Inspired by another thread in chat, what does middle class mean to you?

I seriously don't know. Aibu?

Is Mellow Birds still around?!

My dear mother used to make me drink that revolting sensationally bland stuff when I was younger until I introduced her to the wonder that is Douwe Egberts Grin

ninah · 09/09/2012 00:23

I don't know Grin I'm glad you remember it, it was really not at all like coffee, was it?

I think MC can mean patronising, too concerned about social class. Marriedinwhite mentioned her MIL being rude about her hairdresser - stuff like that.

marriedinwhite · 09/09/2012 00:25

We call it the "bog" is that contrived compared to "shitter" do you think? Grin

ninah · 09/09/2012 00:26

no room for a pony then Sad

TheLastRavenhope · 09/09/2012 00:27

I can honestly say, given the choice between death by firing squad or a jar of Mellow Birds, I'd tie the blindfold myself.

It had a weird sort of nutty taste to it that wasn't quite right and that only appeared after taking a mouthful Hmm

NellyJob · 09/09/2012 00:28

not sure marriedinwhite - what about 'shi''ouse'? we like that one too.

marriedinwhite · 09/09/2012 00:28

Rarely in London ninah - except in the shitter or the bog Smile

NellyJob · 09/09/2012 00:29

lol this thread is making me giggle for real.

FreudiansGoldSlipper · 09/09/2012 00:29

i was very disappointed when i had begged my nanny to buy a jar of mellow birds and there was no smily face when i open it :(

ninah · 09/09/2012 00:30

yes, v suspicious, I wonder if it was chicory based?
i'd drink it rather than die though. I must have a wc palette
sponge finger?

TheLastRavenhope · 09/09/2012 00:31

Oh, I'd forgotten the smiley face!

Slaps self. Reminds self to behave. Must stumble up to bed soon.

TheLastRavenhope · 09/09/2012 00:33

Why, thank you ninah. Would you like a nice Tesco's Own freshly made Bakewell Tart? [Wink]

ninah · 09/09/2012 00:33

I meant on kim's estate
not in your shitter. Do you have paperbacks in the shitter? copies of QC? or piped music?

wipes arse with Sun and belches

marriedinwhite · 09/09/2012 00:35

Oh papers. DH reads the FT and I read the Torygraph on-line. We do not, however, iron the newspapers but I have been known to iron and roll wrapping paper Blush

TheLastRavenhope · 09/09/2012 00:35

I read the Daily Mail for giggles and when I feel the need for a good frothing session Grin

The rest of the time it's The Guardian :)

WAD · 09/09/2012 00:36

Papers - that's an interesting thought.

In our town, so few people read nowadays (I mean are seen reading, I assume they can read) that the sight of anyone settling down to read even a tabloid would be impressive. Grin
