To think the word 'Amazing' is over used?

That's it really. I know there are more important things to worry about but I can't help but cringe slightly when someone calls something/someone amazing when it's not necessarily so.

I feel it's a bit over the top and sometimes a little patronising. And then of course when something is truly amazing, the word 'amazing' doesn't really cover it anymore!

Amazingly, I agree with you. Grin

missymoomoomee · 31/08/2012 14:32

Better than the worry trend of 'amazeballs' I can't stand that word.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 31/08/2012 14:32

I know somebody that says it a lot. It's irritating at times. Usually it isn't necessary.

So I agree.

missymoomoomee · 31/08/2012 14:32

worrying*

streakybacon · 31/08/2012 15:29

I've also noticed that the Official Word of the Olympics and Paralympics is 'phenomenal'. Every bleedin' thing is 'phenomenal'. They fart and it's 'phenomenal'.

It's just phenomenal. And amazing Grin.

itsatrap · 31/08/2012 16:05

Guilty

Some0ne · 31/08/2012 16:11

It's a change from everything being 'incredible'. God, Jamie Oliver and his 'incredible', 'beautiful' and 'amazing'.

SoleSource · 31/08/2012 17:43

Not if you're Lionel Ritchie. :)

SundaysGirl · 31/08/2012 17:53

Oh god though have you heard this 'Amazeballs' word thats doing the rounds, I believe due to effing Cosmopolitan? Hmm

fortifiedwithtea · 31/08/2012 17:57

Awesome puts my teeth on edge.

DublinMammy · 31/08/2012 18:05

Amazeballs makes me stabby.

DowntonOut · 31/08/2012 18:08

YABU. But only because it's my 2yo DD's favourite word at the moment and I love listening to her saying it. Grin

squishee · 18/09/2012 22:35

No, IMO YA absolutely NBU. "Amazing" is overused to within an inch of its life. Ditto "Amazeballs"

MarysBeard · 18/09/2012 22:38

Totes amazeballs, shurely? It's too funny to annoy me.

AIB thick? But WTF does the 'balls' bit of 'amazeballs' actually

furrygoldone · 19/09/2012 06:46

It's not nearly as annoying as the constant use of super as a superlative.

'how was the cake?'

'oh it was super spongey'

Really fucking irritating.

furrygoldone · 19/09/2012 06:47

Sorry not quite sure why I felt the need to swear in that post, a bit unnecessary.

PlopButNOPudding · 19/09/2012 09:25

Actually mean that was supposed to say.
Furry I totally agree. Is often preceded by like for added annoyance:

'she is, like, super cool'

TroublesomeEx · 19/09/2012 10:28

I agree.

Awesome is also an overused word.

The universe is awesome.

That I remembered to pick up your dry cleaning isn't. Hmm

StealthPolarBear · 19/09/2012 10:30

and absolutely (yes they do italicise it in speech) instead of "yes"

AmazingBouncingFerret · 19/09/2012 10:31
Hmm
imnotmymum · 19/09/2012 10:32

I noticed that yesterday on Heart radio every other thing was amazing!

irishchic · 19/09/2012 10:51

Yes, my sister will always stuff like oh my god that top is just aMAZing on you, or where did you get that necklace, its AMAZING! It makes me feel grumpy that she is exaggerating so much, even though i know she is just trying to me nice to me, then i get massive guilt for being such a grouch when someone gives me a compliment. I just feel like replying, " thanks, i know its nice, but its hardly amazing is it?" which would make me a total bitch of course.

Pandemoniaa · 19/09/2012 10:53

I see your "amazing" and raise you "awesome". Also over-used and rarely warranted.
