AIBU to have expected DH to feed our children?

Genuine reality check question here, before I question whether I'm going mad.

I've had a sudden and unexpected bout of the runs this afternoon. It's wiped me out. So much so that I asked DH to take our DC (7 and 4) to his Mum's for the afternoon. I rarely ask.

I've just phoned to see if they've enjoyed - they have - BUT, he's not made them/bought them ANY food. MIL has given them the standard bar of choc and cup of squash. When I sounded put-out, he played the "You should have told me to feed them" card. They've not had anything to eat since they left, shortly after lunch (beans on toast).

It's not me, is it?! Really? He should bloody know to feed his own children?!

Wot a plonker

MsOnatopp · 26/07/2012 19:56

hahaha, he should, but maybe give him the benefit of the doubt. It was sudden, maybe it knocked him a bit and made him forgetful and he wasn't thinking straight... or something :o

NomNomingiaDePlum · 26/07/2012 19:56

definitely not you. a plank, they would call him where grew up.

NomNomingiaDePlum · 26/07/2012 19:56

where i grew up

Northernlurker · 26/07/2012 19:56

It's 8pm! Of course yanbu. Children need feeding - he doesn't need to be told that, it should be obvious to him!

ErikNorseman · 26/07/2012 19:57

YAnbu! What a fool.

My kids would have eaten their Dad by around 6pm

JarethTheGoblinKing · 26/07/2012 19:59

Saying that, I forgot to feed DS the other day. It was late, was about to start bedtime and he asked 'but what about tea?' Blush

Cluffyfunt · 26/07/2012 19:59

Your DH and MIL are wallys!

Loonytoonie · 26/07/2012 20:00

plank. plonker. Liking these a lot.
Eejit had the cheek to sound surprised when I mentioned it, and dare I say it, he almost, almost said (I'm sure of it) "I thought you were going to make dinner when we all got home". Knowing him as I do, I'd bet my last quid it was on the tip of his tongue.

I've been glued to the pan for about 2 hours solid this afternoon. Like I really want to start chopping and dicing now.... Angry

Worra Grin

MIL has a massive bed of wild strawberries in her garden. I bet the DC have been foraging away this afternoon while DH has been glued to the Olympics no doubt

Yanbu what an idiot. Did he eat anything himself or did he stay hungry? Why couldn't the mil feed them? What is wrong with people?!

HecateHarshPants · 26/07/2012 20:02

How old are they? Any child that can talk is not going to stay silent on the matter of food Grin if they were hungry, he would surely have been treated to dad dad dad dad dad I'm huuuuuuuuungry

or at least lots of general whinging and bad temperedness.

Of course, if they are teeny tiny and not yet talking, then obviously they can't do that. But they would have cried or something, wouldn't they?

Like worra's, mine would have chewed their dad's face off like a pair of rabid dogs if they'd missed a meal!

HecateHarshPants · 26/07/2012 20:03

x-post. there you go. They'll be stuffed full of strawberries.

Loonytoonie · 26/07/2012 20:06

Eldest is 7 and is built like a pencil with a non-existent appetite. She's stock up on a ridiculously healthy breakfast too healthy for me - and last the entire day if I didn't keep an eye on her.

Youngest is 4 and a greedy article. Am half-wishing that he's made DH's life HELL the entire afternoon.

Poor things. If I found out that DH has been helping himself to his Mum's scones/biscuits/fruitcake without feeding his own children, I shall leave the bastard.

My dh does this all the time. He only makes food when he's hungry. When he does cook for them it takes hours! Even sausage & chips! I normally have emergency meals in the freezer. I think he's just so tired. We've had many rows about it. Its not that he doesn't care just doesn't process which is no excuse I know!

Sparks1 · 26/07/2012 20:07

And it could be argued you should have known to procreate with someone with a semblance of common sense....

Loonytoonie · 26/07/2012 20:08

Hecate, but these strawberries are tiny - they must be dwarf berries or something - or at least magical berries to feed the fairies in the garden I still believe

Like worra's, mine would have chewed their dad's face off like a pair of rabid dogs if they'd missed a meal! Grin

Seriously, wish they'd come home now.

I'm so surprised the younger one didn't ask where their tea was Grin

Love this Grin

Could be a stock answer to a lot of threads along this vein on here.

Sparks1, fairpoint. I married a bloody HeadTeacher though!

Gah!

HecateHarshPants · 26/07/2012 20:10

A child that is hungry will say that they are hungry. Or otherwise communicate it.

I bet they've all been troughing on your mother in law's scones and biscuits and are high on sugar and will be bouncing off the walls tonight Grin

Loonytoonie · 26/07/2012 20:12

Think I'll lock myself in the loo with my phone, if that's the case.
