People who don't vaccinate their bloody children?
My child has Measles.
He is fully up to date with all his vaccinations. How is this bloody fair? It was virtually unheard of until this business a few years ago when everyone suddenly decided not to vaccinate.
Well thanks a lot!!!! AND NOW LOOK!!!! I'M ABUSING EXCLAMATION MARKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not happy.

Poor guy. :( Hope he gets better soon.

KenLeeeeeee · 24/08/2012 16:03

I proper a group fish-throwing at Andrew Wakefield, the pillock "doctor" behind the study suggesting links between autism & the MMR.

KenLeeeeeee · 24/08/2012 16:04

*propose, not proper

griphook · 24/08/2012 16:06

I really didn't want my ds1 to have the mmr, ( no fish throwing as he has) but wanted him to have the singles. But I couldn't as the mumps one is unavailible.

I read a few articles as you stated and it scared the crap out of me. The thing that changed my mind was a u tube video by penn and teller. That really put it in perspective

Is there anyone who can help you?

Littleprincessrocks · 24/08/2012 16:19

Mango - It is egg, but quite severe. The consultant and GP can't agree on if it is safe. I want him to have it done, but on the peadiatric ward / clinic, so should anything go wrong he is in the best equipt place to get the help he might need. I think that is a sensible solution and if everything is fine we will know for the booster dose.

But when a Dr tells you he shouldn't have it for his own safety, you have to listen to their rationale as to why.
I did ask her to contact the consultant and come to an agreement, but I haven't seen the GP or consultant since to see if that has happend.

MangoLangoTango · 24/08/2012 16:39

I understand your fear Littleprincess. DS got his at the surgery but I packed both his epipens and piriton and camped in the waiting room for half an hour after. He was fine, just angry at the nurse but easily placated with chocolate buttons.

Hope your DS gets better soon TheQueen. Might be worth ringing the GP surgery to let them know, as measles is a notifiable disease.

TheQueenOfDiamonds · 24/08/2012 16:51

Griphook - My brother is around somewhere, he nipped out earlier but should be back soon so he can help me walk the dogs. It's just the horse he can't help me with because he doesn't have anything to do with horses and i've a fiesty 15.3 4yr old sportshorse. If i get desperate i will walk down there with DS when everyones gone and just go straight to the field and avoid the yard (The field he is in and the yard are a 10 minute walk apart and i don't have to go through the yard to get to it so no danger of bumping into pregnant lady, or my friend there who has a weak immune system and works with old people).

The weather seems to be holding up so it looks like they will all be out for tonight at least, just have to keep my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Littleprincessrocks · 24/08/2012 16:57

Mango - the GP will not let him have it done at the surgery - she made that very clear.
As soon as they agree he is safe to have it, he will.
I was told he could have it done on the paediatric assessment unit, which I think is the best option. Then he has had it, and he will be safer.
I am glad your DC had it and was ok :)

Moominsarescary · 24/08/2012 17:20

That's the other problem, less people having it done and younger children not yet old enough to have the MMR are catching measles.

Hope your ds is ok, it must be horrible when there so little and can't tell you if it's bothering them

Debeez · 24/08/2012 17:23

Your DS is beautiful Queen, I hope this passes quickly for you and with as little discomfort to him as possible.

droves · 24/08/2012 17:28

Oh dear , hope your ds gets better soon , and at least has a very mild case of measles . Poor wee chap , it's awful .

Sad

Some children can't be vaccinated , for medical reasons . I get why your upset , obviously you've tried your best to prevent your ds catching measles . It's unlucky that he did .

Remember lots of fluids and calpol for the tempreture , keep the blinds down ...measles can make their little eyes sensitive to light . ( had it as a child because I'm old and we didn't have jabs for it back in the day ) .

Hope he's better soon x

SoleSource · 24/08/2012 17:41

Yadnbu sending speedy recovery best wishes x

Astr0naut · 24/08/2012 17:45

It's one of the reasons I'm glad I'm not having any more children. There have been outbreaks of mumps and measles at my (secondary) school and it's nice to know that I don't have to be worried by the next one.

However, dd is only 9 months and starting nursery soon, and I do worry aboutsiblings in school. We're N wales and kind of in teh middle of the recent measles outbreaks.

TheQueenOfDiamonds · 24/08/2012 17:46

Lol, Oh lovely, Just found messages on OHs facebook to his mate on about 'did you get in touch with that girl' [just after a night out sooo bit obvious what all thats about].

He's at cream fields [same friend] apparently its going to be knee deep in clunge wtf do they think they are the inbetweeners?

I might as well fucking give up.

Bossybritches22 · 24/08/2012 17:50

The MMR might not have worked totally OP but he will have some immunity so hopefully it won't be as bad.

It's a myth that vaccination gives 100% immunity

Moominsarescary · 24/08/2012 17:53

Oh dear should we hunt him down and throw rotten fish at him instead

CouthyMow · 24/08/2012 17:55

How can he have been vaccinated at 10mo? The MMR is given at 12mo, not 10mo?

Surely he is unvaccinated as yet. Which is why here immunity is essential, to protect those who are unable to get vaccinated due to being too young, and those that can't be vaccinated for medical reasons.

Despite being severely concerned about the Autism links (now disproved), I still vaccinated my DC's, albeit 6 months Kate for first dose, and 9 months late for second dose, on the advice of my paed consultant at the time, so they were all still vaccinated.

DS3, 19mo today, hasn't had his MMR yet, on the advice of the dietician I was asked to hold off as he has severe, life threatening allergies, and we hadn't yet introduced egg to his diet, and the MMR vaccine is prepared in egg.

Now that we know he is not allergic to egg, his appointment for vaccination is next week.

OP, I am sorry that your young baby has measles.

CouthyMow · 24/08/2012 17:55

Here immunity = herd immunity. Bloody Autocorrect.

honeytea · 24/08/2012 18:06

I will join the fish throwing!

I was an unvaxed child and it makes me so angry! I went to the dr when i was about 22 and he had a go at me and asked me why I hadn't had my vaccinations.. well I don't know do I!

I had to delay IVF to have my rubella vaccine.

It's just silly silly selfish people that decide not to vaccinate in my opinion.

TheQueenOfDiamonds · 24/08/2012 18:11

He's at cream fields festival.
We don't get paid till tomorrow though and i have the my bank card, meant to be putting money in for him. He can fucking do one.

OP posts:
Moominsarescary · 24/08/2012 18:50

Have you spoken to him?

TheQueenOfDiamonds · 24/08/2012 18:58

No, i'm not wasting money ringing him. He's at cream fields (It's a music festival) if he can even get signal on his phone he wouldn't hear it in a million years. I've text him telling him to sort his own fucking money out.

My brothers not come back yet either so looks like dogs aren't getting walked. Early night for me when DS goes back down.

OP posts:
TheQueenOfDiamonds · 24/08/2012 19:00

He's left his keys here too lol he didn't want to lose them so asked me to keep hold of them.

OP posts:
TheQueenOfDiamonds · 24/08/2012 19:00

I shall be at the other farm when he gets back (No pregnant ladies at that one). He can sit around and wait for me for a change.

OP posts:
Debeez · 24/08/2012 19:07

Were the message to or from him?

Where in the country are you? Could any of us come pop round and give you a hand, even just walk the dogs? x
