To need a slap for being a judgy-pants

Saw a lady I know when I was in the post office today, feeding her four month old chocolate buttons.
I know I shouldn't, I know it's wrong, but I just gawped and felt judgemental. She said hi and told me how much he loves chocolate (I bet!) so it is obviously not the first time he has had chocolate!
I have felt like that all day, and I know it is none of my business, and so therefore I am being totally unreasonable.

Someone slap me, because I am not usually like this!!!

My PFB didn't have chocolate until her 1st birthday chocolate cake.

Neglected sibling was given chocolate muffins (by the PFB) from about 6-8 months I would have judged too.

Because she is one of those people who never does anything quietly or discreetly. I had a blow by blow account of every minute of the pregnancy and leaky boobs every time I saw her, followed up by a similar run down of the labour, and there was also an essay on Facebook along a similar vein. In fact I also stood in the queue behind her in the supermarket while she shared her birth story with the lady on the checkout and the rest of the queue.

She is a very friendly person, don't get me wrong, just a bit loud open and up front with her personal life.

Not gossip fodder, just shares every aspect of her personal life with anyone who will listen, and it's a very small and close knit town where everyone knows everyone else

What ThePig said! Did she have him in the local KFC, a la Lola from Eastenders?!

BlackholesAndRevelations · 09/08/2012 22:03

Aw... Posted too slowly.

zippey · 09/08/2012 22:06

You shouldnt judge or get angry about something like that - everyone has different opinions about how to bring up babies. I still dont like giving our 14 month old chocolate buttons, crisps or ice cream though we do on occasions. I love chocolate and ice cream and why not share the joys of life with your little ones (in moderation!)

ILiveInAPineapple · 09/08/2012 22:06

Sorry Grin.

We don't even have a KFC think local town for local people in fact we don't have any chain food places!

I'm a bit lax when it comes to biscuits etc with my DS who is 1 next month (not overly just the ocassional bit) and you will get no slap from me. At that age it's too young.

Mind, I gave DS his very own mini milky way today for the first time at a picnic and he shunned it. Hmm

ChunkysMum · 09/08/2012 22:19

8mo DD has a generally healthy diet however has had sweet treats since about 7months as they give petit filous, puddings etc at nursery and today had a chocolate bourbon biscuit at home.

Does that make me a bad mother?

ILiveInAPineapple · 09/08/2012 22:24

No chunky, it was because I knew he was only 4 months and I know I was PFB with my DS my DS will have to be stopped feeding any future children as he always tries to feed the dogs anything he thinks they will like and I will have to get a grip if I have any more DCs!

botoxschmotox · 09/08/2012 22:25

I'm judging. Nothing wrong with the odd sweet treat when they're older and properly on solids, but 4 months is way too tiny to be shovelling chocolate in.

everlast · 09/08/2012 22:29

4 month olds shouldnt be eating anything so yanbu

SparklingGoldMedals · 09/08/2012 22:31

I haven't had a 4 month old baby for ten years, and don't remember feeding either DS chocolate buttons at 4 months. But what may happen if you did?

Flobbadobs · 09/08/2012 22:36

On one hand I would have judged massivley. On the other hand I was judged myself a few days ago so have resolved to readjust the judgey pants for a while...
I actually caused gasps of horror from a couple of mums in the park by feeding (admittedly dinky) DD2 a few spoonfuls of ice cream. She's 6 months. And has been weaning for about 3 weeks or so and loving every minute of it!
Half expected to see a thread on here somewhere about the dreadful woman in the park tbh...
