I had a right ding dong with ebay who didn't seem that bothered over this link

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/I-Love-Sex-Hoody-Any-Colour-Any-Size-1040-/270599915970?pt=UK_Girls_Tops&var=&hash=item3f010309c2

I started looking at the internet about it and came accross the mumsnet site
I'm no Mary Whitehouse but would you put a 9 year old in this?

ps I have lodged a complaint about this item too

lovebunny · 01/08/2012 09:26

Extrospektiv - can't imagine why you'd think it an over-reaction. are you ok with underage children being made available for sex? what else is going on if the statement 'i

MsLydia · 01/08/2012 09:37

I'd send a message to the seller telling him you'll report him to the police.

Not sure if it's illegal but might make him think about what he's doing.

Failing that contact the dm. They'd love a story like this. It would shame eBay.

chocoluvva · 01/08/2012 09:55

Could anyone explain how to report this item to ebay?
I've got as far as the form, but it doesn't recognise the number.

Kayano · 01/08/2012 09:58

Can't see how it's marketed at 9 year olds, they have a huge range o options starting with 'I LOVE...'

Kayano · 01/08/2012 10:00

Looks like they may have put the wrong logo top in the wrong section

carycach · 01/08/2012 10:02

Kayano- It's listed under the kids clothing catagory!!

DuelingFanjo · 01/08/2012 10:25

you can report it as offensive by clicking 'report item' halfway down on the right.

Kayano · 01/08/2012 10:46

I can see that, but because of their other gear I think it is more likely to be a posing error rather than an attempt to sexualise 9 year olds

cozietoesie · 01/08/2012 10:51

Report it to ebay using the link on the item.

piprabbit · 01/08/2012 10:58

If you are feeling strongly about this item, you could "Post a question" (at the bottom of the listing) asking the seller how they justify selling this top in child sizes and in the kid's clothing category.

solidgoldbrass · 01/08/2012 11:01

Do bear in mind that some adult women are small and might like to wear clothes like this - you might find it tasteless but it's none of your business. If (as this appears to be) it's a case of a company marketing a range of clothes in a range of sizes, this is more likely a matter of standardizing the listing without thinking about it in much detail.
And just because something exists, it doesn't mean anyone is being forced to buy it for their daughters.

EdithWeston · 01/08/2012 11:03

If it had been listed in the adults section only, I doubt this thread would have existed.

It is the children's listing that is the problem.

The item has now been substantially changed to remove references to children.

lovebunny · 01/08/2012 13:19

would like to make the point that not all learning disabled / mentally ill people are paedophiles!

they certainly are not! who said they were?
and sons are just as much at risk of sexual exploitation as daughters

porcamiseria · 01/08/2012 13:49

its in adults clothing you muppet!!!! whats next, toddler size gimp suits for sale!!!!

piprabbit · 01/08/2012 13:52

porca - it's been moved to adult clothing since the thread started. The seller has also amended the sizing details so they are only selling adult sizes.

porcamiseria · 01/08/2012 13:54
Blush
Krumbum · 01/08/2012 13:55

Why would that be suitable for an adult!

carycach · 01/08/2012 14:18

Good. That's a result then!

Birdsgottafly · 01/08/2012 14:26

can't imagine why you'd think it an over-reaction

Because the sizing at the bottom are not just for this sweat shirt, but as generic guidance.

The sweat shirt is marked for adults, the sizing starts as "small adult" which my 26 ywear old DD would fit into.

It is obviously a put together advert for all the sweat shirts that they sell and someone hasn't thought to change it for certain more 'risky' slogans.

piprabbit · 01/08/2012 15:00

Fair enough that the body of the listing was just lazy and generic.
But.... the sizing at the top - the bit where you choose the size you are actually going to really buy - originally included several child sizes such as 9-11years. So I assume they were prepared to supply tops in those sizes.
They have now removed the child sizes and removed the listing from the childrenswear category which is a positive move.

solidgoldbrass · 01/08/2012 15:06

Some people really have got nothing better to do than have a hissy fit about nothing. Are you the same sort of nutjobs who would ban a book called Hot and Hotter without checking, only to find out it's a cookery book about chillis? (this did happen...)

QueenofQuorn · 01/08/2012 15:07

Hi
Can I just say thanks for all your comments on this even if we don't all agree.
I started this thread because I happened to see that top when my daughter and I were looking for a hoodie on ebay and when I contacted them about it initially they were not that concerned.
The points I would like to make are
If an adult wants to wear that then fine by me. It's not my taste but it's a free country and I don't find it offensive as such but obviously on a child it seems very wrong.
The original ebay listing has the item in childrens clothing and again in adults cllothing and I realise that they have lots of different slogans available but for the childrens listing it would have been better to show I heart JLS or such like and not have the sex one available in the childrens listing.
My personal opinion is that hoodie is not for me and not for my daughter and I wouldn't like to see a kid wearing it.
The saving grace is it seems most of the ebayers agree because no one has bought one in that size anyway.
Iv'e enjoyed your comments and you may see me on her again when I have a bee in my bonnet about something else
Thanks
Helen - aka The Queen of Quorn x
