To need a slap for being a judgy-pants

ILiveInAPineapple · 09/08/2012 21:41

Saw a lady I know when I was in the post office today, feeding her four month old chocolate buttons.
I know I shouldn't, I know it's wrong, but I just gawped and felt judgemental. She said hi and told me how much he loves chocolate (I bet!) so it is obviously not the first time he has had chocolate!
I have felt like that all day, and I know it is none of my business, and so therefore I am being totally unreasonable.

Someone slap me, because I am not usually like this!!!

Slap BUT I get where you are coming from.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 09/08/2012 21:42

... Happy to help.

SparklingGoldMedals · 09/08/2012 21:42

SLAP!!!!

comingoutasasathiest · 09/08/2012 21:42

Nah, I'm not going to slap you.
Feeding chocolate to a 4mth old isn't right.
Judge away.

Lucyellensmum99 · 09/08/2012 21:42

here have a chocolate Biscuit

NoWayNoHow · 09/08/2012 21:43

I won't judge your judgy pants. 4 months old is far too young for chocolate - fact.

Of course, you will inevitably be to told "not to put your beak in", and "how is it any of your business?" but let's face it - there's not much outside I direct lives that IS our business, and the world would be a pretty boring place if we couldn't gawp a bit at what others are doing! Grin

ChunkysMum · 09/08/2012 21:45

WHACK

What age do Mumsnetters think it's acceptable to give chocolate? (Wondering if I've been judged from afar)

ILiveInAPineapple · 09/08/2012 21:46

Thanks for the slaps, and also for those who join my in the judgy-pants.

I know it's none of my business but I was just so shocked, and have remained so all day.

First time in all of my many years I have seen so young a baby being fed chocolate!

I am glad I managed to keep mouth shut whole I was in the post office.

No slap from me.

ILiveInAPineapple · 09/08/2012 21:46

I didn't give my DS anything sweets/ chocolate/ cake wise until he was 1. In fast his fist "treat" was cake on his 1st birthday but I realise I was a bit PFB.

NoWayNoHow · 09/08/2012 21:47

I have NO idea what acceptable MN age is for chocolate except to say that DS was probably far younger!- but I'm fairly positive that it shouldn't be a baby's first solid which, if it's 4 months old like OP says, it would be.

LynetteScavo · 09/08/2012 21:47

I knew someone who did this, but it was years ago when babies were weaned at 4 months. I wasn't too judgy about the chocolate buttons, I was judgy about the meals which consisted of a tin of beans and mini sausages and a milky bar at 6 months.

But OP, chocolate buttons are just the right size to fit a a 4 month old mouth to keep them quiet!

BonkeyHasGOLDMollocks · 09/08/2012 21:49

I'm with you OP

My judgey pants are on good and proper today Grin

NoWayNoHow · 09/08/2012 21:49

Rice milk?? RICE MILK??? Clearly I meant baby rice. (It's been a long time since i had anything to do with any weird runny rice anything)

CaliforniaLeaving · 09/08/2012 21:49

No slap from me either. I'd have given her a look.
At 5 months Ds's first solid food was a piece of chocolate, I was horrified. Older Ds fed it to him in the back of the car, no wonder it was a quiet drive home Blush

ThePigOnTheWall · 09/08/2012 21:51

How did you know how old he was?

But if he were 4 months then you were right to hoik up the old JPs

Glittertwins · 09/08/2012 21:52

Ours weren't on any form of solids at that age. They didn't have chocolate until after their 1st birthday. Plenty of time in life for chocolate, it doesn't need to be the first taste they have.

MamaBear17 · 09/08/2012 21:52

I sat waiting for my dd to be weighed once and another mum turned to me and asked how my dd slept. At the time she was about 3 weeks old and I gave the usual 'awful' answer. To my horror she said that she gave her little boy (he was 12 weeks I think) hot chocolate to help him sleep!! I must have given her the most horrified look because she then said 'oh dont worry, I give it him in a bottle not a cup'!! I replied with 'oh' because I didn't know what else to say! I know its not good to judge, but I think there are exceptions!

MammaTJisanOlympicSumoWrestler · 09/08/2012 21:53

ILiveInAPineapple my PFB called grapes sweeties until she was two. I got slacker with the second and probably even slacker with the third, but not quite down to 4 months. I think I would need another 6 children hell would freeze over before I have another one before I got that bad!! no, not at all judgy

naturalbaby · 09/08/2012 21:54

I'll join you with my judgy pants.

I felt like a bad parent giving in to ds2 eating most some of my chocolate ice cream at 7months to keep him quiet on holiday.

ILiveInAPineapple · 09/08/2012 21:55

I know how old he is because I know when he was born :-) the whole of the town knows when he was born, I'd imagine!

OP posts:
catgirl2012 · 09/08/2012 21:55

I was not planning on giving DS anything like that till he was one

Found out DM and DF have been giving him ice cream once a week for the last month or so.......... :)

ThePigOnTheWall · 09/08/2012 21:56

How? Why? I mean how and why did the whole town know?

MammaTJisanOlympicSumoWrestler · 09/08/2012 21:57

Ooo, is mum the local sleb, or just local gossip fodder?
