At Getting Fed Up at Being Constantly Told I'm Past It?

I'm 37. In the past few weeks, I've been reminded, variously, that I'm getting on a bit, I'm no longer young, I will be slowing down, I won't be able to do the things I used to, theres no point in me going to the gym because I'm not going to make the Olympics at my age, I should give up doing up my older house and buy a new build, because at my age, I don't want to be doing stuff like that, I'm too old to have children now at my age (not that I expressed a desire to), it was just suddenly mentioned out of the blue in a conversation. And so on.

I don't feel any different at all!

That's crazy. I'm 38 and I've barely got going.

Also, how weird to say there's no point going to the gym since you won't make the Olympics now. Do they sit around not bothering to read books because they're not going to appear on Late Review?

I'm 42 and have just been awarded my MA and have spent three weeks in China. My friend is also 42, she took up running after having her lovely twins and has just done her first race for life in support of cancer research. I don't think real life is at all like the 'at your age' cliches, and you should try whatever you want to :) I would be tempted to tell them I'm about to join the circus or take up regular bungee jumping

I had braces put on my teeth when I was 42. A friend said "Aren't you a little old for that"? "No" I responded. I didn't tell him I was also pregnant but only because I hadn't told anybody at that stage Grin

My retired sister is off to university next month.

I'd be very fed up if I was hearing it constantly. YANBU.
