My trusty old BlackBerry is not longer trusty and is dying. Will I just look like a nerd or is it still a slick bit of kit. Is it too big?

hugandroll not true. I have normal hands and can reach all of it fine with one hand.

It takes a bit of practice but is doable

epeesarepointythings · 19/08/2012 18:12

I'm thinking about getting a smartphone, but to me it will be a toy and a gadget - for phone calls and texts I will continue using my ancient Nokia, with its enormous battery life, tiny size and incredibly cheap (less than £6 a month) contract.

One phone for work, another for play. My main criterion for a smart phone will be the quality of the camera, as I don't see the point of having a smartphone and a camera at the same time (and our digital camera has died).

peanutMD · 19/08/2012 18:12

You're not rebelling, the galaxy range is now outselling the apple range.

Almost everyone I know including me has varying galaxy models and they are fab but agree its huge!

TheWonderfulFanny · 19/08/2012 18:15

I've got the note which is even bigger, but then the thing I do least with my phone is make a phone call - I love my phablet Grin

Sallyingforth · 19/08/2012 18:18

We've just been looking at some HD videos I took at a party with the Samsung. They are really brilliant - better than some taken with a proper video camera.

ComeAlongPond · 19/08/2012 18:22

I have an HTC and I hate it - it is full of preinstalled apps that I don't want but I can't delete and every time I pick it up it says I'm running out of room and I need to delete some stuff, so apps I want and use have to go while tossing stock market tracker stays put. Would never, ever buy another one.

confusedpixie · 19/08/2012 18:23

hugs disagree hugs, I have normal hands and can use mine fine. They're only slightly bigger than iPhones Confused

And they're superior, as galaxy's have Swype Grin

confusedpixie · 19/08/2012 18:23

And amazing cameras.

claudedebussy · 19/08/2012 18:31

i have an s2 and dh has an s3.

we were old nokia diehards until they got the microsoft guy in and fucked everything up.

now i am totally sold on the samsung phones and will happily buy another.but i love my one so much i won't be doing that anytime soon.

claudedebussy · 19/08/2012 18:31

oooh and swype - yes. i can't do without it now. although it does sometimes come up with some wierd words Hmm

Softlysoftly · 19/08/2012 18:50

Haven't read it all but DH and I were Apple all the way, iPads macs and iPhones. DH got pissed off with IPhone as his emails kept failing and now has a Galaxy and he loves it.

Insists I convert on the next upgrade.

saintlyjimjams · 19/08/2012 19:06

What's the camera like on the samsung? I have a very cheap blackberrry but have been wanting to swap to an iPhone for the camera plus apps. We are a very apple heavy house but I'm happy to have a different system for a phone if it's better (I know the iPhone isn't meant to be a great phone).

peanutMD · 19/08/2012 19:08

Agree Swype is fab and sometimes provides good entertainment when it goes wrong :o

I once sent a text to DP asking him to book a days holiday for vaginas... I meant Cadonas otheme park) lol

BertieBotts · 19/08/2012 19:13

The S3 isn't that big - are you getting confused with the Galaxy Note chips? That really is massive Grin

The camera on the S3 is pretty nice.

frownyface · 19/08/2012 19:14

saintly, the camera is great and takes lots of pics quickly so you get the best shot

Kayano · 19/08/2012 19:15

It's too big for my midget hands. It's awkward to use

DH (the big beast) however loves it

frownyface · 19/08/2012 19:15

iv just been on hols i took my camrea and my samsung s3 and didnt end up using the camera at all as my mob is always to hand and the quuality is so good

kinkynagbag · 19/08/2012 19:36

ohhhh to the person who was talking bout the note 2.. i tried to get some infor from the phone guy and all he knew was that its going to be based on the galaxy 3.. and be bigger! (if thats possable, my dad has it and whilst it takes a while to get used to the size its still verry good esp if for business.)

TheWonderfulFanny · 19/08/2012 19:41

It's big enough I hardly ever bother switching on a laptop outside of work, but thin enough to sit happily in a pocket of my handbag. It's truly my favourite bit of kit these days :-)

saintlyjimjams · 19/08/2012 20:00

I've just keeled over at the price. What's the S2 like? Or can anyone recommend a particular Blackberry - esp for cameras? (My ten quid a month Blackberry's camera is crap, given the price I'm paying that's fair enough!)

saintlyjimjams · 19/08/2012 20:01

Although I do like the sound of the camera. Can you get apps like the instamatic thing that iphones have?

Dogsmom · 19/08/2012 20:15

Yes you can get apps, I've got a few including Instamatic, there are some really good editing ones (free) so you can cop/enhance your photos.

My hubby bought me a good digital camera for my birthday 2 years ago and the camera on my SII is equally as good on evrything except the zoom. There are so many functions on it, you can adjust the iso etc manually or choose from lots of scene settings, the 'backlit' option is great for sunset shots of the sun. On the iPhone there's no options at all, just flash on/off!

saintlyjimjams · 19/08/2012 20:20

Oh that does sound good..... hmm....

I have an SLR that needs a new lens, so a decent phone camera would be an ideal second camera iyswim...

DeathMetalMum · 19/08/2012 20:45

I went from my blackberry to a samsung galaxy w (slightly smaller, less powerfull cheaper etc) and I love it I could never go back to a blackberry again, and I really did love my blackberry.

IMO the s3 is slightly to big for me, but part of me also craves for it. You get a lot more free apps with an android, and it is so easier to use. I thought I would miss a keyboard but don't.

hugandroll · 19/08/2012 21:12

I must have really small hands as I struggle to reach all the iPhone screen Grin. Basically you need to get the phone that suits you and not everyone else.
