I'm a late-30s Caucasian male from the burbs.

I didn't think you were Wolf Smile

My ds would get on well with you, he's 12. we have just come back from a holiday where the resort staff were constantly high fiving the children and he thinks it's the most ridiculous and pointless thing ever. But he has aspergers so doesn't get it.

Personally, I think the high five is over used. There are a few situations that call for one, but not many.

FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 16/08/2012 18:47

Wouldn't do it with a grown up! That'd be lame, but it's great when your LO learns their first secret handshake and can do it on command whenever they want.

Yy, Olympic high fives were everywhere.

My own personal highlight of the games was when a ploiceman tried to high five my three year old and she looked at him like he was Gary Glitter and walked by leaving him hanging.

No dammit

YouBloodyWolf · 16/08/2012 19:12

There are few things more excruciating than seeing someone left hanging from a high five. Maybe that happened to me once and I've just been afraid of the rejection ever since.

Excruciating if it's you who's left hanging.

Hilarious if it's someone else.

BulldogDrummond · 16/08/2012 19:28

I don't see the point of yet another Americanism that has infiltrated its way into this country. If someone offers me a hand held up high, I offer my hand in the 'propose to shake hands' position. The other person then shakes.

FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 16/08/2012 19:31

You suck bulldog

yellowraincoat · 16/08/2012 19:31

Yes, Bulldog, imagine if we absorbed customs and words from other countries. That would be horribly un-British except for how it wouldn't be.

FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 16/08/2012 19:34

Yeah ^^ that's what I meant.

And you suck.

Don't leave a brother hanging.

mayorquimby · 16/08/2012 19:35

I've dished out so many high 5's today.
Also my new gym has a fist bump culture. Everyone just constantly throwing out fist bumps and offering encouragement, it's very odd but kind of cool.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 16/08/2012 19:36

I find high fives a bit cringey. I've taught DS to fist bump and say Boom! But he knows we're being ironic, so it's okay.

Olympicpark · 16/08/2012 19:41

yellow my main method of positive behaviour management has been and will continue to be high fiving excellent answers and good tries !!!! My lot love it!

tethersend · 16/08/2012 19:42

Every time I'm forced to give a high five, a part of me dies inside.

MagicLlamaStrikesBack · 16/08/2012 19:42

We have a special high five too.

High five
Low five
Side five
Fist bump and say "game on"

But then we are cool

Foshizzle · 16/08/2012 19:45

I high five toddlers only. Anyone else tries it they can watch me side step and dodge, Matrix style.

clippityclop · 16/08/2012 19:45

Stupid American habit. I'm not American therefore do not partake

Olympicpark · 16/08/2012 19:46

foshizzle can feel the swish of your black leather coat..

EclecticShock · 16/08/2012 19:48

Agree... Don't be a spoil sport.

usualsuspect · 16/08/2012 19:49

I've never high five anyone in my life.

usualsuspect · 16/08/2012 19:49

EclecticShock · 16/08/2012 19:49

What do you want? A kiss or a handshake...

Foshizzle · 16/08/2012 19:51

Olympic Grin

squeakytoy · 16/08/2012 19:51

It doesnt bother me if it is with my mates and we are having a laugh, or if it is with young kids, but I would be a bit Hmm if a salesman in a shop tried it, or someone I didnt really know..
