I was in tesco today and there is a new energy drink on sale made by mike Tyson and I was really shocked that firstly it was in sale in tesco and secondly that anyone would want to drink something made by a rapist. It made me wonder how low tesco will go. What next shipman shrimps.

Or aibu because the man was convicted and served his time so therefore deserves a second chance.

Am half way through a complain to tesco, but then I started to wonder. What do you think.

I wouldn't have thought about him being a rapist tbh, more concerned about the sale of these awful drinks. Certainly wouldn't allow my children to drink them and have educated my older dc not to touch them. So how the idea of a role model would come into it I don't see.

griphook · 11/08/2012 21:55

It's the role model aspect that gets me, rather than him making money. Part of his infamy comes from his conviction for rape, so he is directly making money from it

TheCrackFox
"If Tyson had been convicted of raping a man you can bet your bottom dollar that he wouldn't be endorsing anything."

Just Hmm

McHappyPants2012 · 11/08/2012 21:58

Tbh I don't think energy drinks are aimed at children, and tbh I don't think a boxer is a good role model for children either.

FastidiaBlueberry · 11/08/2012 22:44

Bbj why the scepticism?

Crackfox is quite right, anyone who rapes a man, would never in a million years be accepted as a role model, suitable for commercial endorsing of products, by any corporation on the planet.

If she's wrong, please point us to a convicted rapist of a man, who was afterwards employed to lend his august presence to endorse a commercial product.

You won't be able to because it's never happened. Because a man who rapes another man, is seen for the barbarian he is. Whereas a man who rapes a woman, is a role model.

I've signed it, suggest anyone else who agrees does to.

TiggyD · 11/08/2012 22:48

"Over 90% of rapists are aquitted
Just sayin' "

Somebody who is found not guilty of rape is not a rapist.

Mia4 · 11/08/2012 22:50

McHappyPants2012 Tesco should not be supporting him, it's condoning who he is and therefore what he does and has done. In a fashion, it's idolization.

And his victim is likely serving a life sentence.

McHappyPants2012 · 11/08/2012 22:58

The people who buy the drink will be supporting him, if tesco don't get a profit then they will discontinue the product.

There are product in tesco that some people feel tesco shouldn't sell such as eggs from caged chickens.

I will not buy the drink

VegansTasteBetter · 11/08/2012 23:00

I really hate people feel once someone has "served their time" their history is forgotten. Served time just means that they were punished, not necessarily they were suitable punished, or that they were punished even a tiny way the victim was punished and will continue to be punished. People get out after murdering and raping children, have they "served their time" have they really done their debt to their victims, their victim's family?

No. We just haven't got the means to put away every peice of scum for life that deserves to be put away. Mike Tyson ENJOYS abusing and raping women, he is still a danger to women. But hey, ho he served time. So give him a starring role in a film and a drinks deal.

edam · 11/08/2012 23:01

90% of rapists are NOT acquitted. That's a very dangerous lie as it creates the idea that 90% of rape victims are liars.

winnybella · 11/08/2012 23:04

OK, had a look at Polish websites and the drink is called Black by a company called FoodCare, the owner of which is called Wladyslaw Wlodarski. The campaign in Poland has been thought up by Grey Worldwide Warszawa- so seeing as Grey are huge international ad agency, they might have handled it in the UK as well, perhaps?

Hope it's helpful as a starting point if anyone wants to complain. Tbh, I can see how it would make sense in Poland (still a very sexist traditional society) but in the UK (even if still sexist, definitely more PC).

winnybella · 11/08/2012 23:05

?

winnybella · 11/08/2012 23:08

FoodCare website

If you scroll on the moving bar on the right you'll see the ad for Tyson's drink and on top you can switch to English if anyone wants to send a complaint. HTH

McHappyPants2012 · 11/08/2012 23:08

Vegan I do belive once someone has served there time or done what the court has order then that is it.

Or it could be paying for the the people who make it wages

BrianCoxIsUpTheDuff · 11/08/2012 23:27

Petition signed (just copy the link and paste)

Also linked to my FB so others can see/sign if they believe.

Gary Glitter - convicted, served his time didn't he? Should he be free to promote his wares? (Trying to think of another 'celeb' but it's late and I can't. I'm not being pedantic, just trying to get my point across)

Regardless of the 'time served' argument, the victim will continue to serve their time, because of the actions of these (and I use the term loosely) "men"
