To be a bit fed up by now?

The summer holidays are dragging by painfully a little.

I live alone and have no DCs and I am getting desperate! I cannot physically spend another day bumbling about my house! Sad

How do most people fill the days?!

Smile Can you join some clubs? Sports/crafts/the WI? Go and volunteer at the hospital (I'm not saying you're old, there's loads of people in hospital who never get a visitor, so they won't care how old you are Sad)

squeakytoy · 08/08/2012 19:58

Are you locked in the house?

DefenceAgainstTheDarkArts · 08/08/2012 19:59

Grin Funnily enough my last human contact (oh how pathetic do I sound!) was visiting a friend in hospital at the weekend!

Yes, I do need to force my behind out, it's difficult as I am moving house soon, not miles and miles but it will take me out of the immediate area. Ironically I saw a class I'd have loved to have done being advertised but by the time it starts I'll hopefully have moved!

I think I have cabin fever!

Squeaky, no, assuming that's a genuine question :)

DefenceAgainstTheDarkArts · 08/08/2012 20:05

Can you do some tutoring next year? Holiday? Hobby? Photography is good fun. Smile Write a book?

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 08/08/2012 20:12

Read.
Go the gym.
Have lots of nice coffee and cake in independent coffee shops.

And lunch.

I know how you feel a bit...I have 10 weeks enforced holiday, and it is very easy not to do anything except veg. However the olympics have kept me occupied. I have 3 trips to London next week for exhibitions (and lunch).

DefenceAgainstTheDarkArts · 08/08/2012 20:20

It is difficult ... I do really enjoy reading but even starting to get a bit fed up with that now! :) I spend the last 3 weeks of term longing for the break then feeling fed up with it!

Meet up with friends?

MammaTJisanOlympicSumoWrestler · 08/08/2012 20:34

Have my DC for a few days? Grin

squeakytoy · 08/08/2012 20:37

It was a genuine question yes. :)

Go out, go to NT places, go to the coast..

My mum used to say only boring people got bored, and I do think she was right.

When I have spare time to do anything, I am off out to some attraction, be it a castle, a park, a zoo... with my camera, enough money to buy a coffee, and even a book.. I could not stay cooped up in the house for 6 weeks, it would send me doolally.

sweetkitty · 08/08/2012 20:39

Does your local area run summerclubs? Ours are always looking for volunteers.

Get out and about find some nice walks, local attractions etc

squeakytoy · 08/08/2012 20:41

If I lived alone, with no ties, I would be getting cheap Easy Jet flights and bogging off to places like Rome, Prague, random european destinations, with hand luggage and a guide book.

Short haul flights are really cheap, and budget accomodation is easy to come by.

DefenceAgainstTheDarkArts · 08/08/2012 20:41

Mamma I'd love to, hehe! I do understand it's less of a novelty when you have them 24/7!

The thing is, I have done a lot of reading at coffee shops (have been on holiday for 3 weeks at this point now) and even that has started to get a little, well, dull to be honest.

Lady - a lot of them are away on holiday, or busy with their own DCs. I have met up with friends but I don't have enough friends to last me the whole summer, it would appear! Grin

Love the NT idea :)

Whereabouts in the UK are you, I can recommend loads of places in the SE or the NW. :)

Do you drive?

DefenceAgainstTheDarkArts · 08/08/2012 20:44

I do, yes :) I am Midlands based :)

OP posts:
TheWalkingDead · 08/08/2012 20:44

Whereabouts in the country are you? Could you not look into free galleries, museums, exhibitions that may be interesting to you? National Trust and Heritage places anywhere nearby? Or go to the seaside and have a walk - maybe see about a friend going with you?

Sorry, I'm just thinking wistfully of what I would spend my time doing if I didn't have children Grin I'm living vicariously through a stranger....
I need to get out more, don't I?

LaurieFairyCake · 08/08/2012 20:45

Where are you?

With no kids you could jump in the car and drive to Cornwall and get there to watch the sun come up. I've done this and it was brilliant.

It's really easy to get trapped at home and not bother getting dressed til the afternoon, this keeps happening to me so I kick my butt to get up at 8 and immediately get showered - if I go down and start pottering and mumsnetting it can get to midday before I manage anything really.

doinmummy · 08/08/2012 20:45

Where abouts are you?

squeakytoy · 08/08/2012 20:47

Get in the car and get out somewhere for a few days then. Travel around, you could go to Wales, The Lake District, down south to Devon or Cornwall, or Midlands Airport :)

The weather is meant to be perking up over the next couple of weeks too.

DefenceAgainstTheDarkArts · 08/08/2012 20:47

Midlands. I am trying to save money to be honest so not sure just going to Cornwall is the most conducive idea where that is concerned Grin Added to which, loads of my belongings are boxed up (the house move was meant to happen this week but now isn't) and I haven't felt hugely well these past few days - not desperately ill but just a bit tired and out of sorts somehow. I went for a walk yesterday but I really didn't enjoy it as it was so muggy and sweaty!

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 08/08/2012 20:48

Go to Aberdyfi and stay at the Trefeddian for a great view.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/08/2012 21:08

If you're not feeling that well how about a spa day - pick up a very cheap deal on ?

Facial, massage, steam, sauna. If you're bored with reading download all the films you've missed.

Loads of ten quid theatre deals in London at the moment. Drive from midlands to Brent cross (about £15 petrol return at the most) - day travelcard. Catch a matinee plus an evening performance as cheap as possible.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/08/2012 21:11

Pick up a cheap deal on 'groupon' for spa day.

Work your way through a box set you've missed (get it from library, iplayer or a mate) silk/dexter/the hour/in treatment series 1,2,3/ life/ the wire/

Or a box set of favourite actors - I've really enjoyed a bette Davis one and a Cary grant one I've has recently.
