Put on a collar and tie to do the shopping at Tesco....

Think that beige socks and brown sandals is acceptable footwear at any time of year....

Eat Werthers Originals......

Think that taking 12 strands of 5 inch long hair from one ear to the other then plastering to my shiny pate with god knows what takes 20 years off me and actually looks anything other than ridiculous....

Wear a Polo shirt three sizes too small and tuck it into my jeans with the brown leather belt pulled three inches too tight, cutting off the circulation to both legs (my DF's favourite dress code for every outing)

Think that a trip to a garden centre is a 'really lovely day out'

Become a racist, homophobic git......

Any one with any more fears for old age??

I will always care what colour/style my trousers are. If they are comfy, that's just a plus.

CMOTDibbler · 25/08/2012 21:32

I'd hope to be treated with dignity, and to be seen as the person I am, not the illnesses I have.
Alas my mum is 73 and has dementia, and dad is 77 and v frail, and I wish they were up to a trip to a garden centre these days

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 25/08/2012 21:34

So often I speak to old people who despite living in places where they should expect care and respect are treated as objects to be fed and cleaned. Often chatting with them reveals a fascinating life story of loves, careers, families and tragedy. So often their individuality and value to society is overlooked Sad

Marshy · 25/08/2012 21:35

But being age-ist is ok, obviously.

Sorry for sense of humour failure - my mum has just gone into a nursing home after a traumatic few weeks. She used to be beautiful and vibrant and now needs looking after. I'm glad her carers are more respectful than the OP

Cynner · 25/08/2012 21:37

My great nan and her sister were off to church, having a nice chat, and drove into a ditch.. Nan forgot she was driving...
So I hope I will never drive into ditch whilst chatting with my sister...

Cynner · 25/08/2012 21:40

I hope I never get to be burden to my family, or forgetten by them either..

monsterchild · 25/08/2012 21:43

I hope that I don't have my dead cat stuffed and sitting on the sofa...

Or my Dh for that matter!

balotelli · 25/08/2012 21:44

I work with the elderly and they are awesome. So many have lived such amazingly hard lives the like of which we will never suffer. I have the utmost respect for them and treat them all the way I would have wanted my mother treated but.......

I will never have a knitted cover on a box of tissues on the back shelf of my car or a sofa cushion in my car.......

wear a vest in the summer..... or ever for that matter

think that Bridlington is the ultimate holiday destination when I only live 20 miles away.....

I hope I won't become intolerant and judgemental of other's choices

I'm looking forward to:
wearing footwear purely on the basis of comfort

Holidaying during term time (bliss)

MrsKeithRichards · 25/08/2012 21:47

Talk about an ex as 'someone I used to run about with'

Moan about kids playing.

Go swimming and keep my hair dry.

Allalonenow · 25/08/2012 21:48

....I will never wear a vest.
....I will never drink cheap champagne or wear cheap perfume.
....I will never wear false teeth, or stop painting my nails.

....I will never stop feeling glad that I have seen another year of snowdrops and daffodils.
....I will never stop learning something new each day.
....I will never stop making allowances for young people, because they have difficult complicated lives.

Cynner · 25/08/2012 21:54

On the other hand, I can't wait to wear holiday themed jumpers..

nankypeevy · 25/08/2012 21:59

don't be daft.

I've just turned 40, and feel exactly the same as I did when I was 17. Inside. Clearly, there are a coupla external differences.

My grandma's just turned 92. She's pissed off that every time she looks in the mirror there's some old woman looking back at her. In her head, she's 17.

If I am half as vibrant and have half her lust for life (and half her ability to be inappropriate with men young enough to be her grandson) when I am half her age - I'll be pretty impressed with myself.

I am quite sure that, if you are lucky enough to get to be elderly, you will just become a concentrated version of yourself.

But, I expect you'll probably need a bigger size in your judgy pants.

controlpantsandgladrags · 25/08/2012 22:00

I like to think that by the time I'm old I will have earned the right to do whatever the fuck I like.

I know you're post is tongue in cheek, but I really don't like it.

Vagaceratops · 25/08/2012 22:01

Werthers Originals toffee are luvverley!

squoosh · 25/08/2012 22:02

I can't wait to have a string of beaus that I 'walk out ' with. To afternoon tea raves and the like . . . .

FrillyMilly · 25/08/2012 22:04

I hope I still feel 17 inside but don't attempt to look 17 on the outside. I don't want people to visibly recoil when I turn round because they expected me to be much younger. I envisage myself to be dressed in a classic Chanel number rather than beige though

PrideOfChanur · 25/08/2012 22:05

Actually when I am old I will try to keep in mind the fact that shops are open all the time and I don't have to shop every Monday morning, without fail....particularly if the alternative on offer is a visit from my DD,who can only come over on Monday morning! (My dad)

Nanny0gg · 25/08/2012 22:07

If anyone can tell me where to find stylish clothes for the over-60s man, who does not have the body of a Greek god (not even in his youth) and who looks ridiculous in jeans, I would be very grateful.

And our local garden centres have really good restaurants.

NoComet · 25/08/2012 22:17

Beige!

My Dear Nan used to wear beige from head to foot, clothes, tights, shoes and mac. She also had pale skin and thinning beige hair. Honestly she was 100% beige.

Eventually my DSIS and I nagged her so much she bought a black skirt, tights and shoes and a bright teal blouse (1980's).

The transformation was amazing she looked at least 10 years younger and much smilier somehow.

She never did return to beige, at least when we visited. So I think she didn't mind our moaning.

I suspect she was very pretty when she was young and slipped into housewifery beige because that's just what you did as you got older. Flashy dressing was for dress shop owning DNice not her.

DSIS and I managed to nag our

Halfling · 25/08/2012 22:21

I hope that when I am old I can speak my bloody mind all the time and wear whatever catches my fancy. I think that is the privilige of being older. I am quite looking forward to it.

Floggingmolly · 25/08/2012 22:23

You probably will, you know. All those wrinklies were your age once...

biffnbuster · 25/08/2012 22:23

pop socks with a skirt ....

startwig1982 · 25/08/2012 22:31

... Be lonely. I used to work in a nursing home and some of the residents never got a visit from friends or family. Absolutely heartbreaking. I used to go and read/chat to them when I had time.

mirry2 · 25/08/2012 22:35

I hope I'm not the target of patronising remarks based on my age
