shouldn't automatically spring up "Jessica Ennis Bikini" and "Jessica Ennis bum" as two of the first three options.

And that it shows that sexism is alive and well for even the most successful females.

AiBu to feel incredibly sad about this..

Nowt wrong with the Bolt imo :)

RindersGoesForGold · 08/08/2012 17:22

I bet, 20 years ago if we'd had the internet, lunchbox would be the top hit if we googled Linford Christie.

RubyFakeNails · 08/08/2012 17:22

Google Cherie, its funnier.

helloclitty · 08/08/2012 17:27

Kim, Rinders and Ruby Smile

"Tee "Stop looking for reasons to be offended with the world. You'll be a much happier person."

"So you deduce that because it makes me a bit sad that the top results are not sports related I am an unhappy person?""

Well, you could be a bit happier, if this element of sadness were lifted from you life. And it was important enough to you to post in AIBU (rather than chat for light-hearted, or one of the discussion forums, eg London2012 for consideration of sports reputations etc, geeky stuff for cyber behaviour etc)

Trills · 08/08/2012 17:29

Yes it should, because that's how the algorithms work.

If the most common 3-word phrase beginning with "Jessica Ennis" is "Jessica Ennis bum" then that's what it should offer.

Unless you mean should in a "society shouldn't be like this" kind of way :)

helloclitty · 08/08/2012 17:30

with the exception of Tee2072 you are making me realise I was wrong and that it's not gender specific. So IABU

GhostShip · 08/08/2012 17:31

It's actually refreshing when an OP actually takes on board what's been said instead of arguing the toss

Trills · 08/08/2012 17:35

If I do google.co.uk I get Jessica Ennis... bikini, parents, height, bum

If I do google.com I get Jessica Ennis... parents, bikini, race, bum

I'm guessing googling her parents is basically about her race.

So does this show that Americans are more interested in race than British people?

helloclitty · 08/08/2012 17:37

Interesting Trill Hmm

RindersGoesForGold · 08/08/2012 17:38

Clitty, you are the very first OP I have ever seen in AIBU who has conceded that perhaps you were!

Ruby, I'm not surprised Grin

Poor old Henrik, in google images, the first dozen or so photos of him are of him displaying his excitement at getting a bronze!

Trills · 08/08/2012 17:41

I'm a little surprised that "Jessica Ennis abs" is not a top result

helloclitty · 08/08/2012 17:45

Well I was wrong and jumped on the sexist bang wagon when really it's just a part of human nature that sports men and women with good bodies will be oggled at!

I suppose I couldn't care less when people like Jordan are talked about in this manner because that is what they are selling but I naively thought that sports men and women might not be looked at in this way.

I was wrong and actually as long as it's not gender specific then who cares.

OP posts:
Trills · 08/08/2012 17:46

:o at "bang wagon"

Tom Daley > diver / Twitter / girlfriend

Usain Bolt > 2012 Olympics / 200m / facts

Jessica Ennis > bikini / parents / bum

Mo Farah > medal ceremony / wife / the cube

Chris Hoy > legs / Twitter / thighs

Beth Tweddle > teeth / boyfriend / fact file

Victoria Pendleton > gq / bikes / fhm

Not sure about the Chris Hoy results, but I don't think the OP is looking for stuff to be annoyed about tbh. I think it's really there.

RubyFakeNails · 08/08/2012 17:50

if it cheers you up, 19 million people tuned in to watch Super Saturday on BBC1, 27 or 28 million on the opening ceremony on BBC1 so the sports is getting attention.

Half of it is people sitting in front of the telly, googling those they've just seen or read about.

RubyFakeNails · 08/08/2012 17:51

Beth Tweddle Teeth! I can claim one of those Blush

dranksinatra · 08/08/2012 18:40

Jessica Ennis race.
800metres?

BoneyBackJefferson · 08/08/2012 18:41

I get a page about sport and a link to her home page, nothing about bikinis, bums or anything else.

IIRC, google stores your IP address and the algorithm generates a predictive search from your search history.
