Wow thanks bored, looked on the wyndsor sight the shoes are fantastic and nice and cheap

BigBoobiedBertha · 30/08/2012 19:33

Blimey, I didn't even think Clarks did school shoes that expensive!

My DS1 has adult sized feet and the shoes we got him were £40 which I thought was bad enough but they will last at least the year. Yours had better be nice for £50.

I must admit I would have queried and possibly walked away if I heard that at the check out.

Why don't you take them back?

cinnamonnut · 30/08/2012 19:35

Clarks shoes often last longer than cheaper ones.

AmaraDresden · 30/08/2012 19:36

I paid 38quid for a pair from Clarks just before Christmas last year. They were only worn at school, so not during the holiday, and a week back at school after Christmas and the sole was completely fucked. Not going back there again. Besides he is currently growing a size every two months, and ds2 has to have similar otherwise he is a major Pita.

LadySybildeChocolate · 30/08/2012 19:37

There's nowhere else to get shoes from and the cheaper ones were not as comfy. John Lewis sell clarks, and M&S looked like a jumble sale.

Try hush puppies
£40 and they last the whole school year
Awesome

LadySybildeChocolate · 30/08/2012 19:39

I haven't bought him clarks shoes for years. I'm tempted to open a shoe shop, the mark-up must be huge from there!

Clarks usually have an outlet with older styles. You can get them half price .

LadySybildeChocolate · 30/08/2012 19:44

I'll see if they last. The woman had the nerve to try to sell me trainers at £25 (£5 off as I'd spend over £30) as well! Are they commission based or something? I'm off to JJB/Sports direct on Monday.

pigletmania I got DS's last pair from there, there is a real mixture from cheapy plasticky ones, to nice leather ones, to kicker and hush puppies. I got DS some cheap leather ones at Easter (about £15 I think), and he'll be wearing them to go back in next week as they still look nice for a change.

LadySybildeChocolate · 30/08/2012 19:50

The uniforms are cheaper in M&S, so at least that's something. I think I'll see how they go, I won't be a happy bunny if the bottom falls off in 2 weeks though.

They are not commission based, Clarksville use a lot of mystery shoppers, they have to offer you a second item, if they don't and you turn out to be a mystery shopper they get a bad result

pigletmania · 30/08/2012 19:58

I saw the kickers I got dd from there. They have some lovely shoes, thanks bored

silversun · 30/08/2012 20:00

Clarks village in street, Somerset. 3 pairs of school shoes for £70, job done!

whenyouseeitwaveorcheer · 30/08/2012 20:03

I got DDs school shoes from Brantano with a 50% off code that was on here. They are Osh Kosh rather than Clarks, we could have had Clarks but I prefer Osh Kosh as DD has had them in the past and finds them more comfortable and I think they're better quality.

They were £14 with the 50% discount.

LadySybildeChocolate · 30/08/2012 20:04

Goodness, I'd feel terrible if I'd have just got £50 out of someone, and then tried to get more out of them! She should have told me the price before I paid, I should have asked though.

We only moved here in June, I don't really know my way around yet. We only went to Clarks as it was opposite the cafe where we had lunch. I need to have a good look around.

I would honestly take them back. Say they rub or something. Go somewhere cheaper.

Fifty quid??? Seriously???

nokidshere · 30/08/2012 20:08

I went to brantano this time because my children (11 & 13) are in adult shoe sizes now :( and it definitly wasn't cheaper than clarks! Although obviously I had to buy mens shoes! cost me £104 for two pairs of shoes and a pair of trainers Shock

gordyslovesheep · 30/08/2012 20:11

3 pairs and 3 gym bags last week - £114 - thanks very much

but I do prefer Clarks or Startrite they seem to last my three very well

wigglesrock · 30/08/2012 20:15

I always bought my dds school shoes at Clarks - last year they were priced £48 and they weren't great for her. She doesn't suit the ballet pump type thing Clarks was full of. So we went to M&S and bought a pair for £18 - they did her all school year and she can be hard on shoes - bloody skipping ropes Grin

This year we got a £9.99 pair from Shoe Zone, we'll see what happens but no more dear shoes for school.

5madthings · 30/08/2012 20:16

i pay £50 a pair or more for my kids shoes, sometimes they area bit cheaper, but htey have wide feet with a high instep and i get ricosta, geox or other european makes, they DO last tho and are very good quality, plus they fit their awkward shaped feet, unlike clarks or startrite who dont have anything that fits!

bochead · 30/08/2012 20:20

How on earth do peeps get shoes that last a whole school year?

DS has gone up 2 full shoe sizes since Easter (2-4 junior) and that's not abnormal for him over a 6 month timeframe. He's 8, but I don't expect his rate of growth to slow down till he hits 14-15 (adult sizes by then anyway).

On the strength front, I've given up on shoes and am buying black leather hiking boots for next term. A decent walk to school, winter weather + dyspraxia means most high street shoes just won't hack it.

FamiliesShareGerms · 30/08/2012 20:22

I paid £55 for DS's new school shoes (Ricosta brand) from a small independent store, as Clarks have been rubbish and a bad fit the last couple of times we have tried there. I figure that he will scuff the toes within the first week, but if the soles last until Christmas they will have done well. On a cost per wear, considering they wear them every day for five days a week (and often DS doesn't wear any other shoes on a school day), it's not too bad. But it's a lot in one go.

Sometimes Brantano have bargains, but I got DD some Clarks Doodles from there for £18 last week, which is about the going rate for them in store, I think.
