Knock on the door yesterday morning. Newish neighbour from down the road a bit standing there explaining that he had accidentally scraped the side of our car while parking (we live on a very narrow street). DH goes out to have a look and says not to worry, there are worse scrapes on the car already (we live on a very narrow street).

Knock on the door a few hours later. Neighbour again, this time brandishing a tube of Tcut and a bottle of wine.

What a nice man and as DH pointed out completely unnecessary as we'd never have known if he hadn't fessed up. Just thought I'd share as I thought AIBU could do with a bit of cheering up today.

Awww that's sweet. He sounds like a good new neighbour.

whattodoo · 01/09/2012 16:14

What a great guy!

IawnCont · 01/09/2012 16:14

What a pleasant guy. And a nice thread! :)

DruAnderson · 01/09/2012 16:15

That's really nice. Lucky you to have a lovely neighbour.

RuleBritannia · 01/09/2012 16:16

What a lovely gesture. We could do with a few more posts like the OP's!

I told a friend recently that I have to go to a local clinic for a day eye op. She immediately offfered to accompany me. She has no car so would have had to use the bus everywhere. I would not be able to drive for obvious reasons and I thought how good it was of her to offer.

Themumsnot · 01/09/2012 16:19

That's lovely, RB. Have some Thanks for your friend!
Maybe we should make this an official thread for random acts of kindness. Grin

What is Tcut?

Yesterday a girl who works in a cupcake shop and often gets the bus with us gave toddler ds one of her leftover cakes to keep him occupied when the bus was late. She gave one to the driver too. Who says teenagers are selfish dicks?

Themumsnot · 01/09/2012 16:33

Tcut is car polish stuff that is good for hiding scratches.

How lovely of the cupcake girl.

Note to self: do random acts of kindness more often.

that's lovely Smile

Trills · 01/09/2012 16:34

You think your neighbour shouldn't have done this?

Have you written it backwards? Confused

WorraLiberty · 01/09/2012 16:36

Trills I think she means in it a "Aww you shouldn't have" kind of way?

He sounds like a lovely neighbour OP

TheMonster · 01/09/2012 16:37

What a nice chap.

RuleBritannia · 01/09/2012 16:40

Note sure but I think T Cut spreads existing aint over the scratch. I keep meaning to go out and attend to one on my car but keep forgetting.

RuleBritannia · 01/09/2012 16:40

*existing paint

InkyBinky · 01/09/2012 16:41

Smile. Nice post OP.

When I saw the title of the thread I had already muttered a 'almost certainly not' in anticipation of the usual awful things that MN nieghbours are prone to do.

Themumsnot · 01/09/2012 16:41

That's just what I meant, Worra. All the more lovely for being totally unnecessary. If you saw our car, you'd know what I mean. Grin

Lovely - agreed we need more like this Grin

Tiredmumno1 · 01/09/2012 17:21

That's really lovely Smile our old neighbours gave my DP wine and chocs when he fixed their car, some people are lovely.

I always do my neighbourly thing, which mainly consists of running around the road picking up rubbish. I did pick up an open letter off the floor today and returned it to the original owner who was very grateful, that's my neighbourly deed for today Grin

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 01/09/2012 17:32

He sounds too nice. I'm worried he can't really be trusted.

I suggest you get the wine and T-cut out of your house pronto, in this day and age neighbours shouldn't even make eye contact. Anything more is a bad sign.

akaemmafrost · 01/09/2012 17:35

Well you sound really nice too OP. not many would react like that Smile.

EarnestDullard · 01/09/2012 17:41

I agree with akammafrost; your neighbour sounds lovely, but so do you and your DH! Neighbour was probably terrified, if' he's new to the area and having to confess that he'd scraped your car. He must have been grateful to find out how reasonable you are :)

EarnestDullard · 01/09/2012 17:41

Sorry, misspelled akaemmafrost's name Blush

treaclesoda · 01/09/2012 17:43

how awful Themumsmnot, it must be a nightmare for you living near such a terrible neighbour.

That sort of unreasonable behaviour reminds me of the time my parents in law offered to babysit for us so that we could go out for dinner alone. I mean, how dare they? Grin

MammaTJisanOlympicSumoWrestler · 01/09/2012 17:44

What a lovely thing to do!!

M44 · 01/09/2012 17:49

I love it....random acts of kindness.
Just took warm chocolate chip muffins round to new neighbour......then he invited us to a BBQ next weekend. Now there's lovely!
