This is semi light hearted :)

Me having to share room with dc2 (20 months) or sticking him in with dc1 (12).

Ds1 doesn't one to share room with ds2. For a start he has lots of things in his room which ds1 makes a bee line for (think pc/xbox/tv) and it would be a nightmare to keep ds1 away from and they'd probably get broken at some point.

Ds2 also is still having his daytime nap and obviously goes to bed earlier than

Hmm this is tricky. I think DS2 should probably stay with you for a little while longer. I imagine DS2 likes to use his bedroom in the daytime and evenings to do things on his own. Where as you probably don't use your bedroom as much. If you do put him in with DS1 then could you provide plenty of high DS2 proof storage.

Good luck with whatever you choose. I am sure it will be fine. Smile

Ah I may have got that mixed up then. NVM... As you were Smile

If DS1&2 share, you lose the lounge for kidsfree time as ds1 will need somewhere to go in the evnings.

If you keep ds2 i with you, at least the lounge remains a child free zone in the evenings.

12yo is too big a gap to share. I have a.two bed flat and it is this which is the deciding factor on if and when we have dc2. Should there be a 4yr or less gap, we will stay put and they will share. Any bigger gap than that and we wait til we can sell up and buy a three bed before resuiming the ttcing.

PenisVanLesbian · 13/08/2012 12:02

it is. hth

HecateHarshPants · 13/08/2012 12:11

It's a very big gap.

12 years and 2 years

13 and 3

14 and 4

15 and 5

16 and 6

a 16 yr old sharing his room with a 6 yr old?

Can you imagine?

If there's no way you can move in years to come, I'd seriously be looking at having a good quality sofa bed in the living room and letting the children have a room each for the few years before your eldest moves out.

DontmindifIdo · 13/08/2012 12:18

It was never the law you couldn't have mixed genders sharing a room, but it was the rule for social housing that they shouldn't after a set age so should get bigger properties to allow for a room each after the age of 10 (I think) - however in a private situation with no housing benefit, it's up to the parents to do what they want. Also, while social housing should provide a bedroom each for DCs of different genders over the age of 10, there was no enforcement if families wanted to arrange their homes differently. (ie having DCs share a room and then having a play room would be fine.)

dixiechick1975 · 13/08/2012 12:24

I wouldn't make them share.

All that will happen is teenager will have to use your lounge as his space to xbox/do homework.

Why not get a bed settee or day bed and use the lounge as your bedroom?

or is any bedroom big enough to partition eg with a line of wardrobed down the middle.
