To want to slap Claire Balding around the face with wet lettuce??

C4 is using commentators and spokes-people with disabilities that reflect some of the disabilities incurred by the participants.

In some cases, they are considerably better than the mainstream sports presenters.

Ade Adepitan for example has been a brilliant commentator this evening. Informed, knows his subject inside out, has a good grasp of human biology but he's witty, funny, personable, watchable etc

Unlike Claire Balding who should be taken out and shot for getting overly excited by Sophie Christiansen (equestrian gold), who has a fairly obvious form of cerebral palsy and announcing "she's not just just {obvious gap of words} she's got a masters in mathematics, she's intelligent too".

I didn't mean to say I would shoot you OP - I take that back because it makes me sound like a weirdo.

WhatYouLookingAt · 02/09/2012 22:02

I think wanting to shoot someone for commentary on the paralympics, which has many competitors who are disabled due to being blown up and/or shot at is particularly poor taste.
Hmm

Abra1d · 02/09/2012 22:02

I didn't take it in that sense at all, OP. She was saying that not only was the competitor gifted in equestrianism but was extremely intelligent, in an admiring sense, just as she would have done of any other athlete, disabled or not.

JeezyOrangePips · 02/09/2012 22:02

You are talking tosh, op.

If they can't talk about Paralympians in the same way they talk about Olympians there is somerhing wrong. They often commented about Olympians other achievements. Why should they not do the same with Paralympians?

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 02/09/2012 22:03

Has she really got a history of foot in mouth?

Apart from commenting about that Irish jockey's teeth (which were terrible tombstones in his mouth) I can't think of any other howlers.

NorksAreMessy · 02/09/2012 22:03

YABU

HTH

dinkystinky · 02/09/2012 22:03

YABU - people can on occasion mis-speak and to be honest, Ms Balding's coverage of the Olympics and Paralympics otherwise has been admirable. Now, Gary Linekar, I'd cheerfully form a shooting squad for... Can you imagine if that numpty was presenting/commentating for the paralympics?

MrsCampbellBlack · 02/09/2012 22:03

Oh Clare is lovely on twitter and not because she just replied to me once Blush

alphablock · 02/09/2012 22:03

I heard her comment and thought she was simply saying that Sophie was clever as well as being a great athlete, which surely cannot possibly be wrong, especially when said in such an enthusiastic and clearly complimentary way.

I think C4 have chosen a good mix of people with different levels of knowledge and broadcasting experience and believe Claire Balding is doing an amazing job.

cybbo · 02/09/2012 22:03

Oh for heavens sake whatyoulookingat

Skillbo · 02/09/2012 22:03

Think you might be u about the comment but yanbu about Clare as a whole - don't get the whole CB adoration on here recently...

WorraLiberty · 02/09/2012 22:03

I really can't get fussed about her one way or another

She seems ok though and gets the job done.

Pickles77 · 02/09/2012 22:04

I luff her too. Anyone remember when she insulted the grand national winning jockeys teeth by accident?

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 02/09/2012 22:04

Clare spoke to me on the MN webchat after I commended her on her reaction to AA 'overbite' Gill's crass comments.

WhatYouLookingAt · 02/09/2012 22:04

heavens sake why? Confused

Pickles77 · 02/09/2012 22:04

Oooos sorry Xposted Blush

cybbo · 02/09/2012 22:05

Your reply to getorfs light hearted comment is completely OTT. IMVHO

JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 02/09/2012 22:05

oh ok ...I take it on board I'm BU!

can I just slap her with a wet lettuce instead? Grin I thought she was dreadfully patronising. I've neve seen her get exited about anything that doesnt have a leg on each corner, eat hay and shit a lot before

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 02/09/2012 22:05

She might be the least offensive person on the planet

I think you're overthinking it OP Wink

WorraLiberty · 02/09/2012 22:06

WhatYouLookingAt people use that expression all the time

It's not like the OP said she wants to amputate her limbs or something...that really would have been in poor taste.

I doubt she even thought about the connection between people being shot and people being blown up (not that there is a particular connection)

cybbo · 02/09/2012 22:06

I see that the OP started the shooting thing though so apologies Smile

Northernlurkerisonholiday · 02/09/2012 22:07

I've reported this thread too. I think you've misunderstood what she said OP - but regardless of that, saying she should be shot is really unpleasant.

JeezyOrangePips · 02/09/2012 22:08

You are wrong. She wasn't being patronising.

Were they being patronising about Tom daleys a levels and father dying?

whiskyfudge · 02/09/2012 22:08

Did you WATCH The Olympics? She got excited about everything! She's a wee doll.

smogwod · 02/09/2012 22:08

YABVVU, leave Clare alone!
