to have thrown up my dinner?

Apparantly I am being a "bit of a drama queen", despite it being completely involuntary.

The only issue I have with food is fat. I hate it. Not hidden fat like you get in bacon or chicken with the skin on, but those big lumps of wobbly fat you get in pre-made pies etc. I loathe and it makes me gag.

We had a ready meal type thing tonight as the kids are away and it was on offer. Cue me getting a big mouthful of this fat (even typing it is making me queasy!), and i couldnt finish my meal so H had it. I felt quite sick and then threw up (in the loo, not all over the lounge!). I didnt want to but it just happened.

He says I over reacted and am being OTT about a bit of fat that I spat out anyway.

AIBU to think "bollocks, eat a plate of sprouts and then tell me how YOU feel", obv he hates sprouts!

And before anyone asks why I bought it if there was a chance of fat in it, I just didnt think about it when I bought it! I make 99% of our meals from scratch, this was the first ready meal I have bought in about a year, so it just didnt occur to me.

Yanbu. I throw up at the sight of bogeys and snot and nose picking.

It's involuntary.

Make him eat sprouts then.

danteV · 10/08/2012 21:12

What was it?

bogeyface · 10/08/2012 21:17

A ham and leek gratin thing from Tesco. Not sure thats relevant but happy to share!

Winky 6 kids later and bogeys really dont bother me (check the name!) unless my MIL is involved. She is Jamaican and does the "sucking snot" thing on babies ........RALPH ........HUEY........

I hate seeing people make a big deal over nothing. Last week I was with someone who started heaving and gagging and shouting because they had a sip of coffee by accident, and they don't like coffee. Just say "yuck!" and leave it at that.

bogeyface · 10/08/2012 21:21

But I didnt do it on purpose Shatners. I really didnt! I was passing my dinner to H and then suddenly retched and that was it. I couldnt have stopped it anymore than you could stop the sun coming up!

JugsMcGee · 10/08/2012 21:21

YANBU. I seem to have a sensitive gag reflex and things like blobs of fat will do it. It's not "making a big deal out of things" if you're involuntarily sick. I'm sure if you could stop yourself being sick then you would, no one wants to throw up.

Your OP has made me queasy.

danteV · 10/08/2012 21:22

it does matter, what the hell was a big lump of fat doing in it? Yuk.
Tbh people doing this really annoys me, usually when 3 days later they seem fi e with the same thing.
But then if you really can't help it, not much you can do.
I would say of your OH is generally a good bloke, I would imagine he genuinely thinks you were 'over egging it'.

bogeyface · 10/08/2012 21:24

I cant re-read it jugs :o

I have just told him that when he eats an olive and keeps it down, we will talk! Just remembered that he loathes olives far more than sprouts and cant even smell them without gagging!

Wuss! :o

danteV · 10/08/2012 21:24

Sorry I meant it did matter as if I was say a stir fry, you would have bu.

bogeyface · 10/08/2012 21:25

If it was a stir fry I would be even more Shock to find that in it, but I take your point!

OP posts:
GingerWrath · 10/08/2012 21:25

It'S gristle for me, I will not eat processed crap because the first sign of it I can't finish a meal!

eurochick · 10/08/2012 21:26

YANBU. Fat makes me heave too.

bogeyface · 10/08/2012 21:28

I feel sick again......gristle is under the "lumps of fat" umbrella, which is why I can only eat fillet steak, despite prefering the taste of sirloin!

OP posts:
GingerWrath · 10/08/2012 21:32

Sausage and mince are off the menus for me! BesT steak is rump cause I can cut round the fat. I can't eat reformed chicken either.

TallDwarf · 10/08/2012 21:32

Yanbu! I cannot smell/look at/think about chow mein without feeling queasy. Even now my mouth is doing that horrible watery thing. I bet I would throw up if I ate some by accident, you are not alone!

Enfyshedd · 10/08/2012 22:07

I tried porridge (with a sliced banana on top) for the first time last weekend - DP couldn't believe it when I heaved after 3 spoonfuls of the porridge on its own (was just about ok when I ate it with some banana, but I ran out). I think it's a texture or dairy thing with me as I hate creamy sauces on food (had only just managed to eat the cheese-free white sauce on the lasagne the night before).

I'm so going to have fun when I start weaning DD and am trying to encourage her to eat food by having some myself... Blush

bogeyface · 10/08/2012 22:20

Oh thats easy done enfys, you just do the same as you do when offered a slimy half chewed snot covered sandwich by your baby. You go "MMM!!!! num num num (as if eating), mmmmm....YOUR TURN!" and then wipe your mouth quickly with a wet wipe.

Babies are a bit thick and they dont spot it Wink :o

OP posts:
Naoko · 10/08/2012 22:24

Oh god I feel ill just reading about it. YA so NBU. I am extremely unsqueamish in general but I can't deal with things in my food. DP, bless him, is extremely understanding about this and just pats me on the back sympathetically when I stop chewing, go a bit green and run to the loo; he's usually removed the offending foodstuff from my plate by the time I get back too.

bogeyface · 10/08/2012 22:28

You mean you can still eat after that Naoko? Its "meal over" for me after that!

OP posts:
bogeyface · 10/08/2012 22:29

Oh and i have just thought of something else. If someone else removes a piece of fat or gristle and leaves it on the side of their plate then it puts me off too!

I really do feel sick again now.......

NCForNow · 10/08/2012 22:31

I have never found a "big lump of wobbly fat" in ANY pie! What brand are they?

Naoko · 10/08/2012 22:33

I can eat, given a few minutes to take a deep breath, just not the item that contained the icky thing. I've gotten better about this, years ago I couldn't have. I was very impressed with myself a while ago when I was in a pub with friends and one of the friends ordered chicken wings - I ate my dinner despite the pile of chicken bones less than two feet from me. (DP did intervene and swap places with me so it wasn't right next to me, lovely man, I wouldn't have said anything because I know it's my problem not anyone else's...)

NCForNow · 10/08/2012 22:34

I am with Shatners. I cant be doing with a big hullabaloo. I also can't bear DRAMATIC sneezers. You know...those people who go "WAAAA....HRRRRR...WAAAAHCHOOOOOO!

Lora1982 · 10/08/2012 22:35
