Olympic closing ceremony - was it really posh spice and if so why did they hardly put her in shot. I thought it may be a double hence no close-ups. What do you reckon?

As far as I remember, there was a spice girls concert towards the end of their time together where Victoria got really spooked because someone shone a laser gun at her and the security team took it really seriously thinking someone was aiming a gun at her.

This was quite close to the time that there was also the thwarted kidnapping attempt as well. To be honest, after all that, I think she has the right to be uncomfortable on stage...

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 13/08/2012 09:05

Oasis didn't play last night! They are no more!

Noel left Oasis. Oasis ended. Oasis were Noel's band. Noel was asked to do the ceremony ahead of Liam, but he turned it down. (wise man).

Beady Eye are Liam's new band. He's the only one who was in the original line up of Oasis anyway. Gem and Andy Bell did play in Oasis for several years after they kicked out Bonehead and Guigsy, but they aren't original members and both have been songwriters themselves for a longtime (Andy was in Ride Gem in Heavy Stereo). So they changed name to have 'creative freedom' from Noel and so they can write their own stuff.

Trouble is, their new stuff is not as good as Noel's stuff, so they've recently started playing Oasis songs again which they hadn't done since the split. And Liam's voice died a number of years ago, due to drink and him not looking after his voice properly.

All makes me a bit sad really.

TheCraicDealer · 13/08/2012 09:12

Well she was the only one out of all five of them that doesn't "need" the exposure, so fair fucks to her for doing it. She never really seemed 100% relaxed performing anyway, I can't imagine being whizzed about in heels on top of a fast moving black cab would add to comfort levels.

Liam was shit.

squeakytoy · 13/08/2012 09:18

Liam sounded like he had a peg on his nose... whiny, nasal and flat.

I thought the Spice Girls were ok until the repetetive screeching of "spice up your life" which was never in the original song as far as I remember.

Ed Sheerhan was very good, and Jessie J with Brian May were great too.

Lilithmoon · 13/08/2012 09:23

Oh my god I have just listened to Wonderwall from last night. He is SHIT! Ugly, out of tune voice. If I performed like that in my role I would be be sacked!

AmberLeaf · 13/08/2012 09:24

Victoria didn't look happy to be there tbh but she was always 'stiff'.

Emma looked bloody gorgeous.

Moominsarescary · 13/08/2012 09:36

Why can I not remember scary and sportys real names

Moominsarescary · 13/08/2012 09:37

Oh yeah both mels arnt they

mumofthemonsters808 · 13/08/2012 09:44

I think she reluctantly agreed to do it on the basis that she would not be the main focus hence she was always out of shot. From what I saw of her she looked lovely.I also noticed her grab the taxi rail to stop her from falling.

Liam did sound awful but he did in Oasis,Noel sounds better, but proper bands are not all about the voice, the music is the priority and the voice complements the sound.Think how dire Bob Dylan's voice is but he is a legend.Swagger is part of the Oasis image.

I found the whole show bizzare but I appear to be in the minority, headlines are screaming "The Best Show On Earth" but for me it was very strange. I don't know if my TV is on the blink but the sound of even Annie Lennox was wrong.

Hulababy · 13/08/2012 09:52

She did actually smile - right at the end when they did one close up of her. She def had a small smile!

AGiraffeOnTheDivingBoard · 13/08/2012 09:59

Emma was brilliant - she looked like she loved it. VB looked nervous and uncomfortable.

I didn't think it was the best show on earth but I do think the high of the Olympics carried it through. There was lots of good will and obviously a great atmosphere - and there were just enough good bits.

ssd · 13/08/2012 09:59

link to prove it hully Grin

mumofthe, last night i started a thread to say i thought it was all a bit shit, you arent in the minority!!

ssd · 13/08/2012 09:59

sorry you're not hully you're hula!!

sancerreity · 13/08/2012 10:00

looked like her usual talentless self

ssd · 13/08/2012 10:00

one thinh you must say about the spices, they all looked damn good

squeakytoy · 13/08/2012 10:01

I thought that considering they had a lot less rehearsal time for this than the opening ceremony, nobody did badly at all.

Bumblebee333 · 13/08/2012 10:30

I nearly cried when spice girls came on. I was like a 9 year old all over again. My DH was like Hmm

stressheaderic · 13/08/2012 10:36

VB's Twitter page has her taking a few snaps just before and after the gig so it was definitely her!
She says on there "I was a popstar for a night!" which kind of sums up how she feels about the Spice Girls.

I thought Jessie J was great with Queen. God, I still miss Freddie.

Clytaemnestra · 13/08/2012 11:08

Liam sounded like Lee Mack does when he's really exaggerating his Manc accent.

To his credit I thought his monkey swagger was toned down from the Brits, which was the last time I saw him perform, he did look marginally less like he was about to pick up his own poo and fling it at the audience.

Trills · 13/08/2012 11:12

I saw Geri and Emma in London the other day (the week before the Olympics) - they are both teeny tiny.

I only recognised them because my colleague pointed them out - Geri looks more like "herself" of the two of them.

Catandthecream · 13/08/2012 11:19

I think Victoria only did it on the basis that one of her designs featured on the models alongside McQueen, Westwood etc, she is hardly of the same calibre!

As for the models....??

CoffeeGoneColdAgain · 13/08/2012 11:20

Bumble my dp did exactly the same, I was dancing in my chair (how I remembered the moves I'll never know) :)

In my twitter feed someone had retweeted VB saying she'd had the most amazing night .. loved it...
Was a bit :( that Melanie C didn't have trackies on though Grin

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 13/08/2012 11:34

Spice Girls were dull. It was VB though. No one else could look as stick-up-the-arsey as that.

Liam looked and sounded like someone badly impersonating Liam Gallagher.

Ed Sheeran is approximately 13 years old, distinctly average, and should not have been let near such a classic song.

Ditto Ricky Wilson (except not the 13 years old bit). And why the double denim?

Jessie J and her stooges looked under-rehearsed; didn't seem to know when they were meant to finish and take their bows. Her voice isn't all that either.

Russell Brand looked like a tit.

Do they only let Annie Lennox out these days for bombastic yet banal 'national events'?

Nice to see Georgie Michael, and I loved Freedom, but who let him do his crap new song?

Loved Eric Idle, of course. And they let him sing 'Life's a piece of shit'!

Loved Take That; that is a stone-cold GREAT pop song.

Can't remember anything else. It was all a bit of a mess. Boyle must have been sitting at home laughing his tits off at how much better his was.
