to get a cleaner

MrsKeithRichards · 26/08/2012 13:26

2 hours a week, £16.

We're hardly flush but could manage this. I'm failing badly. I am of work just now, maternity leave. I can get straightened up fine but haven't vacuumed the stairs in weeks.

I'd like a cleaner to mop, Hoover, change beds, dust and put clothes away. And clean bathroom.

Is that what they do?

I'm just a lazy bitch eh?

YADNU.
I have had a cleaner for years, even when on maternity leave.
They will do whatever you ask them to do ( within reasonGrin)
Be warned, however, once you have one you'll never be able to go back to not having one.

HecateHarshPants · 26/08/2012 13:29

I think they do whatever you agree that they will do.

Your list sounds reasonable.

It's not something you can be reasonable or unreasonable about. You have the right to get a cleaner if that's what you want and it's got sod all to do with anyone else, so it doesn't matter what we think Grin Sod us! Wink

I am a lazy bitch. Grin and proud of it

MrsKeithRichards · 26/08/2012 13:30

I couldn't tell my mum or sister's. They'd freak!!

YANBU. It's up to you.

Viviennemary · 26/08/2012 13:31

Well I have had a weekly or twice weekly cleaner in the past but I don't now that I'm not working. But what I would recommend is having a blitz once a month. Some firms send two cleaners and I think that's more value for money. Most don't change beds from what I know.

McHappyPants2012 · 26/08/2012 13:32

I would add to that list and clean the kitchen cupboards, skirting boards, rails and coving.

McHappyPants2012 · 26/08/2012 13:33

Also in the current economic climate I think it is good you are planning to employ someone :)

Bossybritches22 · 26/08/2012 13:36

I struggle financially & recently had an accident & was also diagnosed with depression-the house was/is a tip.

A friend started her cleaning business & comes over 2 hours a week & we chat & do stuff together as we go. House is still a tip but it's a lot cleaner under the mess & I'm gradualy getting back on top of things.

Really can't afford her but can't afford to do without for my Mental Health so it's an investment as far as I'm concerned! I don't buy wine regularly any more & I don't smoke or go out so it's my "treat".

I feel guilty sometimes but then I think "soddit".

YANBU! Grin

Do it. It's made a huge difference for me and would recommend it to anyone. I cancelled my lovefilm account and cut down on a few other expenses to pay for it and much prefer having a cleaner.

MrsKeithRichards · 26/08/2012 13:41

Oh I really want one to change my bed!

Do it! I just got one as I've a newborn and want coping at all. She is wonderful and does change the bed. Not a waste of money and removes unnecessary stress.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 26/08/2012 13:51

Oh I love my cleaner.

She comes for 4 hours once a fortnight, and she hoovers, dusts, de-cobwebs, cleans skirtings/mirrors/paintwork, bathroom and kitchen are spotless and mops the hard floors. Each visit she pulls the furniture out in one room and does behind and underneath it.
Then she takes away my ironing pile and brings it back all ironed and on hangers later that day (another 1-1.5 hours depending on how much there is).

Do it, you won't regret it.

Camusfearna · 26/08/2012 13:54

If it would help you and you can afford it, absolutely no reason why not to. I'm a firm believer in making life easier if you can.

I'd love a cleaner, but my house is way too untidy to let anyone see it - I'll have to tidy it up before I get one!

McHappyPants2012 · 26/08/2012 14:31

Cam my friend who does house cleaning will do a deep clean of a clients house first it normally takes 4 hours or more, it is still the same per hour.

Some people just want the deep clean service.

MrsKeithRichards · 26/08/2012 14:40

Deep clean sounds good! What would that involve?

OP posts:
coffeeandwine · 26/08/2012 14:45

My old cleaner used to change sheets. This doesn't, but then tbf, I haven't asked her to. No harm asking someone if they'll change sheets.

Bossybritches22 · 26/08/2012 14:47

camus but that's the whole point, it makes you tidy up as I geel I'm paying her to clean not tidy so it gets me going. Grin

There will be nothing she hasn't seen before I can promise!

MrsKeithRichards · 26/08/2012 15:05

I was thinking it might have that affect. I'd have to clear the floor etc for her coming.

OP posts:
Alibabaandthe40nappies · 26/08/2012 15:07

camus - I have a huge tidy before my cleaner comes, and then it looks like a show home briefly when she is finished.

I love the place being tidy but I don't know if I would have the self discipline to keep on top of the tidying like I do if I was doing the cleaning myself.

MrsKeithRichards · 26/08/2012 15:12

Do you go out when the cleaner is in?

OP posts:
Binkybix · 26/08/2012 15:13

My husband wanted one and I held out for ages as I thought there were better things to spend money on. In our case, I was wrong! The thing we are often short of is time and now we get more of that and fewer rows over who needs to do what. DO IT!!

DontmindifIdo · 26/08/2012 15:22

YANBU - I love my cleaners!

Don't tell your mum or sister, I was similar about my parents (the would beat most of the competitive poverty/living off £2.50 a week people on here easily).

My cleaners come in on one of the days I work, but if I'm ever off on a Tuesday, I make a point of going out - I don't think they like me being in anyway. Do you have any baby groups/classes you go to weekly? You could arrange for them to come in at that time so you've got an excuse to be out anyway.

One thing though, I do find on a Monday night I'm running round like a headless chicken tidying things away so the surfaces are clear for them to clean!
