I am aghast by my DP (lighthearted, sort of)

My DP has just come back from TK Maxx where I dispached him to change trousers I got him two weeks ago (the label said 34/34 which is his size but they were more like 32/32). He came back saying there were none in his size. I asked what size he thought he was '34 waist, 36 length'. I said, 'have you never, in 43 years bought yourself trousers?'.

OMG, his Mum has bought all his trousers his whole life. I have been with him 10 years and have got into a habit of buying him bits and pieces as well and his Mum buys him loads for his birthday/Christmas. He wears uniform to work.

AIBU to be thinking of leaving him shocked because he has never bought himself trousers?

My DH said to me last week "what's my inside leg length?"

He honestly did not know. How can you NOT KNOW?

rainbowinthesky · 01/09/2012 11:32

I don't find this funny. I must be odd. I'd hate to be in a relationship like this.

Thumbwitch · 01/09/2012 11:34

YANBU to be Shock - I expect my DH to know his own measurements, FFS!
Yes I remember them too (handy for presents and so on) but he is able to buy his own clothes.

MissSayuri · 01/09/2012 11:36

In 23 years of relationships I have NEVER bought my significant other trousers. Would we let guys buy us trousers? Ha! I need to try on about 30 pairs of jeans before I'm satisfied, why is it so different for guys? Baffled. YANBU, I'd be pretty pissed off that my OH was so gormless tbh.

JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 01/09/2012 11:37

I buy everyones clothes in this house ..... must make me odd as well Grin

MissS - I haven't bought DH proper suit trousers, he needs to try those on himself of course to make sure the cut is right, but casual trousers and shorts, yes. It speeds up shopping as well because I can look for things he might like in the right size while he's doing the same.

KatOD · 01/09/2012 11:52

I'm a bit surprised but don't think it's that weird, my husband remembers my shoe size which I just can't for some reason...(I have three physics based degrees I'm not innumerate), maybe it's just lack of interest?

DefinitelyDarwin · 01/09/2012 11:55

I buy loads for my DP, if I let him do it he just gets everything in a mingling shade of green/camo or brown.

Took me ages to convince him to wear something other than farm gear!

EverythingsNotRosie · 01/09/2012 14:15

My DH doesn't know any of his own sizes. I have to go shopping with him. I hate it!

BeeBee12 · 01/09/2012 14:23

I dont think this is the same for younger men.My dh, his friends and my brother have to try their own on cause they want chinos and exactly right fitting t shirts etc.My brother tries on about 50:outfits every time he goes clubbing.Highly annoying!

lovemykaygees · 01/09/2012 14:29

Well yeah, maybe it is an age thing. My DP is pretty fashion conscious, he's only just turned 30. I am too, but he buys all his own stuff. Why should I waste my precious time trying to make him look good? I'd DIE if he took charge of what I wore!

Maat · 01/09/2012 14:35

I could not go and buy DH any trousers because I don't know his waist size.

He likes to keep that to himself rather than admitting he is not the same size as he was when we met Grin

MadamFolly · 01/09/2012 15:09

My ex used to just grab jeans off the shelf and buy them. They were always huge and he had to belt them to stop them falling off.

I took him shopping once and had to pick out a likely looking pair and make him try them on. He was amazed and could not stop going on about how comfy they were.

He was unaware that there were different sizes of trousers and that you could look at the label to see if they would fit or not.

He is a an astrophysicist. Hmm

Tee2072 · 01/09/2012 15:12

I have a vague idea what size my husband is but I would never just buy him something as he's pickier about his clothes than I am about mine.

Mrsjay · 01/09/2012 15:14

I have a feeling My dds boyfriend is going to be like this at 43 sigh I do think they are going to be together for a long while yet, he is in early 20s and his mum buys his clothes for him and the other day I found dd ordering him stuff online, he had given her money should i tell her to run for the hills now Grin

Mrsjay · 01/09/2012 15:16

tee i don't buy my dh clothes he is a fussy bugger so I leave him to it I wouldn't know what size of trousers to get ,

JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 01/09/2012 15:17

You're going to hate me - I just went out on a marathon under pants excursion - cue: 3 blokes all fighting over who is having the ones with the smiley faces Grin I now have to mark the labels coz they are all the same size sigh
