to not want to do this?

It's my birthday on Sunday. I can be a bit awkward about presents - not because I want particular things but because there is nothing I really want. I would honestly rather people just said happy birthday and made me feel a bit special than get something which I don't want or need. If someone wants to give me a present I feel I am easy - I love bath things and chocolates stuff I will use/eat and not clutter up the house.

However, my husband wants to get me the perfect present. It's nice of him of course but he starts to torture me weeks before. "What do you want? What do you want?" This goes on. I see he wants to get me something nice so I told him I would like some perfume and am quite happy to go shopping with him to get it (before my birthday - no shopping on my birthday I have been there before, it's depressing.)

Last night he starts saying I don't know what to get you, there is one thing I think you will like or another that would have to be joint christmas and birthday what do you think? Well with that information I can't really make a decision, can I? I say that if I was getting a joint present I would rather have it on christmas morning. Oh, he says, I got my laptop as soon as you bought it! Yes, because you wanted it, I would rather wait but hey it doesn't seem to be my choice.

The next thing he says is I have ordered it and can you take me to get it on friday (he can't drive so I need to take him anywhere not walking distance, even if there is a bus usually). Ok... he finishes work at 10am so thats fine I think we'll be going to the next town 30 mins away. No, he can only get it a 1 hour 40 minute drive away! What? It would be lunchtime when we get there. Its the arse end of nowhere so nothing to do/see and then 1 hour 40 minutes back again. With our 3 year old.

Seriously when I don't even care what I get this is really stressing me out! I have said we will go because he obviously thinks whatever he is getting me is great but I really don't want to. AIBU?

Cunny that cider is quite nice. But you do know you can get them at three for £5 in most supermarkets and he only gave you two, so he may have actually drunk a part of your present himself.

At least you know where to get him a nice ice-cream maker for Christmas. Grin

Comma I do love strawberry and lime cider, but I love the Kopperburg one, and he got me the Rekorderlig one which isn't as nice, he doesn't like it so they won't have been on offer at the time.

I do hope he liked his christmas present. . . . :o

Bumping to find out what this mysterious birthday present was! [nosey emoticon]

I hope this isn't going to be one of those threads where the OP never comes back and just leaves us all hanging :(

Hello! I'm back sorry for the lack of update.

Well after I told him that I had posted here and maybe was being a tiny bit unreasonable Wink he gave me a choice - I either drove hime to get it or he could have it delivered and it would come after my birthday. So I said I would just have it after.

I've now got it and it's a Blackberry Playbook! I have to say I love it so I was probably being v unreasonable. Sorry it took so long to come back but I wanted to wait to let you know what it was.

I should say I gave him driving lessons for his 21st birthday (a loong time ago) and he never used them so I am resigned to driving.

How funny. I am always so uncomfortable about presents. I like to be thougth about but the pressure is hard to take. OH really wants to get me something that he came up with himself and that I really really like. He's wonderful, thoughtful, best OH ever, he has supplied me fully with all the technological gadgets I could ever require!

LadyBeagleEyes · 21/08/2012 20:44

Thanks for the update witchface.
I'm still upset that it wasn't a puppy though.

Nice present witchface, I'm really glad it's something you do like. Grin

You started a really interesting conversation in my house. I was informed that the things I usually ask for (new dressing gown, tub of plants for the deck, hot water bottle with fluffy cover) aren't appropriate as they are part of the running costs of having a woman (as are clothes, foodstuffs, bathing products, flowers and perfume - not that I get any of those as a regular feature). I must therefore be bought something I haven't requested. The mere fact that the proffered presents are things DH would like and I wouldn't is irrelevant.

Before you all yell " leave the bastard" we haven't laughed so much in ages and I might actually get something I like for my birthday now!
