...particularly if you live in an effin' terraced house.

My first night off for weeks is being completely fucking ruined by my neighbour's lack of consideration.

I could just weep. Lord of the Sodding Rings too...

go round and tell them to turn it down then

twofingerstoGideon · 27/07/2012 22:01

Thanks thisisyesterday. Really helpful. Do you think I haven't tried that?

YANBU I 'enjoyed' Dirty Dancing the other week and nearly jumped for joy when she told me they were swapping their downstairs rooms round.

twofingerstoGideon · 27/07/2012 22:11

I just don't get it. When people go out to buy these things, don't they for one minute think about their neighbours? I can't imagine being that selfish...

well i'm not a mind-reader, no.

if it's very loud you can involve environmental health

olimpia · 27/07/2012 22:15

So what did the neighbours say?

twofingerstoGideon · 27/07/2012 22:17

Told me to fuck off actually.
Thanks for asking Grin

Is lord of rings one of those never ending films? Gosh that's so rude!! Sad

twofingerstoGideon · 27/07/2012 22:22

Yes, it's interminable. I think it goes on for about sixteen hours...

OP posts:
forevergreek · 27/07/2012 22:23

It's before 11pm so I doubt much you can do

twofingerstoGideon · 27/07/2012 22:25

I know. Just wanted a rant! (And some sympathy...)

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 27/07/2012 22:29

doensn't matter if it's before 11pm.
you can call EH for things like dogs that bark all day and stuff like that.
basically if they're being a nuisance they can be made to stop.

thisisyesterday · 27/07/2012 22:30

here

forevergreek · 28/07/2012 07:38

It's not really. Wing a nuisance though is it? It's a couple of hours max of noise that you don't really appreciate. Yes 24/7 would become annoying but what they are doing is generally living a life ( same as washing machine/ Hoover at 10pm)

twofingerstoGideon · 28/07/2012 08:17

Really? The same as a washing machine or hoover? Loud music and booming voices drowning out my own television night after night... I can assure you it is a nuisance!

So 'living a life' means it's fine to disturb your neighbours just because you feel like it?

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 28/07/2012 09:26

if it's over a certain volume it would be considered a nuisance. also if it's late at night/constant etc etc

Dawndonna · 28/07/2012 10:52

Record it and get environmental health involved.

Not if it's blaring . But if thin walls it may sound worse than it is. I know we have a super quiet hoover but might sound loud next door, like wise neighbours have tv on but if you are in their living room it really isnt loud but sounds like its louder from our house

Yes people live a life without noise but also consider what ' life' others have.

We work 7am-8pm
Neighbour one side works nights ( approx 9pm- 6am)
And neighbour the other side works from lunchtime into the eve

Does that mean that mowing our lawn at 10am is a nuisance? ( disclaimer we have no lawn!) no as yes others may be sleeping but we are on a different schedule.

I wouldn't expect someone to keep silent just as they don't confirm to my personal schedule. Yes it's unpleasant but not the end of the world.

Mrsjay · 28/07/2012 17:07

I made my husband get rid of the surround sound I shit myself watching a film on it saving private ryan in surround sound Shock , we live in a 2 bed house ffs I said unplug it there is a dear

rainydaysarebad · 28/07/2012 17:11

YANBU. My brother lives in a terraced house and has a 60inch plasma screen and a home cinema system. They also owe me 5k, so I've essentially paid for it.

Noqontrol · 28/07/2012 17:16

Phone environmental health.

panicnotanymore · 28/07/2012 17:16

If it is an ongoing problem environmental health will fit a sound monitoring system in your house, and serve a noise abatement order if the sound level is considered loud enough to be 'a nuisance'. They did this for us when we had a problem with a neighbouring restaurant's extractor fan.

NB If you are thinking about selling your house you may not want to do this, as you will have to declare problems with neighbours to potential buyers.

puds11 · 28/07/2012 17:18

Bah!! lord of the cocking rings indeed! I couldnt think of anything worse to over hear, perhaps maybe porn Nope would rather listen to the porn.

Longdistance · 28/07/2012 17:20

Play fire with fire is what I say!

Get a better surround sound system, and turn it up, when a) they're at home and it's quiet, and B) to drown out their noise. Try getting one that booms, and shakes the walls.

I on occassions used to blare my music system loud when I lived on my own, and worked shifts, as my neighbour would quite happily disturb me first. I used to drown their dross out. T'was rather pleasing when they had to switch their music off, as mine drowned their's out Grin
