Being tied up and bossed about by a man doesn't make me go weak at the knees? Or am I just weird?

I agree and I haven't even read the book. I glanced at it in Smiths and thought it was too badly written to think about buying it.
Three women at work bang on about it incessantly. One is the managing director, she is an independant, wealthy woman. Make you think.

I have no interest in reading it. In fact the more people go on about it the more I feel want to ignore the whole thing!

Not sure what you lot think but I was very surprised to see that these books are on a normal stand, well publicised and available for children to pick up and read. I guess no pictures mean that it won't be tip shelf?

Of course maybe Im a total prude or have missed something !!

peedoffbird · 30/07/2012 08:10

"top" shelf!

Absolutely!

samandi · 30/07/2012 08:51

Yawn.

anychocswilldo · 30/07/2012 09:40

I read all 3, I don't know why as they really are crap! Confused Christian Grey really disturbs me and whatsherface is just monumentally irritating no wonder he wants to hit her all the time The sex just gets boring coz there is sooooo much of it, I actually skipped past most of it, I mean how many ways can he tie her up and hit her with things. I don't think the whole Dom/Sub situation is an issue, for me its more about the controlling, manipulative and almost abusive way the lead male character treats the lead female character. Women everywhere are swooning over Christian Grey, tbh I would run in the opposite direction ASAP!

Madeyemoodysmum · 30/07/2012 10:16

Mother in law told us she was reading it yesterday. Not an image I want to imagine. Ew!!!!!

tuckchop · 30/07/2012 11:00

the author has just struck lucky with "grey" women like reading about very rich men dominating their gender.

alemci · 30/07/2012 11:08

i don't want to read it either. it sounds really tacky.

PlumpDogPillionaire · 30/07/2012 11:16

If you haven't been gullible enough to read 50 Shades, FGS DON'T BOTHER READING IT!

It's really not worth it - even to laugh at blogs, etc. - and it's depressing that it takes up the amount of space it does. It pisses me off that anyone who has read it will never, ever get that time back, that paper has been used to create this book, it takes up space on shelves, etc...

WithoutCaution · 30/07/2012 11:38

Sighs... There are so many better Dom/sub books out there.

My Gran, my Ds's Great Gran has just bought it Shock

Really do need a being sick smiley

IHaveAFeatureWallAndILikeIt · 30/07/2012 11:41

I haven't read 50SOG but I was under the impression that it wasn't a sub/dom relationship as it lacks consent and is just abusive. It is not good for sub/dom culture if that is the impression that a lot of people will now have of it.

whackamole · 30/07/2012 11:42

I'm not going to read it. If I want erotic fiction, I'll read something that doesn't sound like it was written by a barely literate fifteen year old. I'm not into BDSM personally, but it's my understanding the sex isn't even that titillating.

This is my opinion based on various blogs by the way!

theressomethingaboutmarie · 30/07/2012 11:43

What irritates me most about it is that this poorly written turd of a book is defining women right now. So many are going on and on about it with the idea that openly talking about BDSM is making them 'liberated' or whatever. Reading erotic literature is just FINE!!

Read what the hell you like but don't let it define you; it's OKAY to be interested in sex, to discuss it and to read about it. Women have fought for equality for years so really, get over yourselves and remember that it's fine to enjoy sex.

solidgoldbrass · 30/07/2012 11:51

It's shit but it's given a boost to those of us that write proper erotic fiction.

MyinnergoddessisatLidl · 30/07/2012 11:58

oh solid I want to read proper erotic fiction.

Please be my dom and order me in the right direction to find some.

I don't want an "impressive length", I want a big hot purple glistening c*ck!

alemci · 30/07/2012 15:04

i don't particularly want to read erotic fiction. I would rather read something well written which is probably where this book is a let down.

perhaps i am being a bit snobby.

also i would be quite embarassed to be seen reading it TBH.

i made a joke about it at our school book group where i work and somehow i don't think teacher who runs it is dying for us to read it and discuss it - cringe. it isa staff group BTW

solidgoldbrass · 30/07/2012 15:12

Alemci: There is plenty of well-written erotic fiction available. Erotic fiction is like all genre fiction, some of it is rubbish written by lamers and/or obsessives, some of it's competent hackwork and some of it is very good indeed.

MaisyMooCow · 30/07/2012 15:13

I loved it.

ANameForAllSeasons · 30/07/2012 15:15

yanbu. I think a book which talks about how an unborn baby likes sex already is just vile, not to mention the fact that people think this mr Grey is somehow desirable - WTF!? I know young women who are reading this and actually think it's wonderful. I feel sick.

lunchbox · 30/07/2012 15:50

Try reading 'bared to you' by Sylvia day, similar storyline, rich gorgeous bloke with abusive childhood but the female protagonist is likeable and stands up for herself against the sexy yet dominating boyfriend. And slightly more realistic sex scenes too Wink
