Has no-one considered that these Stacey Halls may not want their names and addresses plastered all over MN and that the Police, with their trained detectives and top notch databases will have thought about checking the phone book.

If you actually know a Stacey Hall, with a daughter named Ellie by all means, phone the police, but you will be wasting valuable police resources if you start contacting them with information gained from the interweb.

It is a very sad and worrying story I know, but armchair police work is not going to help this little girl.

StetsonsAreCool · 31/07/2012 15:12

Just shared on fb. Makes my blood run cold if she's still there on her own Sad

Flyingwithoutwings · 31/07/2012 15:14

Posted to my fb account. Anyone have any news?

Tigs33 · 31/07/2012 15:15

There is a Stacey Howe who has a 2.5 year old daughter in Wirral (not a million miles away from Leeds) - found this on facebook

Just wondering if the daughter being so young couldn't pronounce her surname correctly.

Her daughter is called Isabelle (perhaps shortened to Elle??)

Catgray82 · 31/07/2012 15:16

Hi it's so sad to think this young girl could be all alone. I did a quick search on Facebook. There is a profile for a Stacey Hall in bately near Leeds. There is an Ealing court near a Robbies
Fish and chip shop (she said she lives near a chippy). Don't know if this should be passed on to the police? If anyone wants to pass it on please do.

threeleftfeet · 31/07/2012 15:19

"It is a very sad and worrying story I know, but armchair police work is not going to help this little girl."

How can you know that for sure?

It's only natural to want to help, and it might.

Don't the police always say "please pass on any piece of information, however small"?
I've never heard them say "don't bother us unless you're sure it's relevant"

threeleftfeet · 31/07/2012 15:20

If people genuinely want to help, then passing the information around the internet could really help.

So, posting this story on the other parenting forums for example - actually any forums you're a member of.

D0oinMeCleanin · 31/07/2012 15:22

It is only natural to want to help and sharing the story to FB newsfeed/bumping threads on MN to keep the story out there is helping. Clogging up call centres, with information you have found on the internet in less than hour when the police have had teams of trained detectives searching all night is not helping.

OlympicRelay · 31/07/2012 15:31

Bump

PenisVanLesbian · 31/07/2012 15:35

Do you not think the police will have thought of an FB search and a scan of the phone book?

Sure, if you have any actual information, please pass it on. But clogging up phone lines with information that is readily available to the police already is not helping, its wasting their time.

Denise34 · 31/07/2012 15:35

The Wirral really isn't anywhere near Leeds. It's on the other side of the country.

Sometimes they can't trace because they bounce from three towers when tracing. They may have an 'idea' where she lives but not an address. Certain locations can also be hard to trace because of poor reception/blockers/walls (not kidding sadly Sad)

Please find Ellie! I hope her mum is okay too! :(

Catgray82 · 31/07/2012 15:58

On Facebook there is a Stacey Hall in Bately, Leeds. The little girl said that she lived near a chip shop. There is a chip shop called robbies in bately near an Ealing Court, she said her road had court in the name. Maybe this could be passed on.

OlympicRelay · 31/07/2012 16:08

What is stopping you passing it on?

OldGreyWiffleTest · 31/07/2012 16:19

The child was on a mobile phone on 02. The operator called her Erin, not Ellie.

latterlov3r · 31/07/2012 16:21

I cant believe this wasnt all over the news YESTERDAY surely it could be displayed as breaking news over all major channels and websites? horrid to think of a 3 year alone for what 30 odd hours so far, im amazed she managed to call 999 and tell them what she did tbh my 6 year still couldnt do that!

lovebunny · 31/07/2012 16:26

isn't it odd that the little girl didn't call again? she'd want someone to talk to. (and the mobile company could track down people in leeds with 33 minute calls at that time of day.)
maybe mum woke up and is keeping her head down. i hope they are ok.

AnarchyIsLoosedUponTheWorld · 31/07/2012 16:27

Has anyone else listened to the 999 call?

It my just be me but that girl sound a lot older than 3, maybe 5 or 6.

The problem with mobile phones is that if it is an unregistered PAYG phone no details will be traceable, and in certain areas it can be very difficult to pinpoint a exact location.

When my niece went missing a few months ago the police were unable to find her, even though her phone was switched on and ringing they could only narrow the search down to a 5 mile radius, which in a city like leeds would make finding this girl impossible.

Feenie · 31/07/2012 16:27

It's a hoax - Sky news says it was 2 10 year old girls.

TittyWhistles · 31/07/2012 16:29

Hoax.

RaisinDEritrea · 31/07/2012 16:46

here

OlympicRelay · 31/07/2012 16:48

Being ten, they will be in big trouble.

threeleftfeet · 31/07/2012 16:54

OMG, that's one heap of trouble for the 10 year olds!!

Half the country were looking for them!

Although it's maybe a bit silly to say it now, I did think the child sounded older when I first played the audio clip and suspected a hoax, as they answered the handler's questions very definitely. My DS is 3, and i don't think he would have understood the question about the letter or the window so readily, for example.

But then i listened again and thought "no, I'm being cynical, the voice does sound like a little one".
