I've got prickly heat all over my arms and face, I am clawing at it, it is so blooming itchy. I need some help please, every morning I wake up worse than the day before.

Taking antihistamines. It does die down through the day if I keep cool.

DD also has chickenpox, so it'd be pretty useful right now.

Can you use an antihistamine cream? (I guess you'd need to talk to a doctor / pharmacist about whether it was suitable for regular use)

I guess you've tried cool baths / cold flannels on it ?

civilfawlty · 28/07/2012 10:18

Some porridge oats in a muslin held in the stream of the tap water when running a bath really helps my dd's eczema. Also bicarb in the bath helps with chicken pox itches. Good luck.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 28/07/2012 10:18

E45 itch relief cream is good.

Don't know if it can be used for chicken pox though.

JumpingThroughHoops · 28/07/2012 10:19

Eurax cream - use it for anything, its far better than calomine, isn't greasy. V good for chicken pox too!

(((My brilliant pharmacist)))

A bath with a cloth bag of oatmeal run under the tap, for chicken pox,

Keep out of the UV light, so as not to irritate the prickly heat, keep going for swims, take antihistamine and use antihistamine cream.

calendula cream is also good,

drink lots of water, camomile tea helps.

OP if you scratch then it'll make you feel good for a moment but will make the itch worse. However, if you put pressure on the itch it will relieve it a little bit but will not inflame the itch.

Choose one point that you can focus on and imagine that that is the ONLY itchy bit. Allow yourself to relieve the itch (by pressure not scratching) every few minutes. You need to train your brain to ignore the itch. Itchiness comes in waves (you may not feel this at the moment but you can focus your brain to acknowledge it).

I am a long term sufferer of psoriasis and over the years have had some extensive outbreaks to deal with. This is the way that I cope.

It does work if you can get over the initial horrific itchy feeling...

Pascha · 28/07/2012 10:25

You could try Magicool Plus prickly heat spray. Its supposed to be quite good for short periods.

Eurax, all the way. great stuff.

NiceCupOfTeaAndASitDown · 28/07/2012 10:29

Another recommendation for eurax cream, it always sorts out my itchy eczema

SparklingGoldMedals · 28/07/2012 10:30

I might get some today actually. I have under boobage rash due to the heat. Sad

WorraLiberty · 28/07/2012 10:30

Eurax has to be the best cream ever invented for itching.

When my DS was ill, he broke out in hives and it was brilliant for it.

I'm allergic to the sun and come out in tiny chicken pox like blisters that really itch...and Eurax is brilliant for that too.

whackamole · 28/07/2012 10:32

I like Medihoney for really bad itches (I have chronic eczema) but it is very very expensive. Your doctor might prescribe it for you, it's about £15 a tube otherwise!

DesperatelySeekingPomBears · 28/07/2012 10:36

I vote Eurax as well. Miracle stuff.

lowercase · 28/07/2012 10:37

vinegar.
google it.

Jo178 · 28/07/2012 10:55

I get severe prickly heat to the point of blistering and the only thing that has ever worked for me and even stopped the rash from coming out is a homeopathic remedy called Sol Britannic I get mine from online shop Helios. I've tried every anti-histamine going and this is the only one that works. It generally takes a few days to get into your system so for the itching I take Urtica Urens which is available from the same place.

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 28/07/2012 11:04

I'm going to go see a nurse, because this is getting to the point of blistering now, and I am struggling to not rip the skin off when I want to scratch it. I need something for my face, because it's bad there too.

OP posts:
theodorakis · 28/07/2012 11:04

I get the same, I use Lidocaine gel only about 75p a tube. Not sure if it is otc in UK though

cozietoesie · 28/07/2012 11:05

And also - and very important (applies to thrush as well) - don't use any detergents on your skin. No ordinary bath/shower lotions or soap etc, just E45 if you've got some.

(There's a temptation when you're itching and sore to go for a shower or a bath which will give some very temporary relief but in the end, having a shower or bath with normal products will just dry the skin out and make things worse and worse. Just plain water for everything and E45 bath lotion/cream should help.)

Watch the diet as well. Make sure you're eating well and drinking lots of water.

Best of luck. I know how it feels!

theodorakis · 28/07/2012 11:08

When mine has been really bad I have a week of oral steroids. I would never see a nurse for medical advice, why not see a doctor

EnglishGirlApproximately · 28/07/2012 11:20

Magicool for a quick fix. I'm allergic to everything (including DP Grin) and I use the Aveeno range for bathing, moisturising etc. It won't help today to get rid of the rash you already have but if you use it as your regular skincare range it help prevent rashes

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 28/07/2012 11:45

Luke warm bath with a spoon full of bicarbonate of soda in it, only thing that stopped me itching when I had prickly heat a few weeks ago

Mandy2003 · 28/07/2012 11:46

Calomine lotion, put it on with cotton wool and sit in front of a cool fan to dry it off.

cozietoesie · 28/07/2012 12:18

mandy

I'm afraid that calamine is one of the things that I was referring to above. I've found it to dry the skin out and be really counter-productive once the initial 'cool feeling' goes.

rainydaysarebad · 28/07/2012 12:29

Aveeno. From Boots. Swear by it.
