To ask how the hell I weigh less than I did before getting pregnant with my first child...

ImABIGgirl · 04/09/2012 08:15

I had my second DC early this year, and even though I apparently am lighter than pre pregnancy, I still can't get into my size 10 trousers/jeans, or my size 12 tops/cardigans. I'm size 12-14 for trousers and size 14-16 for tops now.

So please tell me how the bloody hell I weigh 48kg, when I weighed 55kg BEFORE EVER getting pregnant?!

I can't see where I've lost weight. Since having DC2, I have fat rolls on the back of my waist, my upper arms have become so chubby that the arms of some clothes get stuck. I have the inevitable mother jelly belly. My breasts are MASSIVE thanks to breastfeeding. So how the hell am I 48kg?

I never weigh myself normally, because I feel health isn't defined by weight, but DH weighed himself at Boots so I thought I'd do it too, and now I'm wishing I hadn't. Weighing yourself is a serious headfuck.

There is no way you are 48 kilos. That is an error.

I am a size 8 and am 169cms and weigh between 56-58 kilos. And I am quite slim, although muscular. If you weight 48 kilos then you must be the size of Sarah Jessica Parker!!

NurseBernard · 04/09/2012 09:34

I was going to assume you're three feet tall, but if that's not the case, then time to re-weigh.

suburbandweller · 04/09/2012 09:56

Am afraid I agree - your scales are broken! I'm 5'3" and weight about 55-60 kilos (haven't weighed myself in a while but am definitely more than the 50kg I was when I got married) and I wear a size 6-8. Ain't no way you're 48kg if you're a size 14ish.

It's possible that you weigh less than before you were pg though, even if you can't fit into the same clothes as before. I had the same thing - your skeleton expands during pg so you might be wider even if you aren't heavier.

WilsonFrickett · 04/09/2012 10:05

Agree that the scales are wrong, however you could weigh less than you did before and be a different shape. I have a much bigger tummy and wider hips now, and carry weight there, I didn't before PG. The shoe size thing is that your bones all soften, just at the time you weigh more than you ever have before, so the feet 'spread'. Nice. Grin

waterlego6064 · 04/09/2012 10:05

Do you need to know how much you weigh OP? Maybe you're just curious but I must admit that I wonder why other people weigh themselves. I weigh myself when I go to the gym but I have control ishoos and an unhealthy body image. I shouldn't weigh myself.

waterlego6064 · 04/09/2012 10:06

My feet were a size six pre-DCs. They're now a 6.5/7. Not becoming on someone of 5'3" :)

Ephiny · 04/09/2012 10:06

I am a similar weight and a couple of inches shorter than you, I wear mostly size 8. It sounds unlikely you are that weight/height and a size 14-16.

Your shape may have changed since being pregnant (there was another thread recently about how your hips and ribcage can expand Hmm) so you could be a bit 'wider' while still the same weight.

48kilos and size 14-16 sounds pretty unlikely though. Unless you're buying your clothes from somewhere with really tiny (or vintage!) sizing?

Anonymumous · 04/09/2012 10:11

How come everyone on here is referring to their weight in kilos? I don't know anyone who uses kilos to describe their weight in real life, and that includes my younger friends who didn't even learn imperial measurements at school!

shaky · 04/09/2012 10:12

I weighed 60kg when I got pregnant, I am 5' 2'', my bmi was 29 and I wore size 14.

Ds is now 2.9 yrs old, I weigh 51kg (approx 8 stone), my bmi is 21 and I wear size 10.

A size 14 would be enormous on me.

NurseBernard · 04/09/2012 10:14

I only know my weight in kilos; our scales are set to kilos.

I'm Antipodean, though. We don't do imperial...

Ephiny · 04/09/2012 10:21

I guess people are giving examples in kilos because that's what the OP used, it's easier to compare if you use the same units :)

However I do normally think of my weight in kilos (though I do know approximately what I am in 'stones').

onelittleclara · 04/09/2012 10:29

I lose weight with each pregnancy. I have three Dc and with each I have weighed a stone less after birth then before. I think my body works really well when I'm pregnant in many regards, not just in terms of weight. However I do tend to start putting the weight back on after 3 or 4 months despite breastfeeding each for a year :(
I went from a dainty size 3.5/4 shoe to a 5, rendering my pre children 100 pair shoe collection useless....

CrackerJackShack · 04/09/2012 10:32

Haven't a sweet clue what I am in stones. My scale is in pounds actually, but I'm a freak. :P

WhatYouLookingAt · 04/09/2012 10:39

Some of us are European. Imperial is ancient, I don't understand the British hold on to such old fashioned hard to use measurements.

DontmindifIdo · 04/09/2012 10:45

You are not 48kg - I'm 48kg, 5' tall and currently wearing a topshop size 8 dress. New scales needed.

EverLast · 04/09/2012 10:45

Before DC'S i weighed 8 stone 7 and was a size 8 im 5'6, i have been up to 12 stone 7 and a size 14 and back now to 8 stone 12 (i dont know what i am in kg) yet im now a size 12. My hips are alot wider and i carry all my weight just bellow my navel. People are always suprised i wear a 12 perhaps im wearing my clothes too big Confused

DeliciousIrony · 04/09/2012 10:58

Maybe you should let Boots know that their scales are a bit on the kind side! I am 5'4, and at size 14 I am usually around the 70kg mark, but obviously body shapes/sizes can differ enormously.

choceyes · 04/09/2012 11:03

I am 48kg and 5'2 and a size 8. Yes your scales are duff.

MrsLettuce · 04/09/2012 11:06

I'm 5'3" and at 55kg I was an 8 and people were starting to say I looked ill. I do have a hefty bone structure though.

minibmw2010 · 04/09/2012 11:21

I'm 76kg (12st), 5ft4 and a size 14 so I'm afraid those scales might have been having a dry bad day ... Wink

WilsonFrickett · 04/09/2012 13:20

I'm a 3.5 shoe.
Just sayin'

NarkedRaspberry · 04/09/2012 13:27

I'd be taking calcium supplements just in case.

ClimbingPenguin · 04/09/2012 13:31

I was 55kg before pg and now weigh 48/49 (depending on how many doughnuts I've eaten that week) am only 5ft1 though. Inbetween DC1 and DC2 I was 53kg. Size 6-8.

geegee888 · 04/09/2012 13:39

I'm 5 feet 1, and only at my very lightest got down to 48kg, and could fit into some size 8s and all 10s. Even the occasional generous size 6. A 12 would have drowned me. Are your scales accurate?

waterlego6064 · 04/09/2012 14:59

MrsLettuce I'm 5'3" too. I looked too thin when I was 55kg, at which I was a size 6. I am now 63kg which sounds huge for my height but I'm a size 8. I must have very heavy bones! I am quite muscular though - maybe you are too.
