killing them as there were probably wearing very unsuitable shoes and they probably needed a sit down more than you Grin

really sorry didn't read all the threads, hangs lazy head in shame

ChestyNut · 10/09/2012 14:09

A point for every half stone over weight you are, you say?

Sirzy · 10/09/2012 14:09

Good point twinkle, and surely if it has started to rain and you have washing out you should be able to go straight to the front?

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 10/09/2012 14:09

Oh I forgot about that Donkey. Yes, I will be in the ginger queue. Thanks.

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 10/09/2012 14:10

what about fresh fish/prawns on a warm day?

what if you're with your mother in law, that should get some serious points!
