to shamelessly boast about my daughter?

She's 19 and very clever and chatty and wonderful and has AS. She applied for a part-time job with a local council as a 'mother tongue teacher' (Basically all children are entitled to a certain number of hours tuition in the native language). I thought she was wasting her time because she is only 19 (although been a brownie leader since 12), but they invited her for interview Shock.

The interview went terribly she said. They expressed surprise at her age, surprise at her lack of experience, kept going on about another candidate and how good she was, and it she was back out the door in 10 minutes. :(

They just phoned. She got the job and made her mum cry.

Aw you can boast as much as you want - thats fab for her!! Congratulations Grin

Bossybritches22 · 27/08/2012 09:18

Brilliant -boast away, it's fully justified!

Well done not-so MiniLaddkaka!!

diddl · 27/08/2012 09:18

Well done her.

I can´t help thinking why the surprise if they´d already seen her CV?

Doesn´t sound very professional of them.

Surprise that she was better than they thought?
(Although that´s also not good from them)

TeaDr1nker · 27/08/2012 09:19

Well done her

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 27/08/2012 09:19

Oh good for her. I bet she's lovely. I'm always impressed by teen helpers at Cubs/brownies.

ditavonteesed · 27/08/2012 09:22

welll done your dd, you must be bursting with pride. :)

honeytea · 27/08/2012 09:22

Congratulations to her! I do the same job and I love it!

If she is looking for teaching materials I find the websites superteacherworksheets great for the older kids and the website kidzclub great for dagis kids.

Yanbu to be very proud :)

bananaistheanswer · 27/08/2012 09:22

That is excellent. Well done her. And you!

(gives me hope dd2 might sometime get somewhere. thanks)

Kladdkaka · 27/08/2012 09:30

diddl I don't think the people interviewing had seen the cv. I think the shortlist was drawn up by personel and the interviews done by some headteachers.

honeytea thank you so much, I'll pass them on to her. She's very excited and is already rummaging through my old brownie boxes looking for stuff she can use.

Thank you everyone for all the wellwishes, I am so bursting with pride at the moment. We've had a terrible few months (dad/grandad passed away) and this is just the boost we needed.

Wow of course you can. My dd5 has just been dx as ASD and cannot cope in a mainstream, environment. I just feel so down that she might not lead a normal life, get a job, qualifications, partner etc. this has given me hope for the future. Thanks very much for sharing Smile

pigletmania · 27/08/2012 09:33

Meant in a mainstream school environment, she will be going to a school for Autism in september

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 27/08/2012 09:35

piglet

I remember your previous posts about your daughter. I really hope she'll be happy and secure in an environment which suits her needs

Kladdkaka · 27/08/2012 09:37

In a way, I think her AS helped her. She's not like other 19 year olds, she's more ... serious and there's an innocence which is very obvious. Emotionally she's very young, but she doesn't party, socialise etc like her peers. She also doesn't really grasp her limitations, hence applying for the job in the first place. It doesn't occur to her that there are things she can't do. :o

feeling a bit teary here. I love hearing about people's teenagers (son about to go to Senior school - bit emotional)

MammaTJisanOlympicSumoWrestler · 27/08/2012 09:39

Brilliant!! Well done to her.

pigletmania · 27/08/2012 09:40

How horrid of them though telling her this, this is something that they should have kept to themselves

pigletmania · 27/08/2012 09:41

Thanks Jamie, I know it's the right decision, even thogh dd wants to go back to her old school

pigletmania · 27/08/2012 09:44

Kladdaka that's a good thing though, it's good that she has self confidence to apply for those jobs, why not, hey and she got it as well? Som adults don't like partying, or socialising so bigge, she is only 19, in time she might be more hardened to the world

chocoluvva · 27/08/2012 09:44

I bet the kids she works with will love her and be very impressed with her (relative to the other teachers) youth :)

EnjoyResponsibly · 27/08/2012 09:45

If you can't boast about that Klad what can you?

Well done DD, I hope you really enjoy your new job.

fuzzpig · 27/08/2012 09:47

Yay! Fab news kladdkaka :)

CanoeSlalom · 27/08/2012 09:47
