People too lazy to clap with both hands

SamuelWestsMistress · 11/08/2012 17:33

Even though they have two perfectly ok hands and just slap their hand on their thigh instead.

This really irritates me. Just clap normally FFS!

AIBU?

I do it if my other hand is full, is that acceptable?

NameChangeGalore · 11/08/2012 17:35

Wonder how those folk in Syria are doing these days.

TidyDancer · 11/08/2012 17:35

What an odd thing to get worked up about!

SamuelWestsMistress · 11/08/2012 17:36

That may be understandable if it's an item that can not momentarily be placed upon a near by surface, such as a young infant or a hot beverage.

Can't beat a good old clap.

rhondajean · 11/08/2012 17:37

Phew.

SamuelWestsMistress · 11/08/2012 17:37

What has Syria got to do with this? Hmm

I clap properly, but if I do it for too long (ie Strictly Come Dancing Tour) I get fizzy hands. Grin so I do revert to the leg slapping.

LadyBeagleEyes · 11/08/2012 17:49

I hate clapping, it's boring.
A bit of variety in clapping is cool. Grin

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 11/08/2012 17:50

My mum used to be able to clap with her bum cheeks. But she runs now, so has lost a lot of weight Grin

LadyBeagleEyes · 11/08/2012 17:52

Did it make a clappy noise OneOf?
Now fascinated by bum cheek clapping.

LynetteScavo · 11/08/2012 17:52

Yanbu. It really irritates me too. Sometimes it irritates me even if they are holding a drink.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 11/08/2012 17:53

Yeah, it was ace.

I've seen seals doing it. Lazy feckers

bogeyface · 11/08/2012 17:55

The one hand clap is my preference when I have to clap but I think that what i am clapping isnt very good. So I am following social convention without actually saying "woohoo, that was great"!

starfishmummy · 11/08/2012 17:56

Perhaps they have a disability can only use one hand.

HecateHarshPants · 11/08/2012 17:56

I read the thread title and I thought well, surely that's waving Grin

But yes, I don't know why people would slap themselves instead of clapping (assuming both hands are free and they have the use of both hands eg no paralysis or pain or what have you). do people do that? With two free and fully functioning hands?

HecateHarshPants · 11/08/2012 17:57

Oh well, I do now, now I know about fizzy hands. Sorry about that, Sparkling Grin

SamuelWestsMistress · 11/08/2012 18:00

Stamping a foot is possibly only slightly worse.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 11/08/2012 18:00

I don't think it's a proper medical condition Hecate, just 'overclapping'. Grin I don't mind a bit of a shout sometimes for a change. Grin

garlicnuts · 11/08/2012 18:03

I sometimes half-clap. That's keeping one hand still and slapping it with the other. I can swap hands if one wrist gets tired or one palm gets fizzy (thanks, Sparkling - that's it exactly!)

Is this OK?

MrsMangelfanciedPaulRobinson · 11/08/2012 18:03

I've never seen anyone doing that

dinosaurrawwr · 11/08/2012 18:03

Its a very first world problem isn't it?

garlicnuts · 11/08/2012 18:06

I'm sure third-worlders also find themselves needing to applaud while inconvenienced by a small child, a full cup or fizzy palms, dinosaur.
