To not want to think or talk about Christmas

CruCru · 28/08/2012 14:33

It is August. It is still quite warm. No, I have no idea what we are doing for Christmas. No, I haven't thought about starting my Christmas shopping.

I hate Christmas usually anyway.

AIBU?

I had a hot cross bun today , felt weird and wrong .

What you doing for new year ?

OddBoots · 28/08/2012 14:36

YANBU to want to think or talk about Christmas but is this prompted by someone asking you directly or by other people who do want to think about Christmas talking to each other in your hearing/seeing?

Lots of other people do want to get sorted now either because they love Christmas or because they find it stressful so want it done and out of the way and they shouldn't be attacked for that.

Paiviaso · 28/08/2012 14:39

YANBU. I saw a restaurant advertising their Christmas bookings yesterday. No. NO.

WaitingForMe · 28/08/2012 14:40

YANBU but I'm giving birth in November and am making and freezing loads of stuff in advance starting after my birthday in mid-Sept. I felt it best to give MIL a good month for her passive aggressive concerns about my capabilities before she needs to say whether she's coming or not Wink

StuntGirl · 28/08/2012 14:40

You're talking about it now Grin

Shinyshoes1 · 28/08/2012 14:41

YABU Don't you know

it's the most wonderful tiiiimeeee of the yeeeeeeeeeaaarrrr

PoohBearsHole · 28/08/2012 14:41

I put an embargo on xmas talk in the office as my excitable colleague was getting, well, all excited! Told him NOTHING to be mentioned until mid September at the earliest - my dc haven't gone to school yet so it is STILL the school holidays! And the summer ones at that!!!!!

QuenelleOJersey2012 · 28/08/2012 14:42

YANBU. All references to Christmas should be confined to the Christmas topic until the first of December.

Including this thread.

MaisyMooCow · 28/08/2012 14:44

So many people start buying gifts now so they can spread the cost.

SoleSource · 28/08/2012 14:45

17 weeks to go until Chrimbo!

JammySplodger · 28/08/2012 14:47

DM's already pressuring us with "when are we going to see you over Christmas? Is it going to be longer than two nights this time?"

I'm thinking Tenerife might be nice for the whole festive season.

bubalou · 28/08/2012 14:48

I am big on xmas. I'm from a big family & love having a day together of exchanging gifts, playing games, eating etc.

However I hate how in advance it all is. It completely ruins xmas the fact that you have had it shoved in your face for at least 3 months before.

However - I'm getting a pair of louboutins for xmas this year so I can't wait!

I LOVE Christmas. YABU Grin

BackforGood · 28/08/2012 14:56

well, it's useful to start having the conversations about who is going to be where over Christmas, as that starts affecting other days around Christmas, which all get pretty busy on our family calendar.

CruCru · 28/08/2012 15:36

I can see the point of some planning - I don't suggest that people should all put off their Christmas shopping until 20 December. However - really? People really need to start planning in August? Gosh.

YANBU- It is annoying, and there are still so many Christian holidays in between, the church year has not even come to an end yet...

I saw it here on MN and immediately got annoyed, but then I saw that it was actually posted on the Christmas board and just shown up on active...so I totally felt it's up to them what they want to talk about or not and not my business...

And in our multi-cultural and multi-religious family Christmas has a meaning, so no wouldn't even discuss or think about it now, and because it has a meaning, it's also not the time where material gifts would be that huge we find other occasions during the year more appropriate and therefore are not so phased about "how many paychecks" away it is Hmm

LadyBeagleEyes · 28/08/2012 15:50

We've not even had Halloween yet, that's another month away.
Or bonfire night.

TheCountessOlenska · 28/08/2012 15:53

YANBU - it's irritating. I love Christmas, but not till December at which point I will do my shopping in the dark whilst drink mulled wine.

TheCunningStunt · 28/08/2012 15:56

Mmmmmmnn mulled wine.

cardibach · 28/08/2012 15:59

I don;t get the 'shop now to spread the cost' argument. Why not just save the money you would have spent stupidly early in advance so you can do it properly at, you know, CHristmas time.
It is banned in my house until the end of Novenber.

Liketochat1 · 28/08/2012 15:59

Yanbu. People who talk of Christmas must have little in their lives in between! It's months away. I like Christmas well enough... In december!

mignonette · 28/08/2012 16:00

Love Christmas but hate the fact that products are in store already- Cancer research shop had Christmas cards in ten days ago!

worldcitizen · 28/08/2012 16:03

Agree, with last posters.

So in case people forgot or never cared what Christmas is actually about and what it stands for, so the end of the church day cycle and all those important remaining days such as Day of repentance or All Saints Day wouldn't matter to them, well at least yes, maybe enjoy preparing for Thanksgiving or Halloween or Bonfire night or whatever....

It makes Christmas preparation nothing more than an extension of those who want to get rid of their products, almost like a prep for an end-of-year sale Grin

worldcitizen · 28/08/2012 16:05

The end of the church YEAR cycle I meant to say Smile

scarletforya · 28/08/2012 16:07

YANBU....thinking about Christmas in Summer is like fantasising about being in hell while actually being in Paradise! WEIRD!!! WEIRD
