To give my two year old a ham sandwich?

i mean, really?! In her buggy as I wanted to get somewhere fast, she was eating a ham sandwich from tesco. Cue disapproving looks. Or maybe I'm just paranoid as ham causes cancer and is full of salt?

If a bit of ham is something to worry about in terms of salt/nitrates etc. then Italy's children (past, resent and future) are in deep trouble. Cos they seem to eat the stuff in industrial quantaties.

I know five mums who have bought their own electric "take up half the work top" ham slicing machines, so they can save money by buying hunks rather than pre sliced, given that their kids eat so much ham type stuff.

So come and live over here with me and enjoy a cat's bum mouth exclusion zone . Ham sandwich wise at least. but You can expect actual cluckings of disapproval if you let your child sweat, exit the house not dressed for the north pole on a nice spring day, or drink a drink from the fridge.

trinitybleu · 19/08/2012 11:04

Don't sweat it.

Caught DP allowing DD to have a Pot Noodle for breakfast last weekend. Everything in moderation!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/08/2012 11:07

So.. you needed to get somewhere fast, were giving your child something to eat - presumably in a rush - and you still had time - and inclination - to look around you and register disapproval from others.

Do you really think anybody would care to note that you even had a child, let alone the foodstuff, nevermind the contents of it?

I don't believe you, OP. Sorry...

JasperMama · 19/08/2012 11:10

I think the disapproving looks were from hungry people. Next time, take a stash of ham sandwiches to throw at them.

BulldogDrummond · 19/08/2012 11:12

The catsbum mouths were not because of what the OP's child was eating but because the DC was eating in public while going alone the road. Eating while walking along the road is an activity of which many disapprove. It's only the American fast food chains that have imported and promoted this practice because they have no manners themsleves and the reason that we have so much litter in town centres. One should eat in a restaurant, in a cafe or indoors anyway at your own house or someone else's.

uselfullife · 19/08/2012 11:20

No-one was giving you disapproving looks
You were being paranoid

uselfullife · 19/08/2012 11:21

It depresses me that people can think that others are that judgemental about this type of thing
Get a life, all of you

uselfullife · 19/08/2012 11:23

Fellationelson, I have pmt too

And this thread has really wound me up

NurseBernard · 19/08/2012 11:45

Who are you telling to get a life? We're all saying the OP is bonkers paranoid.

uselfullife · 19/08/2012 11:50

sorry, not necessarily everyone on this thread, but anyone out there that judges these type of things
or anyone that worries about people judging them for these type of things
or anyone that thinks these type of things
or anyone that thinks eating along the road should be forbidden

life is too short

bogeyface · 19/08/2012 11:56

Blimey, the nest is working itself up isnt it?

The OP was thinking she was getting filthy looks because of the contents of the sandwich, and was informed that a) ham is fine and b) giving your child food in its buggy is considered slightly worse than giving them a bag of cocaine to play with. No idea why this elicits such disapproval, but it does.

Why are you being such bitches? "This thread has really wound me up, get a life, oh for gods sake, I give up" Wtf is the point in posting any of that shit?!

uselfullife · 19/08/2012 12:03

first time I've been called a bitch
I'm no-one

sorry

uselfullife · 19/08/2012 12:06

in fact I think I should just give MN a wide berth today

sorry

Tee2072 · 19/08/2012 12:27

"It's only the American fast food chains that have imported and promoted this practice because they have no manners themselves".

I shall point out, once more, that the American fast food chains, and all things American, would never be adopted or succeed if the British did not want such things.

And, for the record, the first time I ever heard of someone eating while walking down the street was from my mother the first time she visited Paris. And I grew up in America.

So fuck off about Americans. I'm sick of the America bashing.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 19/08/2012 13:01

Two threads about eating outside the home?

Will we have one about going to the market without gloves on?
My hat doesn't match my handbag and my pinky has a stain

Oh wait, it's not 1950

Phew

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 19/08/2012 13:02

Pinny dammit PINNY!

Lookslikesnow · 04/10/2018 13:11

Get a grip!!!! Stop the paranoia! Omg! Thus is what happens when not very bright individuals get a little bit of information! It’s dangerous! Nitrates in ham cause cancer! Jesus H Christ you would have to be eating it day in day out alongside a mountain of other absolute crap! And even then it might yes might cause you cancer! I hate parents going on about how healthy their kids eat compared to others so called neglected Greggs pasty goers! It’s food! At least we can feed our children on this country! For now! I love Greggs! Wouldn’t want to have it every day and o doubt anyone ever does but people just need to stop with the bulkshit guilt tripping! That’s what causes eating disorders! Obsessing about what one is eating and what others eat and how much! Cravings happen for a reason, it’s your body way of telling you what you need! Not the same as eyes bigger than belly syndrome! Real cravings! Sometimes you crave good sometimes so called bad but it balances out and so it’s all going to be ok! Life is for bloody living! If someone ever commented on what I was feeding my kids I’d simply say ‘go get yourself a life!’

Lethaldrizzle · 04/10/2018 13:13

I'm sure no-one was judging you

Padparadscha · 04/10/2018 13:23

Lookslikesnow, hope that rant was worth bringing up a thread that’s 5 years old Hmm. I’m sure the kid is out of the pram now and happily eating ham sandwiches wherever and whenever. Oh and stop abusing your poor exclamation mark button, no need to shout, dear.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 04/10/2018 13:27

Lookslikesnow how the fuck did you even find this thread?!
