Put on a collar and tie to do the shopping at Tesco....

Think that beige socks and brown sandals is acceptable footwear at any time of year....

Eat Werthers Originals......

Think that taking 12 strands of 5 inch long hair from one ear to the other then plastering to my shiny pate with god knows what takes 20 years off me and actually looks anything other than ridiculous....

Wear a Polo shirt three sizes too small and tuck it into my jeans with the brown leather belt pulled three inches too tight, cutting off the circulation to both legs (my DF's favourite dress code for every outing)

Think that a trip to a garden centre is a 'really lovely day out'

Become a racist, homophobic git......

Any one with any more fears for old age??

When I grow old....
I shall start a flat share for retired disreputable goths. (That'll scare the neighbours)

PS: huge swathes of humanity are lumped together and (gently) mocked for the sake of humour:
Children
Goths
Geeks
People who live in social housing
Students
Random folk who live near Chester and have a worryingly low average age and a worryingly high chance of being murdered/Blown up/dropping dead for no adequately explored reason.

I'm sure you can add to the list and guess which TV programmes I'm talking about.

It's how observational humour works. There is always an element of truth to the original premise, but no-one believes real-life actually works like that.

balotelli · 26/08/2012 11:12

Thanks Ruby.

Can I sign up for your retirement village? Not a Goth but Punk/New Romantic and still listening to same music now I'm 50 though cant do Mohawk (bald) and the eyeliner doesnt go well with the wrinkles and crows feet!! Still love Green Day, The Vaccines ETC love going to gigs and festivals. Off to see Spiritulized next week.

Unfortunatley it seems as you log onto MN you lose a sense of Humour. I have no problem with people laughing at me, if it makes them happy then thats ok with me. I have never taken myself seriously. I get it from my DM who when lying in hospital dying had us all told off by staff for laughing so much, she was awesome to the end and taught me to laugh at almost everything in life.... tis often the only way to survive it.

Ah I see, anyone who finds your original post rude and disrespectful has to have had a sense of humour failure.......Hmm

Sorry to disappoint, no sense of humour failure here, just the same anger as I had last night at the thought of you taking the piss out of someone like my dad for the way he dresses and the places he goes. I stand by what I said last night, you should be ashamed of yourself for what you wrote.

SoleSource · 26/08/2012 11:47

Not beable to afford cosmetic surgery still be fat, not ever struggle for money or have ill health.

mirry2 · 26/08/2012 11:49

I agree with you ladymariner and hobnob. Whay are some people so disrespectful towards older people?
If there was a similar thread targetting, say, single parents, the disabled or ethnic minorities there would be uproar and quite rightly so.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 26/08/2012 13:38

My sense of humor works just fine when things are genuinely funny.

Zara1984 · 26/08/2012 13:47

On a serious note, I hope I never turn into my toxic and racist parents.

On a happier note, I hope I never feel out of touch with technology. I also hope I always have some kind of work to do/engage with. The classic vision of retirement sounds like my idea of a nightmare. I hope I can keep travelling!

I plan on living to 100+ Grin

higgle · 26/08/2012 13:57

YABU

higgle · 26/08/2012 13:59

Sorry, posted on the wrong thread! My own wishes for old age are that I continue to live in the present - too many older people seem to live with a rose tinted spectacle view of the past.

diddl · 26/08/2012 13:59

I love that some men still bother to wear a shirt & tie every day.

My mum, if dressed casually in the house, always had to get changed to go into town.

Perhaps a lot of people don´t have enough respect for themselves & others any more.

TheBigJessie · 26/08/2012 14:04

I hope that no-one will get upset with me for daring to look at or even touch a baby's hand.

I hope I will not start voting BNP.

I hope I retain the ability to read instructions.

mirry2 · 26/08/2012 14:24

Thebigjessie, are you suggesting that older people are more likely to vote BNP?

QuintessentialShadows · 26/08/2012 15:22

In all honesty. Your OP reads like a bad caricature of some elderly (your father perhaps) and to me seem quite judgemental and horrible. (Did not stop me from posting, though)

I think you might make the classic mistake of laughing as much of other people as you profess to laugh of yourself.

Laughing at other people, and having fun at the expense of people who may be old, frail, confused, have alzheimers, nobody to care for them, is pretty horrible, as well as laughing at what the like to eat and do for a nice day out.

You seem to be totally ignorant of the problems and issues facing people who get old.

I bet you would not care if somebody laughs at a 50 year old new romantic goth wannabee jigging along at festivals, but others might... Wink

TheBigJessie · 26/08/2012 16:16

No, don't think so.

But thanks for asking, instead of assuming.

Why, do you think they are? Have you seen a study that suggests they are the BNP's main source of votes? Sounds interesting, but I don't see how such a study could be ethically conducted. Votes are conducted secretly, or are supposed to be.

mirry2 · 26/08/2012 16:34

Big Jessie. I haven't assumed anything. I was asking you because you said 'I hope I will not start voting BNP' on a thread about older people.

MrsHelsBels74 · 26/08/2012 16:36

Wear slacks

MrsHelsBels74 · 26/08/2012 16:37

Oops I didn't read the whole thread & it looks like we've gone way past the light hearted manner that I read the OP in Blush

TheBigJessie · 26/08/2012 16:58

No, the middle sentence is literal. I was thanking you for checking what I meant. The rest of the post was, however, unnecessarily snide. I was venting my annoyance on an innocent victim. Let's just say my mother has developed "interesting" views on Jews recently. I won't repeat the things my parents have said here.

minikimmi · 26/08/2012 17:01

My wee papa still wears a shirt and tie whenever he leaves the house, and yes this does sometimes involve a trip to the supermarket. I think it's charming. So many men I know are so scruffy and lacking in personal grooming.

TheBigJessie · 26/08/2012 17:12

I would like more well-dressed elderly people in supermarkets, and less young people wearing flesh coloured leggings. Also, less men wearing falling-down trousers. I think I might have caused one to pull his trousers up last week though. He turned around, and caught me smirking at his underwear. He pulled his trousers up very fast indeed!

QuintessentialShadows · 26/08/2012 17:15

I just want to see less belly buttons, but cracks, and bad hairstyles.

TheBigJessie · 26/08/2012 17:36

Less cute babies. It makes me want one, and I don't want one. Honest!

Less mid-twenties women wearing clothes that are too small. There is nothing wrong with their figures. They are perfectly attractive women in the peak of life, and they should buy size 10 clothes that will showcase them. Not size 6-8 ones that don't fit. Sad

mirry2 · 26/08/2012 18:13

sorry to be pedantic but it's 'fewer', not 'less'

TheBigJessie · 26/08/2012 18:24

No apology necessary. I really need to stop mixing those two up.
