To be freaked out by my DDs imaginary friend.

She's called GIRL. She only comes out at night. One night when I'd had some bad dreams my DD said 'that's because girl was in your bed mummy'. Apparently girl also stands at the bottom of my bed while we sleep (horror film style). Is this normal??? My DD is not yet 3. Her imaginary friend seems a bit scary. Maybe I've watched too many horror films lol. She used to have one called Karen who was much less freaky :)

mumnosbest she's not scared or worried at all. Just talks about it completely normally. It's me who's a bit freaked. I haven't showed her that though.

She has an imaginary friend who likes to watch over you when you sleep. I think thats sweet actually. You're putting your own fears/classic horror movie interpretations onto it Smile

KellyElly · 26/07/2012 21:17

WilsonFrickett that's a much better way of viewing it. It's those Paranormal Activity films I think!!

Oh for sure it is! I have a very clear image in my head and it's giving me the willies! But again, that's my picture, not your DDs. She's probably just looking for reassurance that you do go to bed at night and don't spend all night playing with toys and eating sweets. or is that just what my DS thinks?

KellyElly · 26/07/2012 21:32

WilsonFrickett that sounds like a great night (still a child myself at heart)

misread as 'playing with boys and eating sweets...'

olibeansmummy · 26/07/2012 21:35

Ds has an imaginary friend called Henry. He's clearly made up as ds tells contradictory stories about him, but it's still creepy sometimes!

mumnosbest · 26/07/2012 21:35

they are scary films! i like the guardian angel idea better. i had mc early on between my 1st 2 dcs so when dd talks of an imaginary friend i like to think its her big sis. if it was a scary 'friend' dd would be worried by it. Think of it as either dd has a good imaginatipn or someone looking out for her (and you)

Tallalime · 26/07/2012 21:36

DD has goblins, plural. They do all the naughty things that we notice (and probably more besides). There is also a Goblin King.

Husband blames me because I let her watch Labyrinth. I think they're kind of cute. Often, when we go out, they follow behind us in their own car. It's a pink car.

imsotired · 26/07/2012 21:37

my dd's had imaginary friends since she could talk. i took it as a sign of an active imagination, but i never interacted with the freinds, just said 'oh thats nice' when dd told me about something they had done or said. it gave her comfort, which is fine by me.

when she was 6 there were hundreds of Rosies, roses, roselle, rosella, rosebud etc.

we havent heard much from the imaginary freinds recently, but i wont be bothered if we do.

sununu · 26/07/2012 21:39

I had ds3 lying in bed next to me the other night after a nightmare, hissing urgently 'don't close your eyes mummy, you must watch out for The Man.. Mummy, are your eyes closed, you have to look out for him...' etc. I was quite freaked out.

FannyFifer · 26/07/2012 21:39

Dd who is 2 1/2 has a "friend" called Georgie, she plays in her room with him and he either sleeps in her bed or sometimes in between me and DP, [shudders]

KellyElly · 26/07/2012 21:39

My son (now 13) had an "imaginary" friend called Conner when he was 3. He was never there in the daytime but used to visit my son at night and tell him about the world. The first we knew of him was when my son came down on morning and asked us about a boat sinking on the Thames Estuary in 1944 and it was called Richard!!!

We googled it and sure enough the Richard Montgomery was an american liberty ship which was carrying munitions when it ran aground. We were totally freaked out. There were a few other true stories that he couldn;t have known about too (some that I had never even heard of) When we asked our son how he had heard about it he told us it was one of the stories that Connor told him at night. We asked who connor was and he said it was a boy who lived in africa.

Connor suddenly disappeared one night and never came back - our son doesn't remember a thing about it now and nor does he remember the stories!

Tallalime · 26/07/2012 21:45

I love Labyrinth too, that's why she' seen it. She's very attached to her Goblins (Doblins) but they are a right pain in the arse.

I may steal David Bowie as the Goblin King to be my imaginary friend though Wink

Silverlace · 26/07/2012 21:53

We have gruffalos in our house. Both DC talk about them. They follow us in a car (it is orange) or sometimes sit on the roof.

There is a grandma and Grandad gruffalo who live in Bridlington. I have a lovely image in my head of an old lady gruffalo in a thick coat and hat clutching a handbag walking along the prom!

letsblowthistacostand · 26/07/2012 21:56

A friend's child had one called "Bobbo" when he was 3. He would be playing and stop, look around, and say "...Bobbo's here..." It was so, so creepy.

lovebunny · 26/07/2012 21:58

Tallalime lol david bowie as an imaginary friend
he's been my imaginary friend since 1972...and we never do more than talk...

KellyElly · 26/07/2012 22:02

nokidshere wow! That can only be explained as paranormal. It doesn't sound scary though it sounds very spirital and nice.

lovebunny I'm ordering Labarynth from amazon tomorrow. I used to LOVE that film. Made me think of another film I used to love 'Troll' although I think that was borderline scary when I was young.
