To feel really sorry for myself

Iabu I know but I'm in day 3 of a 103/104 temperature. I'm told it's tonnsilitis, I can't swallow and I'm nauseous. Anti biotics don't seem to have made a jot of difference. I'm sweating like a racehorse and above all I'm suffering from leaky eyes cause I am so so so sorry for myself and I'm crying hot tears of self pity.
I'm finally on my hols after going back working 3 weeks after DD was born nearly 10 months ago.
Sod's law.

Otheregos · 29/08/2012 15:01

Nyanbu, sods law is an ass! Get a sick note and claim your hols back, thats what I would do, that way you get to take your hols when you feel better. Sorry not much help, but hope you feel better soon

wannabedomesticgoddess · 29/08/2012 15:02

YANBU that sounds really really horrible.

Can you have ice cream for the temp and sore throat?

Whatwhatwhat · 29/08/2012 15:10

Poxy self employed. Just seasonal downtime so can take our hols.. This one is a real memory maker.
I've been skulling paracetamol at a rate that has the DH in a tizz.
I've put myself on half rations since yesterday night i.e. the recommended dosage.

Makes me cringe to think what I'd be like if I was really sick. I had a c section with DD and I'm not being unkind to myself by admitting that the MWs hated me. Justifiably. I'm the opposite of a soldier.

YANBU - Poor you, Sounds vile.

Otheregos - You have shocked me!!! Do people really do that? Surely it is just rotten luck if you are ill on your hols. What about those who get tummy bugs abroad?

MyCatHasStaff · 29/08/2012 15:15

YANBU tonsillitis is horrible. Did you know you can tandem dose with paracetamol and ibuprofen? Space your doses two hours apart, ie paracetamol at 4, 8 and 12, ibu at 2, 6 and 10 etc. Really helps keep your temperature down and is safe.

Whatwhatwhat · 29/08/2012 15:20

I fecking can't take unproven cause of asthma. Does anything else have ibuprofen?
Off to google...

OP posts:
Whatwhatwhat · 29/08/2012 15:20

I meant nurofen not unproven!

Sparrowp · 29/08/2012 15:22

Ice cream? Torch

Trazzletoes · 29/08/2012 15:24

Crapricorn course they do! I wouldn't bother for a cold etc, but if I was properly properly ill, I would damn well make sure I got to enjoy my holiday some other time.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 29/08/2012 15:26

Crapricorn broadly you do have a legal right to claim back your holiday if you are sick although it may depend on specific circumstances.

www.adviceguide.org.uk/england/work_e/work_time_off_work_e/holidays_and_holiday_pay.htm

If you do change to sick days rather than holiday then your employer can pay you sick pay instead of holiday pay.

stargirl1701 · 29/08/2012 15:27

I've been prescribed codeine each time I had tonsillitis. That sorts the fecker out. Go back to GP for some real painkillers.

Whatwhatwhat · 29/08/2012 15:28

Ice cream normally cures me of most misery but it's just not putting up any sort of decent fight on this one.
Maybe a paracetomol Magnum?

OP posts:
Whatwhatwhat · 29/08/2012 15:28

Coated with a crisp shell of pain reducing drugs that don't count towards the daily allowance.
I'm possibly going cracked here with the fever.

OP posts:
Whatwhatwhat · 29/08/2012 15:30

That's a good point about going back for some codeine. I should have known well enough to tell the Doc to shove the paracetomol.

OP posts:
Crapricorn · 29/08/2012 15:35

Well! I live and learn!
I am a teacher and often seem to get ill during the hols but never in term time. Can't see this rule counting for us though.
I guess if you only get 4 weeks holidays a year and you are ill for 2 weeks it would be pretty depressing.

PackItInNow · 29/08/2012 16:11

Can you get to Boots and get Diclofenac 25mg and take it as well as co-codamol 8/500mg. If that doesn't work, then you should see your GP about some decent pain relief.

Bitdifferent · 29/08/2012 16:26

Oh poor you! It's because you've finally slowed down :( If you really can't take ibuprofen you can't take diclofenac, but co-codamol is the way to go. But don't OD on the paracetamol, it's really dangerous. Try hot salt mouthwashes and the ABs will work soon. Lots of rest and hot drinks, how a out a box set day? Get well soon.

Whatwhatwhat · 29/08/2012 17:32

Just checked and can only get those on prescription. Back to the doc I go. thanks everyone

OP posts:
oldraver · 29/08/2012 17:37

You can get co-codamol OTC, just dont take other paracetamol with it

Whatwhatwhat · 29/08/2012 18:47

Checked there with pharmacist. We're in Ireland. Maybe just not OTC here.

OP posts:
charlottehere · 29/08/2012 18:49

Oh you poor love. Sad Take it easy.

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 29/08/2012 18:51

Oh poor you it sounds awful. Get some numbing throat pastilles to suck - if they are strongly numbing, they may help. And gargle with whiskey. Seriously.

JockSprockPooPongMcPlop · 29/08/2012 18:57

Exactly how much paracetamol were you taking?
Overdose of paracetamol can cause liver failure.

charlottehere · 29/08/2012 18:57

Have yo tried codiene?

neverputasockinatoaster · 29/08/2012 19:06

As a sufferer of tonsilitis as an adult I'm sending sympathy...

I can recommend Tyrozets (little pink things in a yellow tube). They numb the throat lovely. As do Merocets.

I used to put a towel on the pillow so I didn't have to swallow saliva....Blush
