It was my GM name.

Do you like/dislike the name?

I like it.

AllYoursBabooshka · 25/07/2012 21:07

It's lovely. :)

TCOB · 25/07/2012 21:10

YANBU - it's a lovely name Smile. But then the great thing about names is that if YOU like it, you cannot ever be unreasonable!

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/07/2012 21:19

I think it's a lovely name .
I had a dear friend at school named Dorothea ( her Mum was German ) who was forever known as Dotty .

Love it!

marshmallowpies · 25/07/2012 21:25

Dottie and Dorrie are great nn and I love Dorothy!

I also think Dorothea is a lovely name, but more 'serious' - Dorothy feels like a fun, lively name.

SoleSource · 25/07/2012 21:26

Dorothy is not in the top 100 baby names. Do you like the name Poppy @ Poppy?

OP posts:
MyDogShitsMoney · 25/07/2012 21:33

Love it!

It was always my top choice for if DS has been a girl. It's just classically pretty to me.

It's my Nanna's name and never once in her life has anyone shortened it. Until DNiece came along that is.

She's now "Nanna Dotty" Grin

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/07/2012 21:33

Poppy
No
It's awful ( unless born on November 11th )

OhDearNigel · 25/07/2012 21:33

one of my friends has a Dorothy - aka Dot or Dotty

Mintyy · 25/07/2012 21:35

There is a topic for discussing baby names y'know.

Aybu about what??

SoleSource · 25/07/2012 21:40

So many ways to shorten. Lovely names.

NoComet · 25/07/2012 21:44

Not unreasonable at all, DD1 is named after my fiesty great aunt.
I decided on
Her name when I was 11, didn't know any young people called her name. Now there are millions.

I suspect there may be quite a lot of Dorothy's one day too, it's fun.

MrsRogerSterling · 25/07/2012 21:46

Lovely. I know 3 Dorothy's, all grown up's. One is known As Dot, another is Do, and the other is Vicky (she uses her middle name as she doesn't like Dorothy) Grin

Mintyy · 25/07/2012 21:50

I will add that I think yabu if you are hoping for a slightly unusual, quirky name.

This is because I would have called hypothetical dc 3 Dorothy if she had been a girl (or Daphne) but my dc 1 and 2 have the most common names of all atm. And they were unusual and quirky when I chose them.

jubilee10 · 25/07/2012 21:50

No, I don't like it at all.

SoleSource · 25/07/2012 21:54

Just wanted to honour my GM. I love th name Renna also

OP posts:
freelancescientist · 25/07/2012 21:57

I've used it as a middle name as DH vetoed it for DD. Shame - she'd have suited it I think. It is my grandma's name and was also the name of my FILs sister who died as a child.
I also liked Theodora as an alternative, with Thea as a nn.

lovebunny · 25/07/2012 22:04

go for it. dorothy. dot. dotty. dor, dora...
dorothy.

issey6cats · 25/07/2012 22:08

lovely name it was my moms name and only one person ever called her dolly my godmother who had been her friend for over 50 years

RozziRaspberry · 25/07/2012 22:11

My middle name is Dorothy, all 3 of my dchildren find it a funny name (as in haha funny) and I personally don't like it but then that could be because it is a middle name and can't be shortened like a first name.

COCKadoodledooo · 25/07/2012 22:26

I love it. Was on our list with nn Dolly, not quite so keen on Dotty.

AlwaysHoldingOnToStars · 25/07/2012 22:29

I like it and I love Dotty or Dorrie as nn.

MushroomSoup · 25/07/2012 23:38

Love it!
