In fairness, they do look a lot sturdier than the £35 ones. I could have got the same ones from a cheap shoe shop for a tenner.

We were about £35 for a pair of clarks shoes this year. Iv noticed that there is hardly any prices on the childrens shoes.

Clarks is the only place where i live where i can get shoes that fit my dd.

Most of their shoes are around the £30 mark, I've been in clarks this week and didn't see any at that price. Sorry but YABU you can hardly blame the store they're not forcing you to buy them.

Myliferocks · 30/08/2012 20:36

I gave up on Clarks shoes for my DC years ago!
On the rare occasions that we found some that fitted they didn't last long at all before they were wrecked!
Good old Shoezone or Asda in this house.

lazylula · 30/08/2012 20:45

Ds1's shoes were £32. They are the same as the ones he had last year, which lasted the whole school year. Fingers crossed for the same thing this yer. £50 is a lot more than I would want to pay though.

LadySybildeChocolate · 30/08/2012 20:45

I'd expected them to be about £40, which is why I didn't ask. There was no price ticket on the box, or inside the shoes. I should have asked. It's not the end of the world, I do think that they need to be clearer with their customers though.

YANBU...£50 is far too much. I love 'Toughees' shoes. Sensible school shoes and nice styles for about £28. His last pair have taken a bashing in the puddles and mud and still look smart

Thankyou, squats, I'll have a look. Smile

I always go for Start-Rite, they last so much better - older two had same shoes for a good 8/9 months.
We had to get some Bootlegs for dd last term, they're already wearing down much faster than the SRs.
Still, children's shoes avoid VAT, although since dd is now a 6.5 it won't be much longer...

LadySybildeChocolate · 30/08/2012 21:02

He's had some of those before, they seem to fall apart very easily as the stitching becomes undone. He was allowed to wear timberland for a while, his current school is strict though.

I paid £45 for ds shoes in clarks as he is now an adult size 4- I've tried to get him cheaper shoes but he has such narrow feet that off the peg shoes just don't fit him properly.

LtEveDallas · 30/08/2012 21:08

DD's school shoes last year cost £12.99 from Stead and Simpson. They lasted until Easter and I bought another pair that took us to the end of the school year.

This year I have bought the same kind, one size up. Unfortunately they've gone up in price £15.00 now! They are leather, have a good chunky sole and DD says they are very comfortable.

HERE

Walkright shoes are great, don't cost the earth and last just as long as the more expensive brands. I hate Clarks - they are nothing but a rip off.

Tryharder · 30/08/2012 21:11

I bought some shoes for DS1 from Clarks - they were from their cheapest range but still £35. He had scuffed a hole in them within 4 weeks. I took them back and exchanged them. Their returns policy and customer service has always been good IME.

Saying that, I prefer Geox for my boys. They are the same price as Clarks but nicer.

AnnoyingOrange · 30/08/2012 21:15

I bought my ds some clarks shoes last week and they were £28.

Ds wouldn't be able to wear those, Orange. They are too much like trainers. I've looked at some sites online, I can only find the trainer style or slip on shoes in his size.

Go to Brantano and get them there.

LadySybildeChocolate · 30/08/2012 21:26

I've looked at the web site, valium, they don't have the right ones for his feet. I also don't know where the nearest one to me is.

I never buy Clarks school shoes as they're dreadful quality.

Always buy Startrite for all 3 and they last all year every year without fail £40 each. They're proper leather not that nasty pretend stuff Clarks do that scuffs off but real leather you can polish with cheap supermarket tinned polish and they come up looking like new.

Russell & Bromley are fab fitters, just enough to last all year but not too much and thin widths for dd.

I had to buy dd PE trainers for school this year, could only buy Clarks as only they seem to sell trainers with thin widths but the lady in the bhop lied to me.Got told they didn't come in the width we've had before which they didn't have so she tried to push the next width up.Went to the independent shop down the road and what a surprise got the trainers we wanted in the size I knew they did.

Flossiechops · 30/08/2012 21:32

I have never found clarks to be poor quality, my 2 dc aged 7 & 8 have always worn clarks school shoes and they have always lasted from the summer through to the next summer. I paid £75 for x2 pairs of school shoes and x2 pairs of black P.E pumps, I didn't that was too bad for the years investment. Dd also has a pair of winter boots bought in the sale for £20 last year and these still look and fit fine.

Prarieflower · 30/08/2012 21:32

Had to return several pairs to Clarks for bad fitting(lying sales personnel trying to shift stock)and know several others who have had to too.

babyfirefly1980 · 30/08/2012 21:38

I buy Ds (who goes through shoes like theres no tommorow) 9.99 black boots from Shoezone and they last really well.

WillNeverGetALicence · 30/08/2012 23:00

I buy 'new' or 'nearly new' second hand shoes on ebay.

Clarks, Start Rite, etc.

Save a ton. Pay about £5 - £10 per pair, often including delivery.

AlwaysHoldingOnToStars · 30/08/2012 23:09

I've always found Clarks shoes last really well. I'm lucky that my boys have slow growing feet, but we do a 4 mile school run per day and their shoes last the year.

This year though we haven't been able to afford their prices so I went to TKMaxx and bought Hush Puppies and Kickers. They were £20 per pair, so I'll see how well they fare compared to Clarks.
