it so reminds me of my childhood, and the people who were around me when I was growing up

I feel proper sick in the pit of my stomach

I saw enough of it to see what looks like a young boy (12???) being asked by a Gothic looking older teenager (??) if he wanted to suck her tits. I saw this thread title and thought that was what this thread was about. made me sick to the stomach but didn't keep watching.... maybe I misunderstood and they were meant to be the same age. I don't understand and don't know if I want to either.

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 03/09/2012 11:43

Yes I squirmed at that bit too.

i loved the film though...enjoy a gritty film like Ken Loach.
I grew up in Leeds (born 1960) and my god, it was horrible.

ErikNorseman · 03/09/2012 11:47

No, smell was 18 and Sean was 12. That was pretty grim. There are two further series', 86 and 88. Both extraordinary and powerful but not to be taken lightly. 86 in particular is extremely hard to watch at times.

AmberLeaf · 03/09/2012 11:52

Loved the film and the series.

The scene where Lol visits Combo in prison was very moving and made me 'understand' him and showed he did have a sensitive side too.

WilsonFrickett · 03/09/2012 11:53

YY Eric, This is England 86 will live with me for a very long time. Astonishingly brave TV though.

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 03/09/2012 11:58

The actor who plays Combo is lovely and very down to earth in real life. He plays Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire and is fantastic in that role too.

Vicky McClure is amazing, I was going brought a hard time postnatally when I watched the episodes where she was having mental health problems, it was so real and so difficult to watch.
She's just brilliant and I hope she has a wonderful career, she deserves to.

imonthefone · 03/09/2012 12:05

i very much feel numb towards people like combo...

imonthefone · 03/09/2012 12:06

havent seen the series..but have experienced many people like him in RL, and been through the rigmoral of understanding/sympathising etc etc its a sewer

WillNeverGetALicence · 03/09/2012 12:57

Dead Man's Shoes - I know it's not an easy watch [have read some reviews] but is it quite gruesome in it's depiction of the events/revenge?

I've heard it's meant to be quite brilliant but I don't think I could bear to watch scenes of extreme violence or torture

laptopcomputer · 03/09/2012 13:10

he sounds very nice :)

imonthefone · 03/09/2012 13:19

Yes and their history (their previous 'encounter') he had very deep feelings for Lol which although not reciprocated were acknowledged by her.

I want to go and watch it again now!

imonthefone · 03/09/2012 13:58

ill have to watch the series

but of course there is a humane side to him..being sensitive and vulnerable is how you get there innit

the bit with sean and smells was awful he was 12 fgs they did keep going out but it is just eww that conversation ,

Lol and woody had me in tears in 88 proper sobs

wordfactory · 03/09/2012 14:08

DH and I watched the most recent 'episode' this weekend. Utterly fantastic.

I read an interview with the actress whoplays Lol and she said Shane insisted she be excluded from the set unless she was filming so that it added to her alientation.

What a powerful performance she put in. I cried so many times!!!!

JeremyKylesPetProject · 03/09/2012 14:11

Stephen Graham is married to the shoeshop owner/ sex mad neighbour Trudy in real life. I was chuffed to see that he has a thing for the larger lady as I have a bit of a crush on him. :o

wordfactory · 03/09/2012 14:11

We also watched a movie called Winter's Bone.

Not what I'd call a feel good weekend cinematically speaking.
