To say read the whole thread

Especially when its on a sensitive subject - am intrigued as to why people don't read a whole thread before posting their opinion.

I always feel for those brave posters who post in AIBU and then accept they have been unreasonable and still get lots of posters commenting on their OP without having realised they've backtracked. I mean the OP's posts are even high lighted now so its easy to at the very least read their comments even if you skim over others.

if the threads are pages long then it can take a long time to plough through all the answers.

BlackberryIce · 22/08/2012 15:35

Yes, agree with Nancy

I suspect many others don't want to read loads of pages either..

Mrsjay · 22/08/2012 15:36

sometimes you reply to the OP and you are on page 10 sigh personally I think posts should be locked and ended if the Op has said ok i was wrong,

Ithinkitsjustme · 22/08/2012 15:36

I admit to normally reading the first 2 pages and then the last 2 pages and commenting more regarding those later posts than the original OP if it's very long. Otherwise I agree with you, in fact I tend to avoid threads that are more than a few pages anyway on the theory that the OP has already had enough advice and won't be reading the posts anymore.

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/08/2012 15:38

But surely on sensitive subjects you might at least skim the OP's comments - aren't they all high lighted for you - so even if a thread is long you just pick out those comments?

Ithinkitsjustme - I tend to do that too with regards to really long threads.

Mrsjay · 22/08/2012 15:42

I do try and sometimes i do come across a posters retraction or reaction but it can be hidden in the middle of page 6, I am quite a sensitive person so I would intentionally hurt anybodies feelings. I havnt anything on highlight how do you do that ?

BlackberryIce · 22/08/2012 15:44

In settings somewhere... Op posts on mine show in green and my own are pink

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/08/2012 15:44

Mrsjay if you go to customise and select mumsnet classic then all of the OP's posts on a thread are high lighted.

OP posts:
Mrsjay · 22/08/2012 15:45

Oh ok I didnt know that Blush

FunnysInLaJardin · 22/08/2012 15:45

YABU. Someone said the exact same thing last week. Was it you? It's almost word for word

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/08/2012 15:46

Umm no - sorry will try and spend more time on her so as not to duplicate threads as that really is unreasonable behaviour Wink

OP posts:
Tortington · 22/08/2012 15:48

I have only read the Op
yabu

LadyBeagleEyes · 22/08/2012 15:49

There was a thread about it last week, but it wasn't you.
I agreed then and I agree now.
If the thread is long, then skimming through the op's highlighted posts will get you the gist of it.

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/08/2012 15:51

Ooop sorry for duplication - was just prompted by reading another thread so yes its also a thread about a thread. I'll be banned soon at this rate.

BlackberryIce · 22/08/2012 16:01

Ooh why are you so touchy ?

Sawdust · 22/08/2012 16:02

Thanks for this thread OP - now I know how to highlight the OP's posts!

Sawdust · 22/08/2012 16:04

YANBU, by the way, but sometimes I guess people are in a rush or the subject matter makes them just want to say their piece without going through what has already been said. Annoying, yes, but it only wastes a few seconds reading time.

Ithinkitsjustme · 22/08/2012 16:08

I didn't know you could highlight op's posts either - you learn something everyday! Grin

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/08/2012 17:15

Touchy - golly this isn't touchy and I have served a useful purpose re. highlighting Smile

The banned bit was a joke - I thought that was obvious Smile

OP posts:
Nancy66 · 22/08/2012 17:17

i didn't know you could highlight

LookBehindYou · 22/08/2012 17:19

YANBU. Drives me nuts when people jump in without reading.

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/08/2012 17:21

You see I assumed everyone had the highlighting going on - this explains why so many people miss the OP's updates.

OP posts:
lovebunny · 22/08/2012 17:31

unreasonable.

the interesting bits are the o p and the response one wants to make to it - the rest is just a lot of people's opinions.

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/08/2012 17:35

What about though on a sensitive thread when more info is disclosed that really is pretty important or when the OP changes their mind?

I find other people's responses interesting too and quite often informative/ch

OP posts:
MrsCampbellBlack · 22/08/2012 17:35

Ooops pressed post too soon - I meant to add sometimes reading other people's responses changes my initial opinion.
