To be disappointed that we now have a Bright House store on our high street?

Sad

Perhaps the final nail in the coffin.

The have also built a YMCA homeless hostel and the people there spend a lot of their time harassing and shouting at passers by. We can no longer make it to the supermarket due to being harassed.

We used to have a nice high street, but it's just full of scruffy thrift stores and charity shops now.

I know there's a recession on and we do like to visit thrift stores sometimes, but don't want an entire street to decline like this.

Our street is so crap even Bon Marche have left Shock

I don't know what a Bright House store is. We only have pound shops and fried chicken bars on our local high street.

WorraLiberty · 06/08/2012 18:21

We can no longer make it to the supermarket due to being harassed

Oh do behave! Grin

I've stayed in some of the roughest areas in London and could still make it to the supermarket.

MrsHelsBels74 · 06/08/2012 18:22

Isn't Bright House the pay weekly at extortionate interest rates store?

DamnBamboo · 06/08/2012 18:22

What the heck is Brighthouse and why on earth can't you make it to the supermarket?

hiddenhome · 06/08/2012 18:23

Bright House is one of those rip off stores that charge poorer people extortinate amounts to buy things like tvs and other electrical things. I've seen the ads on tv.

WorraLiberty but what if people are spitting at you and shouting obscenities?

Biscuit
hiddenhome · 06/08/2012 18:24

We have to go in the car to Sainsburys now, although we do have an Aldi which is trouble free Grin

Phone the YMCA and tell them what's going on.

hiddenhome · 06/08/2012 18:25

They know what's going on, there are supervisors present in the building.

It's not very nice people shouted and spat at.

noblegiraffe · 06/08/2012 18:25

If people are spitting and causing a public nuisance inform the police and get them to move on, no?

Brighthouse are evil fuckers.

WorraLiberty · 06/08/2012 18:25

Then you learn to ignore them.

Unless you're claiming that every time you go to the supermarket people spit and swear at you?

In which case one would have to question what you're doing to upset them Grin

Olympia2012 · 06/08/2012 18:26

I'm surprised a YMCA would allow it to carry on. You need to complain.. To them, not us!

RuleBritannia · 06/08/2012 18:26

If I were in your position and felt threatened by 'passers by', I woould contact the Police.

hiddenhome · 06/08/2012 18:27

Just walking along. They do it to other people as well. Just random passers by. Doesn't happen every time. Dh goes now, but I don't. I have a sensitive nature and don't like being sworn and jeered at Confused

hiddenhome · 06/08/2012 18:28

Doesn't this happen anywhere else then? I live in the NE and we're right common and scruffy up here Grin

MrsKeithRichards · 06/08/2012 18:32

We got graced with a brighthouse last year.

Olympia2012 · 06/08/2012 18:33

Well they probably aren't in the best of 'mental health' you know.... Cut them some slack

You sound very 'down' on poorer people

Catsmamma · 06/08/2012 18:35

I love brighthouse

They have a tv the size of a small building pressed up against the window and we can watch the Oh-limpicks across the mall whilst pretending to be busy at work

therumoursaretrue · 06/08/2012 18:36

When I lived in the NE I had to walk past a homeless hostel to get to the mini Tesco. The people staying there were always really friendly and mannerly to me and I used to buy them tea and cigarettes the odd time as we kind of got to know them!

Def complain though if if continues, you shouldn't have to feel like you can't even walk to the local shop.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 06/08/2012 18:38

Good heavens OP get out now before you're infected by poorness!!!

nkf · 06/08/2012 18:39

I can see that our high street is fading away. Three shops recently closed and no rush to fill them. Usually the new shop opens almost immediately.

I went to Margate last week and half the front was boarded up. The recession is definitely here.

gothicangel · 06/08/2012 18:39

YAWN

you better move house then!

Denise34 · 06/08/2012 18:46

Brighthouse was formerly Crazy Georges.

hiddenhome · 06/08/2012 18:47

It's not about poorness. I used to be poor when I was growing up. I don't think these people have mental health issues either. They're just young and drunk and looking for trouble.

I'm just sad to see our high street going downhill Sad
