It was my GM name.

Do you like/dislike the name?

Do you think she will like her name when she's 16?

Its a grandma name, you might think it cute on a newborn, but I don't think a teenager would like it.

OK I'm going out on a limb here.

It's awful.

Dotty means daft - why would anyone want to be called that?

Dory/Dorie - just vile - sounds like Dreary.

And Dorothy - no, OP. There's a reason why it's not popular - it's really awful. Along the lines of Doris. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

NadiaWadia · 26/07/2012 03:07

Not at all. Its a pretty name.

I find it Much nicer than say Florence or Grace which are so popular these days, yet 25 years ago nobody would have dreamed of caling their daughter names like this, and Ruby, Lilly etc, they would have been thought of as 'old lady' names.

The main association of Dorothy for me is with 'The Wizard of Oz'.

I love it Smile

It was my mum's name, she was Dottie to her siblings, and Auntie Dot to my many cousins!

carycach · 26/07/2012 11:09

I'm Dorothy. So on those grounds alone I'll say it's a fab name!! Wink

TroublesomeEx · 26/07/2012 13:35

My friend's 4 year old is a Dorothy. She gets called 'Dotty' and I think it's lovely!

seeker · 26/07/2012 13:45

And her classmates would all be "friends of Dorothy! "

I think it's a lovely name- but had you thought about Dorothea? Then she could possibly be Thea as well.

Tallalime · 26/07/2012 13:48

I really like it, one of my best friends at primary was a Dorothy 'Dot' for short.

There are some about but it's not one of the more common names, which makes me like it more.

quoteunquote · 26/07/2012 13:50

OP, we know a couple of Dorothy, all the older names are making comebacks in this area,

In DD's year at school the reregister sounds like something out of the 1930s,boys as well as girls, it's lovely and they all wear their names beautifully, we've got the lot here.

I think it a really lovely name.

AnaIsAlwaysShocked · 26/07/2012 15:28

My DD2 is Dorothy, NN Dot or Dotty. People often comment positively about her name, everyone except MIL love it.

It really suits her, she is a wise old woman in a 3 year olds body. She has an old fashioned look about her aswell.

Ithinkitsjustme · 26/07/2012 15:32

It's not a name that I would choose for my little one, but then things would get very confusing if we all used the same name wouldn't it? As long as you like it and you have conidered things like shortened versions and how it goes with your surname and initials (same as any other name) then go for it - must admit that I like the name Thea Grin
