My Mum loves to buy things for DD (20mo). I really really don't mind as her only other grandchildren are grown now and my parents really do dote on her. They're retired and have a bit of money so they can afford it. It's also nice as we don't have much money so I like to see my DD with nice things.

They bought her a LeapTop yesterday and she LOVES it. The bloody thing is driving me mad though...and I actually want to throw it into the fires of Mordor already. She plays the alphabet song constantly and tries to sing along...but the noise is a high pitched squeal that sounds like nails down the chalkboard of my soul (None of this has ANYTHING to do with my huge lack of sleep last night...honestly)

Any other stories of infuriating toys?

Just remembered the time DS fell asleep in the car while playing with his ELC steering wheel. His head rammed on the horn like a car accident victim!

We have a phonics board with Justin Fletcher's voice in it- from the sound of it, we really could have it a LOT worse :o

I have an ELC kettle, my DDs are 14+11 it still goes off if you move it.

Anything light sensitive. DD2 still booby traps the house with her sodding squeaking kitten.

It's meant to answer if you clap, but it goes off if you turn a light on or off or the sun moves. No good removing the batteries, she can find charge and replace the things.

My SIL got my DD one of those musical walking mats for christmas, every step played a different tune and it was really discordant, not to mention one of the songs was jingle bells, who the fuck wants to hear that all year round? It somehow found its way onto ebay to torture some other poor mother, SIL's baby is due soon so I will have my revenge, I am taking notes from this thread for inspiration Grin.

I don't allow battery toys for this very reason. those toys that have crept in have Sellotape over the speaker to tone them down abit. I have an impressively low tolerance for electronic noise
