Would you?

It's so bloody hot. But I'm a bit scared. I've opened and shut the window 10+ times.....so indecisive!

Sirzy · 27/07/2012 23:35

I wouldn't but I have an irrational fear of sleeping with windows open anyway

Casmama · 27/07/2012 23:35

No chance. I wouldn't be able to sleep.

fanjobiscuits · 27/07/2012 23:37

I wouldn't either.

medievalgirl · 27/07/2012 23:37

Hmmm... maybe depends where you live.

I had a man tried to climb into my first floor window once whilst I was getting ready for bed. Kinda put me off leaving the window open. But if you're somewhere undodgy, it's probably OK.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/07/2012 23:37

Personally no.

I'm sure there's some clause in House Insurance about Due Care and Attention. If anything happened, they'd hold you negilegent for providing a method of entry and access Hmm

musicposy · 27/07/2012 23:37

What sort of area do you live in? I always leave windows open even though they are above flat roofs etc and someone could easily climb in. I never worry, even when DH is on nights. I don't think I've locked the back door in about 10 years, either.

But we live in a virtually zero crime area out in the sticks. I'm not sure I'd do this in a city centre.

bejeezus · 27/07/2012 23:38

Really?

I thought you'd all tell me not to ne a fairy

I don't know if I can sleep in this heat anyhows

Should have said....only little window at top is openable....

Does that make it safer/better?

And...
if you have a lie in tomorrow you might wake up to some great hairy arsed builder bum crack mooning at you.

Gross stereotyping there and need for brain bleach Grin

bejeezus · 27/07/2012 23:40

O live on a really crime ridden area....although very very little burgarly....because no one here had owt to steal! This is where the burgulars live! They go to other parts where the pickings are richer....

But, it is presenting an opportunity innit

OP posts:
bejeezus · 27/07/2012 23:42

Ok medieval I think you just made my decision

OP posts:
Noqontrol · 27/07/2012 23:47

No. Have you got a fan?

lovebunny · 27/07/2012 23:48

yes, but thank you for reminding me i need to close the window in the rabbit room...

bejeezus · 27/07/2012 23:53

No I don't have a fan. But great idea. I'll get one tomorrow

Rabbit room, lovebunny?

OP posts:
SquashedSquirrel · 28/07/2012 00:00

No, friend was burgled in exactly your circs

lovebunny · 28/07/2012 00:08

did i say rabbit room, bejeezus? don't tell me you don't have a rabbit room. i thought everyone had a rabbit room...

bejeezus · 28/07/2012 00:09

I've closed the Windows. But now I'm freaked out, even with them closed! Do you think keeping my bedroom light on will discourage potential burgulars??

Need to belt up....

OP posts:
PigletJohn · 28/07/2012 00:09

you've got a house. Has it got a loft hatch? Leave it open, and natural convection will cause airflow up through the house and out through the roof.

It will work better if you have an open window somewhere, but even a letterbox will let quite a draught through.

If burglars are fundamentally lazy, they will choose a house with an open window and scaffolding in preference to one that is secure. Similarly if they are intelligent and hard-working and studied Return On Investment at business school.

bejeezus · 28/07/2012 00:10

That would confuse a burgular lovebunny

Krumbum · 28/07/2012 00:11

My bedroom has double french doors leading to garden. No windows. So we sleep with the doors open. So yeah I think I would, it's too hot for closed windows!

Noqontrol · 28/07/2012 00:11

No. Put your hall light on if you have one. Sleeping with the light on gives me a headache.

bejeezus · 28/07/2012 00:12

john its, I've opened all windows at back of house. Heat is not too bad now. Just the eebie-jeebies to contend with now!

OP posts:
bejeezus · 28/07/2012 00:13

krum you say we. I am just me... and dcs

OP posts:
Krumbum · 28/07/2012 00:15

I did it before fiancée moved in. But it probably is a bit stupid... I just don't think about it lol. Do you have a fan?

PigletJohn · 28/07/2012 00:29

Just to cheer you up...

some chums rented a Spanish villa two years ago. On their first night, they all went out, mostly got tanked up, went back, opened all the windows and patio doors (didn't roll down the blinds), crashed out in the heat.

A couple of hours later, when they were all snoring their hedas off, one of them was awoken by someone scooping watches and jewellery off the dressing table. Turns out the local ne'erdowells are familiar with the practice of Brits not being used to hot weather and going to sleep with the doors and windows open, and crop a good harvest by trawling round the villas on hot nights.

lovebunny · 28/07/2012 01:01

bejeezus that would confuse a burglar...

too damn right. and the first girlie would bite his leg.
