And if in one family you park two 2012 plate cars (audi and bmw) in a sea front car park that's a mere £4.50 (which in my tight arse opinions pretty good) for a whole day in peak season and choose not to pay parking and you get a fine, he is not a cunt and your in fact a bit of a twat!

And using "well I've not had a ticket all day but you ticket me as I'm going home what's the point" is not a good defence.

Sirzy · 27/07/2012 18:18

Not sure why the cars they drive matter but if they haven't paid they deserve to get a ticket

StateofConfusion · 27/07/2012 18:24

My thinking with stating the cars was imo they didn't appear skint, whereas if it was a banged up old fiesta I'd have had a fraction of pitty. And the parking attendant had said to me and dp as we loaded our car its usually new cars who don't pay and display.

I'm no saint we've had tickets for being slow getting back to the car and once I totally forgot.

Salmotrutta · 27/07/2012 18:28

So someone called the parking attendant a c**t for doing his job? Shock

That's horrible.

I bet parking attendants get treated like that all the time though, sadly.

StateofConfusion · 27/07/2012 18:36

He said he rarely gets a full day without abuse, and has been attacked before. He wasn't just name called but told he'd ruined there day, I work I don't get much time off etc etc, so pay the £4.50 mate! Can't say I was too impressed with my £60 fine in town last year when I was a dopey cow and forgot BUT I was mortified and got in the car very red faced, dp is the driver but had to rush off so he came back to meet me very unimpressed.

Not going to lie, I am always a little pleased when I see people getting ticketed or clamped.
It's one of the fairest and universally applied systems, if you park legally or pay you won't be punished (in the main I know everyone has there own stories)

peeriebear · 27/07/2012 18:41

I think they should be allowed to add an extra charge on top for being sworn at. :o
We've had a ticket before, for not paying and displaying- it was completely our fault and we've paid ever since! (or not parked there.)

Debeez · 27/07/2012 19:26

YANBU OP. I know that word gets used a lot here and I can practically hears the snickers and giggles as it's typed sometimes, but to call someone that for earning a wage is disgusting.

"Not going to lie, I am always a little pleased when I see people getting ticketed or clamped."

Me too! I want to be a parking officer. I hate bad parking, people in disabled bays without badges or genuine reason, people who think the rules don't apply to them.... I'm such a sucker for a nice set of fairly applied rules

I've never really understood people getting angry at being caught doing the wrong thing. the indignation is hilarious. speeding tickets are the same.

Similarly, a friend works in a well known high st shop and catches shoplifters regularly, every person she has caught has indignantly had a go at her and sworn etc. I always presumed she'd get sob stories and pleading apologies. But no. Righteous indignation at being caught - how peculiar Confused

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/07/2012 19:40

Debeez Grin When my DD leaves her school (she's going to be Yr 6 so next year) I'm going to apply to be a P/T Parking Officer -but only if I can do school roads as part of my shifts.

The excercise, the uniform, the comfy shoes. It will be a revenge alter ego (I work in NHS, so have to have a caring face. I can perfect my "whatever" face)
I wonder how many school runners (eek the phrase school run makes me stabby) will tell me I am NBU Grin

Matesnotdates · 27/07/2012 19:43

Yanbu. And four pounds fifty is a bargain. We live in a seaside town and it's a lot more than that here. Be anarchy without a parking attendant.

Pandemoniaa · 27/07/2012 20:19

£4.50 for a whole day? That's a fraction of what it'd cost to park in a seaside car park in this neck of the woods.

I particularly dislike arseholes who feel that parking restrictions apply to everyone except them and to compound this by calling the attendant a cunt makes them beyond the pale.

KenLeeeeeee · 27/07/2012 20:22

YANBU.

Not going to lie, I am always a little pleased when I see people getting ticketed or clamped.

I agree! I used to live in an area which was residents parking only but because it was right next to a school, parents used to park there All The Time for drop offs/pick ups. I used to LOVE watching the attendant go round slapping fines on people's windscreens. He actually clamped a repeat offender one morning. The fallout from that when she got back to the car was amazing. I wish I'd filmed it.

picnicbasketcase · 27/07/2012 20:23

You must need a very thick skin to be a parking attendant, I've seen the one we get round here get shouted and sworn at a few times. I think I'd find it rather upsetting.

AhsataN · 27/07/2012 20:49

if they thought the risk of paying £30 or £40 for a days parking was a better deal then £4.50 then they are the cunts.
my friend is a traffic warden and the abuse she gets especially from mothers and children is disgusting. men threatening her, shouting abuse as she has a cleft lip. i don't know how she does her job each day. children pointing and laughing at her face and the mothers just ignoring it and letting the kids get away with it just because shes a parking warden. complete fuck wits!

StateofConfusion · 27/07/2012 22:39

I think that's why me and dp were so amazed people hadn't paid, £4.50 for a day parking on the sea front literally up some steps and your on the beach, I was expecting £10-15 atleast. Were pretty skint and can afford that for a day out!

And yes I judged because they had big flashy brand new cars, if it was a diddy 2012 aygo I would have shrugged as much as a old banger but they cars they had, clothes etc they were clearly not skint, just pushing there luck.

70isa love the nn, also school run parking attendant would be a VERY busy job, also traffic cops at school time here, awful driving, on the phone, unsecured kids etc.

AhsataN your friend deserves a medal, or a bloody big christmas bonus!

MsVestibule · 27/07/2012 22:52

Isn't it actually illegal to be so verbally abusive to somebody? They should all be fitted with cameras on their hats - the technology has been available for years, it should be used.

I bet the offender would be appalled to see themselves on camera behaving like that just like I would be if anybody filmed me shouting at my DCs Blush.

StateofConfusion · 28/07/2012 00:35

--same here msV--

Me and dp did have a brief chat with the bloke and say how do you do your job etc, he did say he was relieved we were there as as soon as the chap said cunt, dp shouted "oi watch the language" and that kind of fizzled his temper down. Attendant did look rather anxious poor sod. Ds offered him a party ring Grin

OP posts:
giraffesCantTakePartInThe100ms · 28/07/2012 00:52

Grin at party ring

LRDtheFeministDragon · 28/07/2012 00:54

I really hate it too. And I am disorganized so have got tickets myself. It never made me want to call anyone except myself names.

Someone have a facebook meme about karma with 'smile at a parking warden' as one of the good karma options and for some reason it stuck in my mind and I try to do it as I reckon they get a rough time.

StateofConfusion · 28/07/2012 01:15

It was a mini party ring, pink one and all, ds isn't one for sharing food, made the chap smile :)

OP posts:
StunningCunt · 28/07/2012 01:16

I like not paying for parking. I do sometimes pay but if I can get away with not, then I won't. Just one of those things. Wouldn't abuse the warden though.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 28/07/2012 10:32

Yeah, the rest of us just adore paying for parking. I myself find it the absolute high point of my day.

(WTF? Confused)

3duracellbunnies · 28/07/2012 10:53

I do often park in the 2hrs free spaces etc, but I reason if I am willing to walk a bit, limit my shopping sprees and the council are willing not to charge, then why not. I always respect the traffic wardens. I explain to my children that they are there to make it fair so everyone gets a turn, just as the dc have to take turns e.g. On the computer. I also stop when we see one and explain in front of the traffic warden what an important job they do making it fair for everyone, and that they are one of 'those people' along with shop keepers, police, parents with children etc who would help them if they were in trouble. Makes them smile and feel valued. Good on you traffic wardens!
