For example.......

Me going up a hill. Cars parked the other side of the road.

Blatently obvious it is my right of wsy.

Silly cow in a car the size of a combine barreling down towards me.

I sat and shook my head.

She got angry and waved her arms around.

Oh how I enjoyed it.

State, according to highway code rule 179 you are correct, vehicles should sit just to the left of the centre line when waiting to turn right in order to avoid blocking the flow of traffic. It is one of my pet hates also.

Sam, well done on passing your driving test. You will now learn how to drive!
I understand your enthusiasm but have found your tone a little patronising in some of your posts, eg questioning an experienced driver as to her spatial awareness.

ViviPru · 27/07/2012 17:12

FireOverBabylon I look forward to the day we piss each other off on the Queen's highway and end up locked in a battle of who can muster the jauntiest wave Grin

I got tailgated for nearly ten miles the other day by a young woman in a mini with pink stars applied to the bonnet, IME women with girly trim on their cars drive like boy racers.
I was driving at the speed limit by the way, not creeping along, although I wa tempted to slowdown just to annoy her.

oldraver · 27/07/2012 17:20

I have been tailgated on a road that has a 50 mph limit while I was doing 50... then over taken and the car zoom off in to the distance. This has happened almost everyday for months the road is 50 for a reason you twonks and I know by your blue shirts/green overalls/silly shaped hats your are all RAF

rainydaysarebad · 27/07/2012 17:23

wigglybeezer - did her headlights have eyelashes too? This is a new craze...looks hilariously stupid.

ViviPru · 27/07/2012 17:25

I can confidently say that I am pretty meticulously follow the two second rule mantra unless you are driving at 68mph in the outside lane on the M1 for a prolonged period of time and there is nothing in the middle lane in which case I will be unleashing all 340bhp on your sorry ass

MaryHansack · 27/07/2012 17:26

if anyone tailgates me I jab my foot at the brake,v quickly. that scares them off.

MarysBeard · 27/07/2012 17:28

For me, it really depends what the error in their driving is. I think even the best drivers make mistakes, or misinterpret a situation sometimes so I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. But aggressive, fast driving always angers me as I tend to think it's not a one off, but indicative of how they usually drive.

MarysBeard · 27/07/2012 17:29

If someone tailgates me I go even slower.

NettoSuperstar · 27/07/2012 17:33

I get tailgated by idiot guys with small penises men because I drive a tiny car with pink stuff in it, and if I dare overtake, they have to go back past me, just have to.
I always keep my distance, it's safer and I'd rather have warning if the knob in front is going to do something idiotic.
I was right in the middle of Glasgow today, and saw some shit driving.

ViviPru · 27/07/2012 17:33

If someone tailgates me I go even slower.

I do this in the villages. My route involves a lot of lane-village-lane. I hate it when I observe the village's speed limit and the driver behind gets all up in my (rear) grill. Makes me go even slower. Only in the villages though. No one is ever stuck behind the PruMobile in the lanes

wigglybeezer · 27/07/2012 17:43

That's the type of route I was on , windy road with accident black spot corner, village with 30 signs, more bends, etc.. Do tailgaters think they are going to make you go faster? Grrr

juneau · 27/07/2012 18:03

DS1 came out with a classic the other day. Fat bloke in obnoxiously huge car driving towards us did something asinine (can't remember what now), and I said a very restrained 'Oh for goodness sake' and DS1 pipes up from the back 'That man's a stupid arse isn't he mummy!'

NoVegBeforeSkeg · 27/07/2012 18:24

Yanbu.
Some people are just total plonkers.

I was overtaken once by someone with the same car as me.
Then they saw the big yellow camera up ahead and slammed on the brakes.
I was doing 29mph in a 30 (according to sat nav)

Tosser, we've got the same crap car. It's not as though mine can't go as fast as yours Hmm

StateofConfusion · 27/07/2012 18:29

oldraver you must live near me or another raf base is on an awful road and has a lot of insane drivers.

We get bullied dp sayes because I made him buy a multipla "no one tailgated when I had a zafira"

fullofregrets · 27/07/2012 18:50

If I sigh loudly whilst driving ds (3) says 'is it a moron again mummy?'

oldraver · 02/08/2012 13:52

State I have been travelling to Swindon via Blunsdon a lot and I assume it is the lot from Lyneham that still live there. I also drive a little yellow car that isnt really sporty but has that look about it and I sometimes think people are goading you, thinking you will be racing off all over the shop

spg1983 · 02/08/2012 14:12

My brother and his wife live in the same village as us, where there are lots of weird traffic-calming measures including a place where one side of the road is totally blocked, meaning you have to wait until the other side of the road is totally clear (and will stay clear for the next few seconds) as you have to drive on the other side of the road to get round it.

Anyway, lots of people hate it and are sometimes a bit dangerous in how quickly they pull out around it as they can't be bothered to wait for the oncoming car and decide to make the oncoming traffic do an emergency stop instead, even though they have right of way.

My brother was on the side of the road where he had right of way and should have been able to go straight through, but one day this idiot (who was at the front of a queue of about 20 cars- he must've been there for a while) decided to pull out really last-minute in front of my brother. Anyone else in that situation would have stopped and let the idiot through. But my brother carried on and forced this bloke to stop before he got round so he was stuck on the wrong side of the road. My brother then refused to reverse and forced the idiot to reverse back past all 20 cars and rejoin the queue at the back - he was NOT happy!!

I love stories like that-just wish I had the guts to follow things through like my bro did!

keely027 · 02/08/2012 16:01

I read that wrong....I thought you said to shake your head at people shitting in your drive...been on mumnet too Long...must put down and do something else

WithoutCaution · 02/08/2012 16:50

People who don't know how to indicate at roundabouts are annoying.

Don't indicate that you are taking the first exit if in fact you are taking the second. If you don't know how to indicate (did you actually have driving lessons/ pass your test??) then don't. That way no one will take your incorrect indicating seriously and drive into you Angry

Can you tell that the above annoys me?

HarrietSchulenberg · 02/08/2012 17:02

I was taught to take no notice of how people indicate as they might well be wrong - you have to assume the vehicle won't turn off until it actually makes the turn.

I was also taught that the worst driver on the road is the driver in the car behind the car in front of you! Not that I take much notice of these days - I am steadfast in my belief that I am the best driver ever and everyone else on the road is pants Grin.

tryingtonotfeckup · 02/08/2012 17:17

spg, love your brother for that, awesome, I wish I could do that.

I've just got back from taking DCs out in the woods, its rural lanes, not wide with lots of bends. Its not a long drive but cars keep coming round the corner partially over the white line so I have to brake and hope that they manage to get all of their car back over the white line onto their side of the road. I do go over the line when I can see the road ahead but not around a blind corner. Why....
